Heard about this news story last week. The US Navy has a new weapon called LaWS,short for laser weapon system. It will be installed on the USS Ponce this year. The Ponce is an amphibious transport docking ship that's part of the 5th fleet. It should be operational and deployed by summer of 2014. It will be used in the Persian Gulf at first.
This thing looks incredible. Never thought that laser weaponry would become reality so soon. The main purpose of the system is to shoot down drones. As well as take out small craft commonly known as "fast boats". You know,the crap that Iran considers to be a Navy! The kind that were blown out of the water frequently during operations in the Gulf War. Eventually the system will be used to shoot down incoming missiles the same way a phalanx gun does now with 50 calibur shells. In ten years it might be able to bore a hole in the hull of enemy ships.
Looks even scarier from the front! I think that's the point. They want Iran to fear this thing. Will it work? Who knows.....but I just have one question. If they can build this then why,oh why can't they have sharks with fricken lasers on their heads roaming the seas? Now that would put the fear of God in enemy combatants!
Don't give them a warning! Just let them be surprised by the searing heat of a laser beam slicing through their hearts!
Is it so much to ask? Dr. Evil doesn't think so. It's the perfect weapon for the future!

Alice Cooper is balls to the wall brilliant! I'm surprised by the recent naval lasers too but as you've already mentioned, it's neat we've gotten this far! I always saw "laser weapons" as limited to sci-fi movies until now. (Though yes,medical lasers have been around awhile.)
Lastly I second sharks with laser beams on their heads! Heck, put them on dolphins too!
When I was in the Navy I was always astonished at how wimpy weapons systems were on the ships of other navies. We dominate the seas now,have for quite some time. Lasers are the way of the future I guess. Nice to know the US is leading the pack on that technology.
Dude, we need amphibious laser-headed sharks! That way they can chase the bad guys all the way to land and then just hop up on shore and keep going. The world wouldn't stand a chance

Perhaps honey badgers with lasers on their heads? They already don't give a crap,so they would take the land war to a whole new level! Land sharks would be cool though. They should work on that idea.

Well, if it's ten years from now that it'll be able to bore a hole in whatever, they already have that prototype somehwere I bet, as Homelessrook is alluding to. lol
So maybe your sharks are a reality, but they're not public knowledge yet.
That's some scary stuff when you think about how accurate lasers are. It certainly looks like a fearsome weapon! This blog was like something out of an old James Bond movie lol.

There are some crazy weapons being made. Sound, heat, and now lazers. I wonder what other stuff we have in the works that are top secret
Laser Sharks! If you equipped one on a Land shark, now that would be awesome!
