Postcard from the Mushroom Kingdom

What’s up guys! Just wanted to send a little postcard from ESO: Morrowind, the place I’ve disappeared to for the last few months.

I’ve played a lot of MMOs in the past. A lot of them play very similarly in terms of mechanics, yet Elder Scrolls Online is probably the least similar to other MMOs and closer to the single player experience in terms of combat and exploration, although there are still very common MMO elements like hotkey actions and fetch quests.  One cool thing about the Morrowind expansion is that you can start a new character immediately in this new area without requiring a high-level character. Sometimes in MMOs you have to reach the end of the base game before getting access to new expansion areas, so it’s refreshing that I can just play this area alone if I want too.

I like having the option of fighting in first person view mode. It makes it feel more immersive when I’m exploring the overworld and can also switch to 3rd person camera for fighting multiple enemies so I can plan strategies better. From the very beginning of the game, there are plenty of tombs, caves and mines to discover and just go on a killing spree without needing to push any of the story or side quests. However, the story and side-quests are all very good. I think the visual updates to Elder Scrolls Online world is much easier on the eyes than playing through the older games. Whether the story content lives up to previous games, I don’t know? The MMO structure makes it very accessible though. I can’t wait to eventually play Summerset expansion and visit the land of elves.

Morrowind is such an amazing environment. Giant ass mushrooms towering everywhere. It’s basically a giant island filled with giant mushrooms and a volcano at the top of it which you can see in the background no matter where you’re traveling. I like all the weird dark elf lore too.

E3 thoughts

I’m very excited about Resident Evil 2 remake. God damn! It looks spooky as hell with all the new lighting.

I’m glad Kingdom Hearts 3 has a release date at least.

I enjoyed DMC so obviously I was surprised to see the new Devil May Cry 5 trailer.

The new FromSoft Souls game that’s a Samurai souls game looks interesting, as well as the Onimusha game that Sony is making.

Assassins Creed Odyssey looks amazing. I want to jump back into the series with this game.

Other thoughts…

Black Ops 3 is free on PS+ so I’m trying that out for the first time and it’s pretty fun! It’s more future robot/scifi than modern wars and I like this theme a lot. It’s like Vanquish or Titanfall or Binary Domain. Very cool story.

No prob. I really only like BlackOps3 honestly. I think its very good, if you've never played it. The campaign any way.

that Morrowind expansion does look really good. I'd like to get into that game but just don't have the time.

I'm also hyped for RE2. I loved the original game. It would be nice to revisit.

I love the settings for Assassin's Creed games, but just can never get into the games. It's lame, but that's how it is.

Hope u are well!

Morrowind is self contained zone. You can just play that. I got the whole game on sale for like $10 with Morrowind included. I think it was because they wanted people to buy new expansion Summerset. I like Morrowind a lot actually.

Lately, I've been more open to playing open-world games. I think Breath of the Wild did something to my brain.Thats why I've been enjoying Morrowind I guess?

The gameplay footage for resi 2 looks great! So keen!

Nero and Dante look fucking weird though. Not a huge fan of their new look, but still looking forward to it.

The Last Assassins Creed was pretty great, so im keen for this too.

i bounced off ESO, but maybe I should give it another go at some point.

The thing with ESO is that Morrowind is a self contained area. You can just play that part if you don't feel like leveling the entire game. I just ran around killing things and exploring caves and such. It reminded me of Xenoblade and it's weird alien world. Also, Im enjoying the magic class. I have a little dragon companion to co-op fights. I was mainly interested in exploring Morrowind by itself. The story stuff isn't bad either. Also, for an MMO, the UI is not cluttered and messy like other games. I like that a lot. Plus, you can read all the little books you find in peoples homes.

Was the last Assassins Creed in London? I wanted to play that one.

I liked DMC a lot and wanted another game in that world. I noticed that Dante does a slow motion move during combat like Bayonetta and I hope they are borrowing witch time to freshen up DMC combat.

RE2 is amazing! I watched a lot of gameplay for it and it seems like it's pretty difficult. Either that or the game streamers are just bad at games? The official capcom stream had a player who kept dying over and over because zombies kept getting up after they seemed dead. It's a weird twist like Crimson Heads from RE1 Remake.

Nah the last AC was Egypt. I liked it a lot outside of the story, especially how much it borrowed from the witcher 3. the new one looks like it's doing that too.

Yeah everyone I saw had a bad time of it, so maybe the controls are more difficult than your RE4's and Dead Spaces? Either way, it actually looks somewhat scary and super atmospheric -which is weird given zombies are the least scary thing ever to me.

Oh shit then, I definitely need to play it then, even if it is just to explore morrowind again!

I saw ESO on Game Pass the other day. I may give it a try.

Oh cool. Now I'm going to download it. Not to say I'm anti-social or anything. I enjoy a rando here and there.

The Warden and Mage classes have companions that will co-op fight with you. I haven't tried the other classes yet. This made soloing easier.

Interesting. It's loaded up. I'm stuck in Wasteland 2 though at the moment.
