It’s not midnight yet here in Southern California and to be honest I almost forgot about writing today’s Goals blog, BUT I do have a topic that I wanted to write about earlier today but I got sidetracked (like reading and responding to your blogs, sorry) but here we go. Today’s Goals blog is making some progress in my Backlog and how I think I can do it.
Let’s be real, everyone here has a backlog. Some have more on their list than others, but at the end of the day we all have that list of shame of games we say we are going to get to, start, finish, whatever, we have them. I figured when I shifted my focus on PC gaming over console gaming I could for the most part control how many games I would buy/play because well I didn’t have the library on the PC. Well instead I got caught up in all the various deals and bundles and here I am almost two years from when I started with an external hard drive full of games, a handful of games I beat but yet I don’t want to erase because there might be a time when I will get back to them, and of course the usual handful that I will always play. So what is my plan of attack? I started this maybe a year or two ago but never stuck to it, and that is play the games I want to actually play and enjoy, not play to get them off the list. Here me out: I buy a lot of bundles where I might want to play a couple of games and everything else is just filler/maybe hidden gem that I will by accident find on a rainy weekend. Instead of downloading everything and then wanting to play when I just installed I have a list of games I really want to play. Of those games if there is something that I am playing and it really doesn’t resonate with me, than I’ll stop and move on to the next thing.
I learned a lot from you folks while being here and on 1Up. I never thought about making a list of games I want to play, finding games I wouldn’t normally touch, and at some points sharing some information about how to get around a level, or find something I wouldn’t find right away. I think because of the things I’ve picked up it’s added to the enjoyment of the hobby we all share. Month number two is almost over and I still haven’t finished a game and that’s alright. I think I am close in one game, while I started another yesterday so I’ll be busy with those for awhile. I’m not worrying about a time line because I need to jump to game x soon, and I actually might go back to the Tomb Raider games right before the movie is released. Anyways my plan of attack is to have a list of games I want to play, don’t waste time on games I don’t care about, and most importantly enjoy what I’m playing.
That’s all for now, more tomorrow!
