To those who know me they know I am a big fan of the XBox brand. I do love my Nintendo or Sony consoles, but simply prefer the XBox brand. As much of a fan as I am of the XBox brand however, I cannot deny E3 of 2013 was a disaster for Microsoft and its fans everywhere. It even overshadowed Sony's disastrous PS3 E3 debut. Still as bad as it was, that mess was the best thing that could possibly happen to fans. The original they showed off was about as anti consumer as a company can get in the gaming industry. However with the flood of negative feedback Microsoft got they did something unheard of..... they started listening to what fans wanted. We got everything from backwards compatibility to various requested dashboard additions.
Now, the system is not without issues. Currently Microsoft has been slacking in the AAA exclusives department. Kind of a change from the early days of this console generation when PS4 was the one lacking in this area. Personally this does not bother me as I am more then happy with lower key titles such as the newly released Super Lucky's Tale, and Zoo Tycoon Ultimate Animals Collection. Big names never means a good game. On the plus side, we have backwards compatibility which adds over 300 more games to the systems library. Its a far better thing then what Sony gives players in this area. If you own a PS4 and want to play your old games, then you have 2 choices. First is subscribe to their horrible, laggy streaming service PSNow, or buy their PS2 releases from between $10-15 each.
My second big issue with the system is the Kinect. I loved the 360 Kinect, I had a ton of fun playing everything from Kinects Adventures, and Kinect Sports, to The Wreckateer, and The Gunstringer. At first I was excited about the Kinect 2.0. However it quickly became obvious this would receive little support as Microsoft tried to market it for things like voice commands rather then games. Shockingly they just released two new Kinect supported 360 Remasters at a $30 price point with Disneyland Adventures, and Rush. The may be more kid themed games, but that doesn't stop them from both being a lot of fun. Best of all they've added control pad support for those not using a Kinect.
Next up is the XBox One X. I got mine last week and so far I am extremely impressed. I own a PS4 Pro as well, but that system seems like a minor upgrade compared to this. Not only do the enhanced game look amazing, but even those not enhanced look better as well. Titles like the original Star Wars Battlefront, and Doom which looked better on the base PS4 over the regular XBox One, now look vastly superior on the X despite running in lower native resolution. I'm not really sure how they do it, but I don't care because they look so good. The boost mode on PS4 Pro is a bad joke compared to what the X can do to non-enhanced games. And unlike the PS4 Pro, Microsoft seems to be promoting this system heavily. When the Pro hit, it was like Sony didn't even care. I couldn't even find a devoted section to it on the Playstation store until a few months ago.
Finally I snapped a pic of my physical XBox One collection last week. Since then I've added Assetta Corso, and Battleborn which I got off Best Buy and cost me about $2.25 or so after some Reward Zone.I also have Battlefront 2 coming this week which my dad pre-ordered me as an early Christmas gift.....
That is one solid X1 collection. It's good to see someone who enjoys games regardless of platform. I like XBox but I would be in the Playstation Camp, but both provide a ton of quality games.
As for the Kinect I never really got into it. I tried it but it wasn't my thing, and I tried the Sony version on the PS2 and PS3 but it didn't work as well as I thought.
When the 360 was big, that was my favorite console of that generation. I liked it even better than the Wii. There's just not enough games on the Xbox One that interest me enough to warrant a purchase.
I am so beyond happy with the X. I was expecting a slight bump in visuals, not how amazing Shadow of War and Diablo 3 would look. And the faster load times are a huge benefit that actually makes my PS4 seem ponderously slow now.
That's a pretty happy collection there. I'd like to trade up to an X. It'd be a tough choice between that and a Switch this black friday, but I'll probably be doing neither.
If I had a 4KTV, I'd love an XBOX ONE X. It's just too bad purchasing that all at once would be WAY too heavy a pricetag for me.
In the meantime, I have to admit Xbox One does BC and certain functional things way better than PS4, but I'm just so much more drawn to the exclusive that exist on PS4.
However, I've only ever owned a 360 controller (for Steam games), but never a Microsoft console. It's all Nintendo for me, my brother's Sony consoles and then PS4. I kind of want an original XBOX though.
4K TV prices have shot down a lot over the past year. I personally feel the XBox One does most things better then PS4 as far as features go. However the screenshot and video capture isn't as good. Its a lot easier to access on PS4, and uploading to Facebook is easier. Other then that the store needs an option for a cart.
I do want an Xbox One X, but I don't have a 4k tv yet, so I have to take care of that first.
It makes everything look better, but yeah a 4K TV really makes it special.
I too am a bigger fan of the Xbox brand, and as such, my Xbox One collection is far greater than my PS4 collection. But your collection dwarfes mine. I have probably less than a third the games you have.
I actually have more physical PS4 releases then XBox One. After I got a PS4 Pro kind of went heavy on that trying to get supported games. Now with the X that is changing.
