I got a Switch!!!!

I own a Switch now! Christmas was very good this year! I got Zelda to go with it. I’m still very early into the game and I feel like it’s so tremendously huge that a journal-like review with multiple entries would be the only appropriate way for me to offer proper impressions. So I might start a new blog series about Zelda.

Skyward Sword left such a bad aftertaste that it made me want Zelda to just go away for a good long while. Breath of the Wild, so far, feels more like Wind Waker, but with a lot of grass instead of ocean. I like that it borrows elements from games like the Witcher, bonfires for resting and elixir making, and even a cooking mini-game to make all kinds of meals for boosting abilities like stamina, health and such just like in another of my favorite game series Atelier with it’s magic alchemy pot. Don’t know if I can bake new weapons or armor like in Atelier yet, but we’ll see.

Zelda has made me forget about a lot of other things too-- like the real world. I’m still leveling in Warframe and I’ve got better weapons now so it’s pretty fun. I also really enjoyed MONSTER HUNTER WORLD beta and I’m glad that the game still mainly plays the exact same as the portables except with much better graphics and absence of load times between map segments. I am probably going to make a full game purchase on release in January. MH is my kind of thing!

All right. That is all for now. I’m kind of bummed that I didn’t get any new games that were released this year, so I’ll have to scrape up and save to get them on sale next year. For now I’m just dicking around Breath of the Wild on the tablet which I honestly can’t praise enough. Playing a console game off-screen with proper controls and decent screen is just MAGICAL!!!!!!! Switch deserves all the praise it gets. It’s fantastic. Can’t wait for Bayonetta 3 and 1&2 next year! Bring on more games Nintendo dammit!!!!

Who else has a Switch and what are some games I need from eShop? They better bring back Miiverse or else!

I want to play Golf Story. Don't have a Switch yet though.

I just heard Giant Bomb mention it on their GOTY podcast and said it wasn't that good. The golfing part anyway, which there is a lot of.

Ah well, great idea though. Would like to try it anyway.

Sorry for being negative. I need to stop doing that from now on. Yeah, Golf Story sounds great. I want to try it too. I think with GiantBomb they just play so many games constantly that something like Golf Story is very easily discarded as an afterthought. I'd love a retro style game on the switch screen.

Octopath looks amazing!

I really want to play Thimbleweek Park. It's on everything. By Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame.

I had some problems with Breath of the Wild, but I still think it's a very good game.  Better than Mario Odyssey even.  My favorite thing to do was cook meals for Link and make him eat them.  By the time he rescued Zelda, he should be as big as a house!

Cooking is my favorite part too! I get off my horse and run after frogs and birds and go picking mushrooms, herbs, peppers and salt for my meals. Combining weird things to make new weird things is my favorite part of Atelier games and Dragons Dogma.

There are so many good games on the eshop.  Wonder By was great.  I had fun with Butcher.  Kamiko was a fun distraction.  Gonner is a tough as nails rogue-like thing.  I need to put more time into Mighty Gunvolt Burst.

The tablet screen is gorgeous and light. I really want Binding of Isaac and eventually classic NES/SNES games.

Hopefully they'll work out retro games by then. I want gba and retro nes games on this thing ASAP.

Congrats man. I enjoy. It's one of my favorite systems ever for sure, even at this early date.

What do you have on there besides Zelda? I want Skyrim and Doom next. Im all in with full console games on this thing!

I have most of the staples, but there's a sale on now and I just bought Oxen Free and plan to buy Rocket League and Shovel Knight at  last (I'm late).  Rabbids is only $40 too so I might grab that.

I want to play Rabbids eventually. Since it's not a 1st party game, maybe it will go down in price mid 2018.

I would reccomend from the eShop: Steamworld Dig 2 is a metroidvania with mining elements; Shovel Knight is a good platformer if you haven't played that one yet; Axiom Verge is a thrilling sci-fi punk metroidvania game; World of Goo is a cool puzzle/problem solving game; Fast RMX if you're into the F-Zero/Wipeout type of racers.

Most of those games are out already on several platforms, and Steamworld Dig 2 being the only real new game. You can probably check on Steam how most of the games on the eShop fair (games not published by Nintendo of course).

Thanks! I'll check these out. Have you seen that new SNES Zelda-like game on Switch?

Blossom Tales? Yeah. It looks great. I might get it on Steam because it's cheaper.

I'd love a Switch, but I think I could go years without playing everything in the Ps4 library, so I'm good for now.

Speaking of, I guess Horizon: Zero Dawn is kind of like PS4's BotW? I finally got back into it, and it has some irritating flaws, but I'm enjoying it. BotW's art style looks amazing though and I'd love to play Super Mario Odyssey.

I'm with you waiting on the switch. I got Switch as a surprise gift. Otherwise I would have been happy with PS4 games. After playing it for a week, I really want there to be more games on it already. I don't think it's going to be able to keep up with all the new releases on PS4Pro and New XBox. I've already seen people angry that Monster Hunter World cannot be ported to Switch because of complexity and it's already running slow on regular PS4.

Lucky! I was checking out the Switch in Target a few weeks ago. Not in my budget these days, unfortunately.

Get Hollow Knight asap. You'll love it. It's the real successor to Dark Souls, and one of my all time fav metroidvania games. I played it on Steam, but think it would be magical on Switch.

Don't have a Switch yet. We ordered one a while back but had to cancel the order for money reasons. Hoping to get one soon though. My friend has one and some that I've tried or watched them play that are really great are:

Golf Story - an RPG about golfing. Much better than it sounds.

Steamworld Dig 2 - Much, MUCH better than the original. More Metroidvania-esque than the original, much weirder, and has a pretty decent story as well.

Fast RMX. I played the original version on Wii-U, and it was a great F-Zero style game. I here The Switch version is even better.

I played Hollow Knight on PC. I want to try new things exclusive to Switch before I re-buy games I already played. I like that they attempted to update the games for Switch at least.

I really liked Blaster Master demo and Mighty Gunvolt Burst demo, which is like MegaMan.

Firstly, I've been away for a while, so what were your opinions about Hollow Knight.

Apart from Steamworld Dig 2, the other 2 are exclusives. Haven't played either of those games, so if you get them let me know what you think!

I loved Hollow Knight. I don't like the way it was trashed by Giantbomb because they think it looks like a flash game. Atmosphere is dark and awesome.

The other two I mentioned I only played the demos. They both look like retro games, but new? They feel and play like old games anyway. Blaster Master might be too minimalist, like it actually feels like an NES game. While Gunvolt adds a combo system when you attack with your gun arm at close range.

Thats a great Christmas right there, your in for a lot of fun with the Switch. I been enjoying Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Skyrim*rerelease, I know*, Night of Azura 2, and BOTW on occasion. I like BOTW and I have actually gotten into it this time around but it took a lot for me to get there. Im really hoping the next game has little more direction to  it and the dungeons come back. Im not a shrine fan. A lot of games I would have mentioned people beat me to the punch on here.

I loved Nights of Azure 1. I can't wait to get to the sequel. I was really surprised there was girl-girl relationship as a main story. Have no idea if the sequel is related at all. I've ranted on another blog about how I miss having mystery about accessing dungeons in BotW like in previous games. So far you just do a meta story thing and then just get dropped in front of the dungeon. Also, most shrines are easily viewable and accessible, but I would have like to have worked to find them using all my special abilities or sidequests maybe. Hopefully they'll just use the same engine but with more traditional Zelda stuff in sequels. You should try "Blossom Tales" if you liked Link to the past or Links Awakening. Maybe when it's on sale on steam or something. It's like classic 2D Zelda but girl hero instead of Link.

I think I saw Blossoms Tales on the Eshop the other day. I might get it on the Switch when I have some spare money. It looks like a lot of fun and I did enjoy what I played of Links awakening. I need to sit down and go through the whole game.

I'm only a couple of dungeons in. It plays exactly like gameboy Zelda. It looks like GBColor zelda. There are lots of puzzle rooms in dungeons if you miss those like me. However, I tend to be cautious because indie games for some reason tend to be absurdly difficult for no reason. The balance I mean, isn't always perfected with these games. It might be fine, then all of a sudden a bad design idea that makes it frustrating and want to quit. I hit a couple of walls so far and got through, but I have issue with the design choices. The music is really good though.
