Starting off 2018 By Playing Some Games

So on Sunday I was roaming around Toys R Us before I had to do some grocery shopping and I found the Talos Principal Deluxe Edition, or whatever they call the one with extra stuff for $6 on the PS4. I thought about it, had it in my hand, and I was walking around the Nintendo section still holding this game but in the end I put it down. Why? Well I still have a ton of games I haven’t played and a handful I started but haven’t finished yet so why add to the mix? I put it down, and whoever picks it up, I hope you enjoy the game! This has been the mindset this year (and the final weeks of 2017) so I would just tackle whatever is in my Steam library, see if its worth playing, and decide if it should be installed (also the $6 I was going to use, I added it to my 52 Week Challenge). Also I played some games I’ve already been playing.

Disney Infinity 1.0 Incredibles Playset - Steam

01

I was one of the Day 1 folks who jumped on this franchise and if you remember that launch was horrible. The game was expensive, the figures were also expensive, the powerup discs were blind purchases (who wants multiple copies of Cinderella’s carriage?), and the worst thing for a launch game: the game was broken. You had to wait a couple of days for the PS3 version to be updated so it didn’t crash at the intro screen.

Well Fast Forward to Steam’s Winter Sale and not only is 1.0 on sale, but you get all three versions with all characters for $15. It was a no brainer for someone who stopped playing after 1.0. Anyways it was time to jump into this game one more time. I was wondering how the developers would tackle the toy portion of the game and there is a Virtual Toy Pad located in the start menu.

02

From here you can select the only figures that are available in this world. Remember unlike every other toy/video game only certain figures were allowed in a given playset during story mode. This setup maybe a little clunky but it works. The gameplay is still the same but I found the framerate still hasn’t been fixed from the console game, which is sad but the game plays fine.

03

The game looks good, and everything you remember from the console game is still here. I haven’t tried the toy box feature and I have to be honest I probably won’t play it. The toy box is a lot of fun with other people and the last time I tried it, it was with my younger cousins and we created some crazy setups and at one point made a Disney Call of Duty game with paintball guns. This is where the game really shines.

04

Now since I’m playing on PC there is one funky control problem that I found it was easier to use the keyboard/mouse combo than the controller and that was during the training section of the hidden base. It was impossible to do the dodge feature with a controller and somewhat easier with the keyboard/mouse combo. I got lucky and completed the section with the k/m but it was a pain.

I like Disney Infinity on PC, its fun, portable, and I can finally check out 2.0 and 3.0 without having to add to a collection of toys, but the game has it’s quirks, so be prepared to jump between controller and keyboard.

Grid II/Super Toy Cars - Steam

05

Still playing through Grid II and I just hit the point where I won the Asia Circuit and now in the storyline ESPN is going to air all the races. I have no idea how far I am from finishing this game but it is a lot more fun than Autosport because there is somewhat of a storyline that helps with the game instead of just full on racing.

06

Super Toy Cars is another racing game where you race in a toy environment. I went ahead and saved up all the gold coins to race with the fastest car in game in the middle group of races where I am dominating races unless there is a lot of turns and then I’m hitting walls left and right. I am probably going to have to buy an appropriate car for this section. I might have talked about this game before but if not, it’s basically like every other arcade toy racing game: after each race you earn coins you can use to upgrade the car, and buy newer faster cars.

Orange Moon - Steam

07

I found this game in my Steam library and most likely it was part of a bundle. I fired it up and well I’m not a fan. Orange Moon is a side scrolling game that is supposed to be a cross between a horror and a platform game. You land on this planet and your job is to explore the planet, fight bad guys, and find items in the ground that help you like fuel for your jet pack, grenades, and other other goodies. Chapters are split up into days, and while you’re exploring there is a “voice” that is talking you through sections. This alone, I’m thinking it sounds like a fun game but the controls are what bother me. The controls feel unresponsive and sluggish. I thought switching from controller to keyboard/mouse would help but it didn’t really improve. I want to like this game but after mistakenly shoot off a grenade while jumping and constantly getting taken out by random things, this might be a game that I might put on the back burner and give it a try at another time.

When I was walking around the Toys R Us and looking through the handhelds I started to think about buying another handheld. Because of this I really need to charge my 3DS XL and get back into playing the games I own on there because I really don’t want to talk myself into spending close to $500 for a Switch, some games, a case, and whatever else I may need.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. I ran into a funky problem yesterday where the battery to the truck is dead and the AAA guy is here. Have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

Talos Principal is by Croteam, the guys behind Serious Sam, if you can believe it. I hope they get back to Serious Sam. I want another zany shooter.

That's kind of cool having the figures virtually for the PC. It'd save me a lot of room.

ORANGE MOON sounds interesting, but I'll take your word that it isn't.
