BaD 2018: Goals For 2018: Staying Away From Social Media "Discussions"

Well we are here, the end of another BaD and I have to say it has been a lot of fun but I will be happy to get back to the normal posting routine. I have a lot of blogs to catch up on, and I’d like to get back to gaming at night instead of taking pictures, writing down my thoughts, and uploading them here. Anyways to end BaD 2018, today’s Goals is something I started for Lent but I might just keep for the rest of the year. For Lent I gave up commenting on Social Media. Now to be more specific I gave up on jumping into “discussions” and I use that term loosely. It seems like more and more people no longer want to have an actual discussion online, and instead they want people to agree with their point of view. When this doesn’t go their way they cry “Fake News”, “Troll”, “Libtard”,”Trumpette” and all the other tags. Things I like to point out that if little kids did this, they would be put on Time Out, but yet adults get a pass. Here’s a little background on why I gave up these discussions: On Facebook (oh these things always start with those two magic words) one of my friends posted their extreme slanted point of view. When I called them out on it I was met with the usual responses because there was no substance to their argument. It ended with my favorite line to make it sound like these people have better things to do “Well I am going outside and enjoying life” or something similar aka, I don’t know what to say.

After this exchange I realized that there is really no point to trying to have a different point of view because people are going to believe what they want regardless of what you say. I figured it was better for me to not reply, and just make use of the hide feature. Eventually I grew tired of the hate and vile that this person kept posting (for someone who’s outside they’re on their phone 24/7 sharing every single thing on the world wide web that seems to agree with their point of view) and finally I hit unfollow. My mood improved because I didn’t have to see this and I was a better person for it. I get people like to post their opinions on social media and I’m totally fine with it, hell I do the same on Twitter (sorry Twitter folks if I start annoying you, I’m trying to cut back on tweeting) but to constantly keep posting your opinion on the same subject over and over again is grating and becomes annoying.

So here I am, I’m avoiding all these “discussions” and I’m in a better mood for it. There’s so much negativity going on right now there’s no point in adding to it, and besides I’d rather read funny articles, stupid pet videos, and other fun things that use to populate my time line.

Alright Pixlpeeps, I have to say BaD has been fun, I’ll miss it, but I’m ready for it to end. Anyways that’s all for now, more later!

Really the only thing I post on Facebook are links to my game reviews.  I can't stand reading all the political stuff or people bragging about how much better their life is, etc.

Its fun to read what people are up to, where they are traveling to, etc, but yeah political stuff I'm over it.

I pretty much purged my timeline of news last year for the same reason. Apparently, there is a German word for someone you agree with, but think is such an asshole about it you don't like them anyway. It's a relevant word.

I don't even follow news sites on Facebook. I think on Twitter I follow some folks who I feel are somewhat honest about their point of view, but Facebook I just like seeing what friends and family are up to. Oh those crazy German words.

I'll admit I do enjoy arguing politics to a certain degree, but in the social media age it's over the top, what with all the usual insults and the odd threat of civil war here and there. For those who have scrubbed their timelines of stuff like that, good for them. I mostly keep up with my family and with 1UP alumni on social media. I actually deleted my Twitter accound and have no intention of making another account on Twitter. I think it's probably the worst non-pornographic site on the Internet, and there are a lot of porno sites that are more respectable than Twitter is, LOL.

I like a good debate, and at the end you might not agree with the person but you learn something. Now its just a pissing match between x and y on who's better. I like Twitter because it's short burts, that can be really funny, informative, and at times just silly.

I am with you 100% Chris. I try not to make political or religious posts on Facebook, but every once in a while I just can't help myself. And it always ends up a shitstorm of epic proportions. So I go back to pics of Beau and Kaylee and posts about my adventures with the mice.

You know I'm ok with folks posting political and religious stuff just not every day. I swear some folks make it their life. And yeah the shitstorm is real, and sometimes its fun to read. Sometimes.

I've really got time for only one site and this is it. I've got a Twitter and Facebook, but I'm not participating much at the moment.

I don't post a lot of Facebook, but I'm more active on Twitter with random TV Tweets, and sometimes Instagram. Facebook is more read to see what people are doing, and then I go about my day.

I totally understand, I actually have several relatives that I dont get their posts anymore for that excat reason. I have also gotten to point of just out right blocking people, probably extreme but Im just done with the negativity and the drama. I have enough issues with the inside of my head on some days that others bringing more to the table just trashes my mood completely.

It's amazing how people can somehow make that a part of their life where they always have to post. It's been a couple of weeks since I unfollowed a couple of folks and man the mood is a lot better on my feed. It's back to people posting pictures of whatever they see and talking about their kids.
