2018 Most Anticipated

Off the top of my head:

Spider-Man: I'm especially excited for the Spiderman 2 swinging mechanics, along with the Spiderman 2 fighting mechanics that Arkham games polished and perfected. A bit mixed on villain and QTEs, but I'm also excited a studio I visited in 2014 (Insomniac) with a storied history is working on a standalone Spiderman game.

Dragon Ball FighterZ: I don't really care about DBZ, though what I've seen of the original Dragonball is funny, but I love Arc System Works and will be supporting their mainstream effort. If this gets bad reviews I'll buy GGXrd REV 2 instead, but I doubt that'll happen and I bet my friends will be playing FighterZ.

Shadow of the Colossus: This was THE game people lauded in the games-as-art argument in the PS2 era, and I never got to play it for myself. While I understood peoples' frustrations with TLG, I still loved that overall experience and am looking forward to a full-on remake of SotC with completely new graphics and modern (re: what any non-art-game probably wound have had at the time anyway if we're honest; let's not act like mainstream games could get away with TLG mechanics) controls as my first experience with it.

God of War: Again, I've never actually played this series, so I'll be jumping on the newest one without a number attached to it as my entry point.

So that's what I'm most excited for off the top of my head. I'll have to make another list of games I didn't think of later. Honestly though, I started budgeting again and there's still stuff from 2017, not to mention the Steam backlog I can't get to without a new laptop, so ... I'm cool with fewer games to want.

Edit: Red Dead Redemption 2! Never played the first Redemption and sometimes eyeball the Revolver game for PS2 on PS4, but these games look SO GOOD.

Amen on Red Dead. I loved the last game. I don't finish many games, but I finished that one without thinking about it. I just loved riding my horse around and looking at the sky. Lovely game.

I should play it some time, but it is only available on PS4 by way of PS now.

yeah that shit sucks. I'm more into Xbox's backwards compatibility.

Yeah I kind of want a One for that library.

If Insomniac's doing Spider-Man, I want a try at it. Last Spider-Man game I liked was Ultimate Spider-Man. Gotta play that one again.

Spider-Man I'm really excited for too for the same reasons as you. DBFZ I'm in the opposite boat, not familiar with the dev, but know they're competent and love DB so I'll be getting it. Shadow I won't say is the best game ever, but also won't argue anyone who claims it is. It doesn't just bank on its artistry or story, you can love it purely for gameplay.

God of War I played the old ones and liked 1, 3, and Ghost of Sparta. Others were meh. New one doesn't interest me beyond the eye candy (meaning I'll rent it). Just don't see a hook in the gameplay department, maybe I'm missing something. I know I'm in the minority, but I just felt RDR was alright. I'll check out 2 because a bunch of my issues with Rockstar games were fixed by giving GTA V competent controls, but also hoping they can deliver a stronger narrative since they put so much focus in that now. Only thought 4 and Vice City had strong ones, but 4 had a whole other huge can of worms.

The video for the new GoW looks really good. I'll be watching that one closely when it's released.

My most anticipated game this year is Dissidia NT. I had so much fun with the PSP games before.

From your list I am going to play God of War because I love that series. I'll try Red Dead because I liked the PS2 game, and never really played the PS3 game. Actually I should give the PS3 game a spin before jumping into the PS4 game.

I kinda of want to see what people say about the new Mario Tennis game. Heck I'm curious to see what comes out for the Switch to see if this is the year I make the jump and get one or hold off.
