Well Happy 2018 Pixl Peeps! I was going to do a blog on Monday but I really didn’t play a lot of games to complain/love/talk about but I am here for the Quick Hits because I have some things to share, say, and other random items that will pop in my head that I’m trying to write down on digital paper.
Happy 2018!
New Year’s Eve was fun. I spent time with the peeps, ate good food and just like a party animal I watched the ball drop while sitting in bed browsing Twitter and listening to the neighborhood down the street recreate a battlefield with sounds of gunfire and fireworks. There is one house that seems to get all the crazy fireworks from Mexico (it’s the closest spot because fireworks that shoot into the sky are illegal here) bought some cool stuff to look at from a distance.
I watched the Rose Parade but I do wish there was a TV Station that didn’t have any commentary. There was a feed a couple of years ago but now not so much. I watch through HGTV but the people they had were not good (I’m trying to be nice).
That’s how I spent my beginning of 2018. There was more food and family and really you can’t go wrong with this setup.
The Former Phone/Current Music Player
I don’t know what happened but all of a sudden the face buttons stopped working, I scrolled from the top of the screen to turn on Bluetooth and that was working, and Google was no help. Why do people always reply to problem posts with “I don’t have this problem but…” responses? It’s useless. After restarting a couple of times I came to the conclusion that something happened to the micro SD card. I popped it out and sure enough the name got mangled but the music feature plays fine so it was time to reformat and since it is 2018 so I reset my music player back to factory settings. I had the phone reformat the card before I reset the phone and everything is working now, and surprise the wireless syncing of music to the phone is faster than before. I’m not adding any new apps other than the music apps I use, and a copy of 2048. No special launcher, no other games or social media apps, just the music, the one game, and a podcast and audiobook app.
While I am typing this I am sending 500 songs at a time to the music player. Hopefully I can finish the Ultimate Playlist from my iTunes by today. *I finished the 500 songs and started a new batch of 500 while editing the picture
Chris Goals of 2018
2018 is starting strong…well it should be considering I started in 2017 to get use to it.
Reading: In my read everyday I stopped watching TV before I go to sleep and I play my audiobook. Currently I am reading Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W Loweman. Most of the topics that are discussed I already knew but there are some details that leave you saying What The Hell textbooks? I am currently finishing CD 7 of 12.
In other things to read Amazon has a 6-month trial of the Washington Post for Prime Members. I figured why not, and if I like it, the price is $4/month, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the local small town newspaper and had a ton to read. The Washington Post has two apps, one is a digital setup of the newspaper, and the other is “print” edition which is setup like a newspaper. On my phone I use the digital format, and on my iPad I use the “print” format. The one thing I don’t like is that the devices don’t talk to each other so I have two separate saved articles list. One thing I like about this is that I can skip articles I don’t have interest in and read some interesting articles I would not normally see.
Saving: I started my 52 week challenge by pulling a $20 from my paycheck and using it as start-up money. I’m still following how much I am supposed to put away each week but if I can swing it every paycheck I will put away $20. That’s $20 less I can spend on video games/Hot Wheels/other randoms.
Randoms
I moved all my 2017 files off my laptop and onto the external storage. I thought about buying these 32GB USB Sticks from Walmart because they were blowing them out for $3 and using those as yearly sticks. I haven’t gotten around to it but my local store has a ton of them so there’s no rush. In my mini Media Drive that I always use I am currently sorting through the files on it. Organizing eBooks by author and soon placing them into genres. Same with comics, and with some Audiobooks and Audio Shows I need to import into iTunes, fix their tags, and then remove them from iTunes. I’m planning on buying a full size external hard drive for these files. Once all of this is finished I will shift to copying my current iTunes library, and placing it into that external hard drive. The random things I get myself into.
Pickups!
Surprise no games or toys! I did upgrade my old George Foreman grill from the original size model to this
Walmart advertised it for $50 so I went to the local store at 7am (when the normal folks are roaming around) and picked one up. In store it was $70 but I got the price match and now I have the monster size Foreman grill.
Alright Pixlbit that is a quick recap of the start of 2018. I am off to enjoy the day and maybe check out local stores to see who has any deals on external hard drives. Have a good weekend!
That’s all for now, more later!
