BaD 2018: Goals For 2018: Clutter

For the final three days of BaD I thought I would focus on three goals for the rest of the year. I know I covered some on the Resolutions blog in December but I wanted to focus on three that I may or may not have covered, because once BaD is over, 2018 has 10 months left so why not get the most out of it. For today’s 2018 Goals I thought I would talk about Clutter both virtual and physical.

Like many folks I tend to hang on to a bunch of stuff because at some point I will use it, but in reality I won’t and I know this. While I was going through my hard drives I started cleaning out files I really don’t need and I saved some space but there can be more space saved if I really get into it. I want to clear out the second drive on my laptop which is home to my iTunes library, and some Steam games. Since I have already backed up my music onto an external I can remove some files from iTunes especially from albums that I really don’t listen to or some podcasts I’ve been saving. I can also uninstall games I really don’t play on Steam and eventually go back to them once I’ve finished with whatever random games I’ve been playing.

As for physical I really want to start going through my vinyl collection, ripping them, and anything I really don’t want or already have on CD I want to get rid of. I mean I like the format, but they take up so much room and to be honest I listen to most of my music on the computer/phone/music player that I really don’t need to have the actual record, but I would like to keep a handful of “must-haves.” This frees up space, and I’ll feel better having less clutter. I’m thinking about buying a nice (inexpensive) usb turntable to convert these albums, and enjoying them on the go.

Hobbies: I have a bag of random Lego pieces still in a bag that I’d like to sort and place in their respective containers, and maybe disassemble some sets. Hot Wheels don’t take up a lot of space but I would like to get a container for the loose cars, and my favorite hobby of them all, CD buying, I need to order more CD books. I tried the Amazon Basics books and I really like them but I think I mentioned this already, but I won’t get the big 400 book because I’d rather have the smaller books because I think the weight would eventually break the books.

I’m slowly tackling this a little each day and I think I’m making some good progress. Anyways that’s it for today’s Goals.

That’s all for now, more tomorrow!

My room used to be very cluttered and that's how I lived but in the past year or so, I can't take it anymore. Now I keep my room and desk pretty much clutter free, though there are zones I need to organize, like where I have too many books stacked up on shelves. Clutter free is definitely better.

Yeah I'm slowly getting to the point where I start letting go of stuff especially games. Its been easy with the PS4 especially since I have younger cousins who will jump at free games, but I need keep working at it.

My office and bedroom could stand to be de-cluttered, but my PS4 still only has 500GB and could honestly use a good TB or so HD add-on.

I should go and clean out my PS4's hard drive. I've been thinking about doing the same and upgrading to a bigger drive especially since drives are getting cheaper.

I used to collect music a lot. Since digital though, now it's all on a hard drive. I recyle all the vinyl I get and put cds into books. I hardly buy cds anymore though and I keep very few vinyl records. I have two at the moment: Pac-Man Fever (just for something gaming related) and a Christopher Parkening classical guitar album. That one is out of print and its song order is perfect. No CD compilation can compare with it.

I need to weed out the record collection. I replaced a couple of albums with CD versions and I know that bugs hard core music fans but I just like the CD format more than vinyl. I need to invest in a good record player and rip what I have, especially since I bought an external hard drive just for my audio files.
