So I'm actually going to talk about video games again!
I've managed to stick to playing only one game recently with just a few one off sessions with other games and trials. Since I don't have a variety of games to talk about per se I'm going to pretty up this Gaming Landscape entry so it's interesting.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
I'm having a love-hate relationship with this game. Essentially, I liked the first three missions in this game and I didn't like the last three I've gone through. I particularly hate the fifth mission. To elaborate further, the reason I don't like these three missions is because they're in the dark, meaning I have to use night vision and the night vision in this game hurts my eyes. However, the fifth mission drops you on the ground with no support and for no real reason. So I'm sneaking around to progress forward, which isn't stealth because I still need to kill everyone I come across, and to add to the frustration, enemies can see and shoot you even when I can't. And I have fucking night vision. What kills me is this is for no real reason. The mission starts with you gunning enemies down from a helicopter. Everything I do when I get on the ground is in the wide open. Why can't I just gun this stuff down from the helicopter? Even if I do need to do if from the ground, why don't I have my troops? Even if I have to do this by myself, why can the enemy see me through the dark when I can't? At the end of the mission, why is there a fucking helicopter chasing me out of the blue? I'm playing the sixth mission now and although its better, having my troops and all, I still need to use night vision and its pretty monotonous. I'm basically playing this game in small spurts now and I'm not having as good of a time as I was previously. I may stop playing if the next mission doesn't get better.
Other Titles
Sometimes while going through GRAW, I played other games real quickly in an attempt to break up what I was doing. I played a bit of 'Splosion Man, the Alex Kidd & Co. Sega Vintage Collection, and a few others but I've also have been trying trials on my 360. That's another thing. I've been focusing on my 360 recently. Anyways, I tried a few board game titles, specifically Catan and Carcassonne, and they're decent interpretations. However, I was very pleased with two titles I tried. The first one was Rocket Knight. I did not know that they had done a sequel to the awesome Genesis title. I know there was a SNES title and a sequel but lets focus on the first game on the Genesis. That game was and is the definition of a lost gem and was the last title I thought I'd find a modern title for. The game is a bit slow but from what I played it was enjoyably faithful to the original game. Secondly, I tried Comic Jumper. I adore Twisted Pixel's two 'Splosion Man titles but this is just bat shit crazy! The controls are admittedly jarring but this game is so charming, so crazy, so bursting with personality, you can't help but fall in love with this game. Add this to another Arcade title I need to buy, like, yesterday.
Secondary / Replacement Game
I'm going to be playing a couple of games soon for PixlBit so I'll probably have my hands full with that and GRAW but with me having less and less fun with it, I'm considering playing another game either at the same time as GRAW or as a replacement if I stop playing it. So I'm looking at my backlog and I decided to play one of three games:
- 'Splosion Man
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution
- Saints Row 2
I'm halfway through 'Splosion Man but I've never sat down and focused on the game. This is a result of me playing a level or two every now and again. I have all of the cakes so far FYI and I'm on level 2-11 I believe. I bought and started Deus Ex: Human Revolution earlier this year but kinda cast it aside after the first boss fight and the game's switch from Detroit to Tokyo. I fell out of the experience and the boss fight was really jarring compared to the rest of the game. However, I've been thinking of giving it another try and see what else that game has to offer. Saints Row 2, I've had for a while now and I actually have it on both the Xbox 360 and the PC but haven't played either. I loved the first Saints Row and completed it 100% so I'm not sure why I haven't dived into this game yet. I have played the first 10 minutes or so of the game but that's it. So maybe now's the time to actually play it. Let me know what you're choices are and I'll make a decision based on your suggestions.
That's what I've been playing recently! How about you? Have you been playing newer games than me? How about a big RPG you haven't completed? Comment below and let me know your Gaming Landscape.
