Video game message board moderators.

I've always considered myself to be a pessimist. I feel our society is obsessed with dancing to the Decadent Dance. Celebrity worship is out of control and too many people have their entire lives online for all to see, We are getting dumber and dumber. You don't think so? Go watch some T.V. commercials where they have to put in small print that these are actor portrayals or need to re-iterate that these are "real people" and not actors. Everything has to be spelled out in big bold letters for them. The biggest concern is that way too many people's entire social life is online, where they can see or read what they have to say but never meet them in the flesh, And then you have the message board moderator.
Not all moderators are bad people. I've met a few of them who aren't power hungry and don't immediately ban people before they talk to them. Some of them want to diffuse the situation and know that the people complaining can be trolls who care little for the site. They want to see what the issue is before they take action.
However, at many video game sites, the moderator is usually a power hungry little man with no life. He spends all day on the site he has been given power at, pushing people around and getting away with stuff a regular user wouldn't. These people are absolute sycophants to the administrator or to the "journalists" who gave them their power trip.
Why would anyone be proud to be a toady? Do they ever look in the mirror and realize that they are smaller than they were before? These people failed to make anything out of their lives in the real world and need to have that taste of power so they turn to the online message boards.
Many of these people are egotistical jerks who talk down to others in a condescending tone. These people think that just because they "got into the pants" of the administrators or a "journalist" that they are superior to those who still have their pride and dignity intact.
It's pretty sad to see people like them act like they deserve respect for their grovelling in order to gain power. It's just another example of our sad society refusing to look at the big picture, that we are regressing.
I'd like to be like many and just ignore it, that it's much ado about nothing. Yet, when you add that up with everything else that is making our society more decadent and debasing, the pessimist just sees it as another blow.
We can only hope for more understanding normal people being given the power and less to those who have no public social life outside of the 18 hours they spend online.
Rant done.
