Gaming On The Cheap: Woodle & Robonauts

Last Thursday or Friday I was browsing through the Nintendo Switch Store and found a couple of games that seemed like they would be entertaining and were a couple of bucks each. I think the most expensive game was $6. Well one I finished in one sitting, and the other well I’m stuck but we’ll get to more of that in a bit, let’s talk about the one I finished first.

Woodle Tree Adventures - Nintendo Switch

01

The main draw for me to this game was that it was a platformer. I knew it was short in reading the reviews but I went with it anyways. I was also surprised it was on Steam but I wanted to play it on my Switch. Point of the game is you are a tree stump who has to collect these three water droplets, go through a world, take out/avoid the bad guys, and maybe collect these red balls if you want. At the end of the level you deposit the droplets and then you proceed to the next world. Did I mention it was short? Eight worlds. Eight worlds where it’s rinse/repeat but the worlds get more challenging being a 3D world, but here’s the kicker: you can move the camera. Yeah there are a lot of blind jumps, and lots of character deaths. Once you get past this, the game is a lot of fun, and I found that taking a slow pace really pays off.

02

It’s a cute game. There is a lot of drama (especially because of a couple of blind jumps) and remember those red balls? You collect them, and you unlock two worlds, and upgrades to your one weapon. Who knew a leaf can be such a deadly instrument.

The game is really short, as in two hours short. I finished it in one sitting, and collected everything before I hit the last level. Game is fun but you shouldn’t pay more than $5 for this game.

Robonauts - Nintendo Switch

03

The second game I bought is a bit longer than Woodle because I’m currently stuck on World 7 (out of 12). This game is a shooter where you’re a little robot who jumps between moons, shoot the bad guys, and accomplish various missions before moving onto the next world. Bad guys drop temporary power-ups, and health packets which help you throughout the level and there really isn’t much more to this game. There are two difficulties, casual, and hard, as well a different ways you can play the game with the Joy Cons.

04

Remember when I said I was stuck? Well in gaming there are two types of level designs I really hate: levels where you have to protect a convoy, and levels where you protect a couple of different areas from constant attacks from enemies. The latter is world 7. It’s the pressure of seeing the area health in the corner of the screen that throws me. I like to slow down a bit while playing but seeing the health meter slowly drop forces me to speed up and then I make a lot of mistakes. Yeah, I paid $7 for this privilege.

Other games I’m playing…

Lego Ninjago Movie Video Games - Nintendo Switch: Apparently I’m close to 90% finished with the game. Once I unlocked one of the speed characters, the races have become easy but I need to play them a couple of times because I’m going so fast I go off cliffs, and miss gates.

Rocket League - Nintendo Switch: Still playing season. It’s still a lot of fun.

Arms - Nintendo Switch: I’m halfway through playing the game with all characters. Currently I am using the green jelly guy. I tried ranked online and I got my lunch handed to me. At least I got a badge.

NCAA Football 14 - PS3: I started a new Dynasty with Louisiana Tech, and I’m playing more of a pass happy offense. Currently in Season 1 the Bulldogs are 6-0.

NBA 2K18 - Steam: I don’t know if I mentioned it but I started a new Franchise but I’m playing a 40 game season, and I am using an expansion team that I have named St. Louis Captains. I’m 14 games in and the Captains lost one game and in that game they got run out of the building.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

I wish the Switch store had a favorite feature that I could add games to so I can remember them to buy later.  Apple took this out of the iOS store too, and I've been mad ever since.

Man that sounds like a good feature for these types of stores, kind of like Steam's Wishlist. Shame they removed them especially if you're waiting for a game to go on sale.

I'm torn right now between playing one of my AAA games or a more casual game. Decisions, decisions.

Never heard of either of those games.  There are so many games on the Switch eShop!
