Games Beaten

-Metroid: Samus Returns

This Metroid II remake is a welcome return to form for the series. Despite my preference for sprites, I must admit it looks great (the world is gorgeous), especially with the 3D on. The original songs of the OST disappoint but there are some remixed favorites. The game is very linear through a series of big open areas; there's no reason to go back except to hunt for upgrades. That breaks the Metroid feel some. But it controls well and is fun and has a great endgame.

Games Bought

My one purchase in October was Raiden V: Director's Cut (PS4)—more on that later. PS+ had some big hitters last month. Headlining was Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4), thus completing completing the main series for me (I should probably get to playing those). Fitting for the season was The Amnesia Collection (PS4), which collects three games with the subtitles The Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs, and Justine. Rounding things out was a PS4/Vita puzzler called Hue and some shmup action with Sky Force Anniversary (PS4/PS3/Vita).

-Raiden V: Director's Cut (PS4)

This shmup is so much fun. I haven't gotten so sucked into a game like this in a long time. It's a very player-friendly game, too, so the trophies really help give it some legs.

And it has local co-op!

-F.E.A.R. (360)

I was playing this game for Halloween and it's spilled over into November. I've got two more chapters to go, I think. I do wish less time was spent in shootouts with military mooks and more time was spent on the psychological horror.

-Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (DS)

I'm back at this game now that I'm done with Samus Returns, and I'm definitely in the back end of the game. That lord of the underworld better watch out!

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

Things have slowed down in Destiny but the first expansion comes out next month and our group is going to try the raid again later this week. We'll get it this time for sure!

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

My trophy hunt has slowed because I've been pretty busy these last couple weeks but progress continues to be made. Got a trophy last night. Shooting to finish the character episodes soon.

-Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)

This game went on the back burner at the end of the month for F.E.A.R. but I'm looking forward to getting back to it. Yakuza is just such an enjoyable game to play.

I like that screenshot for Raiden V. I gotta play a shmup again sometime.

I wanted to encourage you to get the import Xbox One version of Raiden V but I just looked it up on Amazon and it's really expensive Surprised You should definitely get your shmup on though. There's no shortage of games to play.

Yea, I'll have to work one into the playlist somehow.

I beat Metroid: Samus Returns recently, too!  I prefer sprites as well, but overall I really enjoyed the game.  Even more than Mario Odyssey!

What? WHAT?? This seems like a crazy thing you to say, Cary. Odyssey not click with you? (I can't wait to play Odyssey.)

I liked Odyssey, but there are many other Nintendo franchises I like better than Mario.  Like Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Animal Crossing, all better than Mario.  I'm not as big of a Mario fan as people think I am.

I really need to buy a Yakuza game.

I'm still torn between Kiwami (cheaper) and Zero (already invested in).
