April Review Showers

Get ready, because I’m going to shower you all with game reviews I’ve written recently over at GamerDad.com!  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d really appreciate it.

Detective Pikachu amiibo

I got this game and the amiibo recently.  The game plays like Phoenix Wright for kids but there’s nothing wrong with that, and it’s of really high quality.  I wish they’d make more Pokémon games like this as I’m getting tired of the same old formula of the main games.  The amiibo for it is HUGE!  Like, about three times the size of a normal amiibo.  Detective Pikachu is large and in charge.  He’s Pika-Huge!  In other words, he’s a big boy!

Scribblenauts Showdown (PS4)

I’ve been lucky enough to be able to review every single Scribblenauts game released.  It’s been a few years since we last had a new one.  This one’s a multiplayer party game using the formula.  I’m surprised this one didn’t come out sooner, when these types of party games were a little more prevalent. But it’s still fun.  When I got this game, they also sent me the two hats that Maxwell and Lilly wear in the game, as well as stickers and other things.  It reminded me of the days when I got a lot more stuff when reviewing games.

The Legend of Zelda: Art and Artifacts (Book)

I got this a few months ago and finally got a chance to write about it.  It has art from all the Zelda games, from instruction booklets to promo material.  Makes a nice companion to the Hyrule Historia.

G.P. the GamerPuppet Unboxes the “King of Fighters XIV Burn to Fight Premium Edition (PS4)

If you read my last blog, you’ll know I recently got King of Fighter XIV.  I actually got the special edition, so here’s my puppet helper unboxing it.  The box was beat up, and I thought about complaining about it, but the game had been out for a while and I don’t think it would do any good to do that at this point in time.  At least the stuff inside was in decent condition.  Can you guess my favorite KOF character?

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse (Switch)

I’ve been a fan of the Shantae series ever since the first one on Game Boy Color (which I still have).  Pirate’s Curse is my second favorite in the series (the original is still my first).  I already had this game on Wii U, so when WayForward sent me a review code for the Switch version automatically, I thought, ‘cool, I can just cut and paste my review and repost it again.’  But it turns out I didn’t write a review of that game after all so I had to write one since I got a code for it.  Serves me right for trying to be lazy!

Octahedron (PS4)

This game taught me what an Octahedron is.  And who says video games aren’t educational?  You are a stick man who must jump up vertical shafts, and you can create blocks under you to help you bypass obstacles.  The graphics are really trippy and it gets really hard quick, too.  They put a background story into this game even though it’s totally unnecessary.  You can read the review if you want to find out what it is!

Bombslinger (Switch)

It’s basically Bomberman with a Wild West theme.  You’d think I’d like Bomberman since it’s about running around a maze chasing after things, which I normally adore.  But I’ve never been able to get into the Bomberman games for some reason.

American Girl World (iPad)

And finally is this interactive story book featuring characters from the American Girl doll toy line.  It’s all right I guess, but if it were me, I’d rather buy a little girl a real American Girl doll instead.

Conclusions and Updates

And that’s all for now!  I’d like to conclude by posting a few updates in my life.  For the past nearly two years, I’ve been working at a major hardware store chain.  I first started part time in garden, and then moved to full time in the hardware section.  But my full-time hours were from 3 pm to 12 pm, which got kind of old after a while.  So I’m moving to a different department so I can get better hours.  I don’t really want to move to plumbing, as I don’t know anything about it, but I didn’t know anything about hardware and I’m doing OK now, so I’m sure I can do plumbing, too, if I work hard at it.  My hours will be 10 am to 7 pm, which is MUCH better.  So please pray for me that my move to a new department will be smooth and easy.  And yeah you can make fun of me and call me Mario if you want to, although I’d prefer to be called Luigi.

Also, every year for the past five years, I’ve registered for a media pass to E3 and have been denied.  But I’m stubborn and a little stupid and never give up, so I registered for a press pass this year again, expecting the same results.  But to my surprise, I got accepted this year!  I wonder what changed?  Anyway, I may be going to E3 this year after all!

And that’s all for now!  I don’t have any ideas for upcoming blogs, so unless you want to wait for my next review blog, please send me suggestions and if I like them and aren’t too busy to write them, I may do that.  Thanks again for reading, and see you all later!  --Cary

so you really liked the detective pikachu game huh? High production value?  I admit I'm intrigued....

Oh yes, very high production value.  Graphics that look like a computer animated cartoon, plenty of voice acting, definitely a good game to get if you're a Pokemon fan.

I'm more a Luigi fan too.

That's great you are going to E3. My friend Mark is always saying he wishes he could go. I'd like to go to PAX East one of these days.

Well, my favorite Mario character is actually Toad, but Luigi is way better than Mario anyway.  Luigi just makes more sense as a plumber than Toad does.

My E3 trip planning is in the prelimary stages right now, so it's not a total for sure thing I'm going.  But I'm going to try my best to!

I'm definitely going to try!  I don't want to miss this opportunity!

I loved Luigi's Mansion and I like the Mario & Luigi games too. Also, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, the rpgs, mainly. Plus Luigi is funny.

Oh yeah, Luigi is definitely awesome.  Way better than Mario, anyway.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is such an underappreciated game.  The text in the game is some of the best writing I've read in a video game.

Thousand Year Door is so darn good. I want to go back and play it again.

I wish the newer Paper Mario games were that good.

Yeah, really. Paper Jam didn't really excite me that much.

And the sad thing is, Paper Jam was the better of the recent batch.  I actually finished that one, I never did beat Sticker Star or Color Splash.  They were that bad.

Wow that Pikachu is massive! I'd give that game a try because its a different take on the Pokemon Franchise. I can't remember which console I have Shante for but I liked the game and I should check it out on the Switch.

Congrats on E3. I think you have to go now Tongue Out, also congrats on the dept switch.

Yeah one thing I like about Detective Pikachu is the many different ways you interact with Pokemon.  You don't just battle all the time like in other games, so you get a unique take on the Pokemon world.

Yeah the Shantae games are great if you love 2-D platformers.

I'm definitely going to try to go to E3.  Don't want to miss that opportunity!

Glad you got better hours there, even if it's not what you want to do. I remember working a 3-11 swing shift and hated it, was really relieved when I got moved to the 7-3 day shift. Though now I'm at a much better job from 8-5 with much better pay and think I found something that will let me do much better.

I was hesitant on Detective Pikachu, but Pokemon and Ace Attorney are my two favorite handheld series (and probably my favorite ones from Nintendo and Capcom respectively) so I'll need to check it out.

If you like Pokemon and Phoenix Wright, I'm surprised you don't already have Detective Pikachu, honestly.
