Quick Hits: Another Episode Of Lazy Saturday

It is Saturday and here I am still in bed and why not write up a new Quick Hits especially since I haven’t done one in a bit. So how are you Pixlpeeps? I am good, just being lazy on Saturday and I have a couple of nerdy-ish things I want to do today but before I get going on the day let’s get this going.

Chris And Amazon Prime Video/Music

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been using both services more than usual. Video has some interesting stuff. It doesn’t have the library that Netflix has but it does have a solid selection of shows, and random items. Last week I found a wrestling company, Pacific Coast Wrestling has some of their shows on Prime and it’s fun to watch because it has wrestlers from Impact, NXT, and other places. There’s also a solid lineup of originals and older shows and movies.

I have regular Prime Music, and not their Unlimited service. I used to use it off and on but again a couple of weeks ago I started really exploring what they offer. For some reason I went through (still going through) a Mariachi phase and I really don’t have any CDs so Amazon Music I went, and there is a solid collection. There are some they held back because they want me to buy into their other service, which is an additional $8 a month. This is insane because for an additional $2 I can go with Spotify or Apple Music and their have enormous libraries compared to Amazon. Anyways what I did find with regular Amazon Music I was satisfied with because there was stuff I liked along with some new stuff I normally wouldn’t check out. I started making random playlists that I can access/download with my Android gizmos.

Chris And Spotify

So after playing with Amazon Music I started thinking about maybe jumping into the Spotify service. I liked my experience with Amazon Music and I want to see what it would be like with even more options. My original stance on music streaming services was that after I end the service I really have nothing to show for it. No CDs or whatnot, but now I’m thinking that maybe after using the service it would push me to listen to new music which would make me buy a new CD or two. $10 isn’t bad especially since I cut out Netflix. We shall see, maybe I’ll try the 30 Day trial and see if it is something I want to continue with. Actually when I’m done with this entry I’ll sign up for the trial.

It’s Voting Time

Last week I got this in the mail

01

This signals it’s time for robo/volunteer calls from randoms who want you to vote for X, commercials touting how great X is for the people, and lawn signs. I started getting calls and one guy took it as disrespect when he said “Hi I’m so and so-” and looking at the number I simply said “wrong number.” He got all hissy and said “excuse me, I’m looking for” and before he finished his sentence I said “HEY WRONG NUMBER.” This was followed by a sigh and a hang up. I do like those ads that like to point out how horrible X is, with ominous music, and the stern voice. Those are the best. One local X had one against them talking about their poor record on crime and they went on the local news talking about how the commercial is racist. Oh the reach is real with this one.

The worst thing about this election is that my polling place was moved from a local Best Western (or one of those hotels by a freeway companies) to a local elementary school that isn’t in the best neighborhood, and by “isn’t the best” I mean it could be featured in multiple episodes of COPS. All of this for California’s terrible clip art I Voted sticker. This is what I go through. You’re welcome California.

Chris Roams Around Hobby Lobby

You know what I like about Hobby Lobby? The back aisles have the fun hobbies: models, sports collectable cases, plastic toys in tubs, drawing items, and other fun things I like to browse for 15-20 minutes. On the way out I like to look through the impulse stuff by the check out lanes and apparently I’ve missed this but there are books, audiobooks, and CDs. Some interesting stuff but it’s all religious stuff. I almost bought a couple of CDs but eventually passed but I bought some Astronaut Ice Cream and I was off

03

So this is the thing with Astronaut Ice Cream: the package has been the same size since I was a kid, big package with a little square of Neapolitan Ice Cream. I get that the huge packaging was suppose to protect the product but the block of ice cream is all broken. Stuff isn’t the greatest but I like it.

Pickups

Games

I bought this game on iPad

04

04b

I think it was $1 for a Solitaire battle game. It didn’t sound too bad so I figured why not. I also bought the one DLC item which was four additional decks for another $1, so $2 I got a fun Solitaire game to play in spurts. The different decks have different powers so it should mix up the gameplay.

Some freebie games

06

Two freebies from Humble Bundle. They also have another four games that are free but I haven’t signed in for my Steam keys.

Music

It’s been a month since I bought my last CD and while waiting for my lunch I went to a thrift store next door to the restaurant and found these items

07

The Mozart box set is a 10 CD set, kind of like a Greatest Hits. I probably have all these tracks when I bought the Amazon Masters Collection (they’re like $1 for 100 tracks) but I want a physical copy. This was $6. Yo-Yo Ma is always good to have in the library, and I’m building up my collection of his music, and the Pure Dance CD I bought for Freak Nasty’s Da Dip. Both were $2 each.

Earlier in the week after dropping off a package at the Post Office I hit the three thrift stores close by. These were my go-to’s back in the day to find video games, jerseys, cards, and toys before all the hipsters and resellers decided to ruin it. One of the three is always super cheap, and doesn’t charge tax. Their CDs are also .50 cents which is great especially if you find a Dreamcast or PSX game. No games but I did find these CDs

09

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off, I should get up now…should. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I use amazon music sometimes but not often.  Its good for trying out music. I prefer buying music as i know u do, so when i get curious about a band ill listen to them and decide.

Ive always wanted to play flame in the flood and a galsctic civilizations game.  I think i hsve the third one on steam from a sale.

That mozart box is sweet.

I like Amazon Music but having them close off a portion of their library for their premium service bugs me even though they do eventually release new tracks to their regular service.

Grab copies from Humble Bundle, and add them to your Steam library because free is always good. I installed them but I probably won't play them for a couple of days.

I dig that box set. All the discs are scratch free. It looks like the last owner took really good care of them.

I reviewed that Solitarica game and met the creators of it at PAX.  Here's my review:

If you want to play a really awesome solitaire game, try Pocket Card Jockey on 3DS!

Nice! Yeah I keep the gold. I don't know why, but I do. I do like spending crystals on new decks.

I'll look up Pocket Card Jockey. Something fun to have on the 3DS.

I got lucky on Thursday when there were voting booths in the same court building I was serving a jury summons. Looking up candidate platforms on vote411 and going to vote helped pass those 4 hours before not getting picked.

Which offspring album is that?

Ice cream space candy sounds delicious.

Damn, that works well. I need to read the book the state sent, write down my picks on my phone and I should be good. I tried bringing my book a couple of elections ago but it slowed me down, at least with the phone list, its quick and I can be in and out in minutes.

The Offspring album is Conspiracy Of One. I thought I needed this album for the library, but turns out I bought it awhile ago. I really need to look at my CD list before buyiing new albums.

Astronaut Ice Cream isn't bad but I wish it was cheaper. I should check the local sporting goods store to see if they have anything similar.

I don't know if Texas sends books. I've been to voting places where they give you some fact sheets about for/against proposition measures, but that's about it.

I've been looking into Spotify and Netflix lately. I may switch my Game Pass on Xbox to one of those services. I kind of like physical media better those. It limits my choices, but limits can be good. I kind of lose interest when I have access to everything.

I'm currently trying the 3 months of Spotify for .99 cents on their main page and I have to say I do like it. I like the curated playlists of new stuff and I've found some new music. When I get paid I'll look for the albums on Amazon and hopefully there's a physical copy available.

I'm trying to limit myself to new stuff on Spotify, but I did create some playlists of stuff I like because on the bottom of the playlists there is a section of songs that I might like. It's a good jumping off point to find new stuff.
