I just want my nerd-topia!

Thought I’d catch you all up. My property manager/land-lord peeps have been going hog wild with inspections. The first one was the standard normal maintenance inspection. The second one was a led paint inspection. And the third? As they didn’t leave the exact time they’re coming or the reason why I couldn’t tell you. I will say it’s getting annoying and this is not the first time my property manager has stepped on my toes. Three inspections in the same month? Cripes, do they think I’m harboring drugs or something?

Needless to say, when I’m being spammed with inspections I’m not in a talkative friendly mood. My land lady and property manager may have a difficult time grasping what “anxiety disorder” actually means. In addition to the inspections workers have been in here recently to re-paint the bathroom walls. I was actually happy about that but it’s still stressful having so many random drop ins from people who are mostly complete strangers.

Next month I’ve set my heart on getting God Eater Burst and 3rd Birthday. I know many gamers talk of 3rd Birthday as if it’s the metaphorical black sheep on the psp but because I’ve already attained so many long winded rpgs, I want something more fast paced to break up the monotony of the grind!

The month after that I’ll probably get Ys 7 and another memory card for the psp. Exciting stuff, right? (Looks nervous)

I realize a lot of my more personal blogs are on 1up and I’ve been debating if I should open up as much on pixlbit. Of course my true friends never gave me a hard-time about who I am but I think I was starting to make certain readers “uncomfortable” to put it mildly.

So as interesting as it might be to blog about my near nonexistent sex life, erotic fantasies, experiences with poverty, brief period as a terrible hentai artist, or personal battles with clinical depression, I do wonder if it’s appropriate on a site where the big focus is gaming. Perhaps I was a bit too candid on 1up and this is my chance to ditch the futility in order to create blogs you all find more entertaining! (And on topic)

Ys Seven is a terrific game and the first to get me into the franchise. Ignore what reviewers say about the long dialog between characters, the combat is fast and fun. I recommend it as one of my fav PSP games.

3rd Birthday. It's more a shooter than an RPG. As a shooter, it's a bit strange. You dive into other peoples bodies and there are a lot of tough battles. I had the Aya Wallpaper on my PSP for years. I really enjoyed the game for it's quirkiness. I can't think of anything else to compare it to in gaming? Really stumped?

I know what you mean about settling down on a new site. I haven't quite found a new place either and float around places like destructoid and joystiq. Not to mention my own wordpress blog.

I'm really enjoying dead island at the moment. You are the one that drew my interest into the game. It's great.

What can I say? I love zombies! Though I admit lately the "zombie fever" in our entertainment media has made me more luke warm towards them. lol. What I wouldn't give for a decent were-wolf themed survival horror game taking place in a remote Canadian town!

3rd Birthday seems interesting. Diving into random soldiers to get a better tactical advantage adds an extra wrinkle of strategy into what is usually just a third person shooter. I should be able to appreciate that.

Ys 7 is a given! I just know I have to snage it for my psp collection!

Another quirky thing about 3rd birthday is that Ayas close tear off to represent lowered health. Weird.

The other PE games flaunted Aya's sex appeal too though not as much as damagable clothing. (However there was some nude art of her and a few pieces that suggested Melissa and Aya were lesbians. And yes, the art I'm speaking of was "official". lol.)

I don't mind the eye candy but I imagine quite a few game juornalists were "offended" in some way.

I don't plan on writing any personal blogs here. It was different on 1up. I guess people are already, but I'd rather not go there. Most of my true friends know me by now anyway. You do what you gotta do though Ben. I'm sorry to hear they are giving you such a hard time with the inspections. I hope you have plenty of flamethrower fuel stocked up in case any fridge blobs appear lol. Laughing

I actually passed my first inspections so it's odd I'm getting a third. I have been much better at keeping my place clean & in order. Last year I threw out a lot of junk I no longer needed & that helped tremendously!

I may still right a more gonzo & personal blog once in awhile but what happened at 1up sort of showed me you have to be careful what you put out there.

Then again, we should never entirely censor ourselves just to "fit in" either. Doing so makes us lose our diversity,Aaron!

Ah, I blog what I feel.  I don't worry so much about it, though if I rant I usually regret it later.  Still, what the hell.  Life is short.  NO use worrying about it.

Sucks about the inspections.  I'm lucky I have my parents to take care of me.    Hey I downloaded Black Rock Shooter for the PSP.  Seems like your kind of game.  IT was $20, and is a download only, no retail release. I mean, I love my 3DS, but I always go back to my PSP.

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 12:48 PM

Funny you mention Black-Rock Shooter,Matt. I was looking up information on it yesterday. lol. You must be psychic!

As for your rants, they never offended me. Even if they did in the future,we're friends. Everyone is different with unique perspectives and that's how it should be.

At your core you're a good person and to me that's the important thing.

Personally Ben I ve always appreciated and respected your honesty when it comes to your own experiences, however far be it that I am in any position to advise how 'hardcore' you should write, just know quite a few (myself included) will always have your back!

Thanks,Adam! Btw, dropped by your DA page recently. Loved the owl, man! Great stuff!

I do feel as if honesty is the best policy. Even if it's painful and embarassing sometimes. Besides, it's better people know "me" rather than a snarky fabrication I create just so I can be hip online. lol.

A lot of game journalists try to push forward pseudo personalities which are not  genuine so I rather avoid that trap.

Yeah I noticed mate, thanks for the feedback it's good to see you back around DA's grounds. I know its difficult to spend time in several places at once though!

Sorry you're getting spammed with inspections, I would hate people being around my place all day as well.

As for personal blogs, I weave it in from time to time, but leave a lot of key details out. I think personal blogs are totally acceptable, but then I'm the resident "guy with no current gen systems," so what do I know?

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 12:56 PM

I feel you. I tend to write more personal blogs when I don't have access to new games. Aka, I still want to be social yet I don't want to talk about any particular game too long.

And there's nothing wrong with kicking it old school,Joe! lol.

It should be fine,Cary. My last two inspections went swell enough. Nothing seems to be in serious disarray! I'll check your pm soon!

Nobody on here will judge you thats the good thing about here, and if you think about it everyone on here knows you from 1up and if we tolerated you there we can here lol!!! of course you know im playing lol at any rate i consider all of you freinds and if you got something to say i for one will help if i can and certainly not judge you for who you are.Laughing

04/29/2013 at 01:02 PM

It's true, most people on 1up were the best. lol. And the same has been consistent with pixlbit.

I find it oddly telling the only person giving me beef was a "professional game journalist" and his personal goon squad.

Just goes to show you a person getting a pay-check is not necessarily more mature, more knowledgeable, or more deserving. A fact also proven by people like Adam Orth. lol.

Lead paint inspection?  Lead paint hasn't be legal since the late 70s.  Who has lead paint?  Is you building yearly tested because it has lead paint?

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 01:04 PM

It's about being poor,yo! They tend to put you in substandard housing when you don't have the income to afford better,James. It sucks but it is what it is.

Beyond the possible left over led paint my apartment is pretty nice though. A lot more pleasant than my first apartment in Asheville, heh.

Ugh. Inspections. Sorry to hear that, man. Sounds like you're definitely enjoying that PSP though. I wanna get the Ys games but with so many other PSP games to play, I'm not sure when that will be.

Feel free to blog whatever you want. Just blog about games too lol

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 01:07 PM

Luckily, the psp has opened up a lot more opertunities for me to talk about games! I've been really enjoying Jeanne D'arch. Though it might be blasphemy for me to admit it, I prefer it just a little bit over Ogre Battle:LCT so far.

I notice my blogs take a different tone on here than they did on 1up, maybe I feel like i"m writing to a different audience, even though most of my comment traffic is from former 1uppers. Maybe I feel like we "leveled up" and I need to live up to the new expectations. Maybe its the overall look and feel of the site that I'm inadvertantly trying to match.

Either way, I understand your feeling about not wanting to get personal on here, especially after the Twitter fiasco with a certain someone from a certain other gaming blog site. Although I always admired the fact you were brave enough to share it all with us. I admit after seeing how people react to your more risque blogs, I felt  comfortable being more candid in my own blogs.

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 01:10 PM

Ha ha ha! I know what you mean. I had that feeling too which is silly on account I know everyone here just about. Aka, why would I feel the obligation to write for a new audience?

It could be the "rebirth effect". Aka yes, we are the same people but we are on a new site. Maybe on a sub concious level we're looking forward to starting over and improving ourselves.

Sorry about your landlord being such a pain. And don't ever feel like you can't be yourself on this site. If you can't do it here, where could you? This is not Facebook, thankfully. We all share the same dramas and hardships and stuff. Folks on here seem to be pretty understanding most of the time. As for 3rd Birthday I like it. I just wish they would do a proper next gen game to continue the legacy of Parasite Eve.

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 01:15 PM

I'm with you,Celt. I was hoping Third Birthday would lead to something "bigger" for the PE series. However, the game didn't do as well as expected. (Also because the psp was doing better in Japan from the onset.)

I've had some fans tell me to steer clear but even if I don't like certain aspects of the story, the gameplay still looks enjoyable!

Lastly, thanks for accepting me as I am. That means a lot.

jcal94

04/29/2013 at 06:13 PM

Ben, one alternative to Third Birthday, at least from what I have heard, is Black Rock Shooter. It came out on the PSN on the 23rd for $20, and is extremely fun. Most of my gaming has been split between it and Devil Survivor 2 lately. I haven't played Third Birthday, but I have heard it and Black Rock Shooter have relatively the same gameplay. Except Black Rock Shooter has more of an anime-style look and has a cute girl instead of Aya. And one costume is torn clothes. Really, it's up in the air for you between them cause they're pretty close, but I will say, I recommend BRS whether you get Third Birthday or not.

Also, I'm probably gonna get God Eaters Burst on my Vita next month too! I keep on seeing the sexy Russian girl around the net, and well.... My 18 year old self can't hold back any longer! Hahaha!

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 06:19 PM

God Eater Burst looks great. The art style and post apocolyptic setting reminds me of a bunch of Shin Megami Tensei games. (Especially Digital Devil Saga) I'm hoping we eventually get God Eater 2 state side too but I guess that depends on whether or not Japan believes it would be a profitable risk.

I really want to try Black-rock shooter. Would have been nice if they released a physical copy of it though! (That's the collector snob in me coming through. lol.)

Ben, just blog about anything you like. I guess the only recommendation I can give is to balance topics.

I can't help but mention your reply to Chrozi with the move to this site. Here we are, the same folks and same adventures, but it's like we have moved to another continent to continue our quests and we still feel like newbies in a beggining of an RPG. Hope I made sence with that lol.

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 11:12 PM

You make perfect sense! That's more eloquent than I put it actually. I'll try my best to balance topics too. Luckily, I've learned a few things from my mistakes.

04/29/2013 at 11:10 PM

Sorry your landlord has been hassling you. It sounds unnecessary, but who knows.

I'm kind of interested in The 3rd Birthday. I guess it was a letdown compared to Parasite Eve 1 and 2, though.

As far as personal blogs, if you feel 'em, write 'em. People are going to be dicks anyway. It's the Internet, and the anonymity of the Internet brings out the inner asshole in everyone.

BrokenH

04/29/2013 at 11:16 PM

That is true. There's not much to lose on the internet,Andrew. lol. Sure, people can type nasty things but all it can be is tiny words on a computer screen. In lu of that I think it's better to be made fun of for being myself. Besides, a fancy tie and nice haircut wouldn't keep the trolls away. Celebrities and politicians get flamed viciously like the rest of us!

I've been wanting to try 3rd birthday for awhile. My only fear is it might be short. Some reviews say a gamer can blaze through it in 5 hours while other places confirmed it took 15 hours. Not sure what I should believe at this point.

TheMart22

04/29/2013 at 11:29 PM

Hey, nevermind about being OT. I think it's important we develop a community here where people are free to express whatever they are feeling. Just because we are all here for gaming purposes does not mean we would not be interested in whatever else anyone wants to share. Bring it on man. Seriously.

BrokenH

04/30/2013 at 10:59 AM

That's good to know because there are certain weeks I don't have anything necessarily gamer related to talk about. lol. Luckily, I can talk about movies, art projects, music, and funny or sad real life stories if pressed into the corner. It's good to know people at pixlbit have broader interests so as a blogger I have more to work with.

Joaquim Mira Media Manager

04/30/2013 at 10:54 AM

None of my blogs would be toxic enough to hurt fellow readers & bloggers. Er, at least I hope. lol. If I ever write something that is that way politely pm me and I'll make revisions or take it down. It shouldn't happen but I love pixlbit enough I'd compromise and comply if necessary.

I think the raciest I got on 1up was putting up enemy designs for my game idea and some of them had frontal nudity. Jeremy kind of got on my shit for that and I can sort of understand why. (Then again there are A LOT of games with nudity in them so at the time I argued that very point. lol. I could be really pig headed sometimes, Joaquim.)

Joaquim Mira Media Manager

Oh no worries, I just meant that to keep it civil and responsible.

I should probably ask Nick for an age gate option on blogs LOL.

EternalKnight001

Definitely sounds stressful; sometimes I can't even handle having people I know quite well wandering around my lair, let alone those I don't know well, poking and snooping into ever nook and cranny. Feel for you, man- just grit your teeth and get through it, thats all I can say- good luck!

My advice: go for it with the personal blogs. We're all people, and I think we all appreciate getting to know each other as human beings- not just our 'gamer selves' but the whole package. Plus, I guess I'm a bit of an optimist, but I'd like to think that if we have problems to discuss, the community here on pixlbit would be here as a sounding board. Although... I suppose I don't have to guess at that fact, given the comments *above*. So just go for it; say what you want, when you want, and don't worry about what 'should' or 'shouldn't' be said.

BrokenH

You're right. We shouldn't censor ourselves to fit in. However, I do think we're obligated to show basic decency when interacting with others. I'll hold that principle in high regard so it takes top priority!

Also glad to know I'm not the only one who gets anxious when people crowd my space. I'm generally nice to the maintenence staff and my immediate land-lady but the regional manager drives me bonkers!

smartcelt

05/01/2013 at 05:04 PM

I must find that God Eater Burst game you are talking about. May have to look on Amazon. The part you said about lead paint made me remember an apartment I rented when I was in college. It was in a building that opened in 1920. Everything in the halls was brass and marble. Lead paint in every room out the wazoo! I decided to rid my apartment of it. Got one of those roto-strippers and took it down to bare walls. Finished out the walls and painted them. Landlord said my place looked great! Then he raised my rent by 75 bucks.....what a jerk.

BrokenH

05/01/2013 at 05:27 PM

Wow,just wow. You probably saved your land-lord from a failed city inspection, did maintenence yourself, and asked for nothing in return. Yet he RAISED your rent? Some nerve, man. Maybe he's from a weird bizzaro culture where dicking people over is an expression of gratitude. lol.

Gods Eater Burst seems pretty slick. A lot of people compare it to Monster Hunter but the setting, characters, and creature designs remind me more of a Shin Megami Tensei game.
