I'll have my Game of the Year 2017 blog up sometime around the end of January.

The Top 5 Games I Played In 2017
I'm doing things a little different this year. Rather than simply rank the top games that came out this year, I'm ranking every game that I played this year for the first time. To be honest, most of the best games I played this year were rereleases, so it would be a bit unwise to rank 2017's best games (especially when I didn't play a lot of them). I arguably played more games this year than any other year, so there is some stiff competition, if I do say so myself.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided
Fate/Extella
Fate/Grand Order
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

The Top 5 Games I Played In 2017
5. The Last Guardian
I've already said The Last Guardian was a frustrating playthrough for me. Regardless, the experience was instantly memorable after finishing the game. About nine months after finishing it, the experience still lingers. Much like Shadow of the Colossus before it, the game is better than the sum of its parts and in my opinion, truly elevates gaming as a medium.
4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Master Quest
Though I played Ocarina for the first time well over a decade ago, this year marks the first time I played the "Master Quest" version. And believe me when I say that it is a different game in itself, even with though it has the exact same gameplay. The maps are inverted and the puzzles are significantly harder in this version. Now I want to buy a Switch so I can play more Zelda...
3. Phantom Dust
I've been wanting to get this game since it was first released over ten years ago. Surprisingly, it did not disappoint. This arena-combat game with destructible environments was everything I wanted it to be and more. The campaign is lengthy, and loads of optional missions on top of that. I can't believe this game was free! I would have gladly paid money for it. Hopefully, someday, Microsoft greenlights a sequel from the original Japanese development team.
2. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2
It's a Mega Man collection, only easier! Where this game and the previous one really shines though is the challenge mode. I had no idea Mega Man segmented into little bit-sized chunks would be so entertaining. I even got a few of the first places in the leaderboard, because I could not stop playing this for quite a while!
1. Mega Man Legacy Collection
2017 really has been the year of Mega Man for me. The Blue Bomber's 30th anniversary for me not only had two amazing collections, but also another one announced and Mega Man 11 was revealed. Thanks to save-states, I was finally able to finish all original Mega Man games. Because this collection one has six games instead of four like the second collection, this first collection is without question, the most fun I had gaming this year.
Bonus: My Favorite Movie of the Year: Dunkirk
Runner up: Blade Runner 2049
