So this is usually not my kind of games, but i am a strategist and as such do respect and love the granddaddy of all strategy games Chess, and this game does an excellent job of not only teaching you how to pkay chess but shows you strategys , concepts, and is very deep.

Chessmaster is developed and published by Ubisoft, This game is a chess game that you must experience if you have the slightest interest in chess, this game has it all Teacher, Mentor, ultimate opponent, and let me make one thing perfectly clear , this is not as much of a teacher as it is a chess simulator. Chessmasters tutorials are very well thought out and in depth, from basic peicediscriptions and functions to standard offensive strategies to sophisticated defensive concepts, chessmasters does it all.

Chessmaster features a ton of game modes to choose from, local park mathes to a 3d match with a freind as animated peices slaughter each other with no remorse, theres single move puzzles where the computer outs you in a situation that you must get out of and theres even drills an exams yea you heard right and they really define your skills. the only issue i had with the game is navigating through the menues can be a chore, as far as the graphics are concerned, theres very little thats appealing the game peices and 3d animi is done well but the interface is as appealing as looking at your dvd menue, lol the different chess boards keeos things fresh. The sound is well not much theres relaxing elevator music and well thats it, so bottom line, Chessmaster is without a diubt the best chess game available on the ps2 and if your a strategy fan ir just like chess theres alot to love here if not then this game may not be for you.

I love chess, but as a whole I think I would rather sit with a friend and chess board as opposed to a friend and console playing chess. Regardless though, this game seems like it would be a great way to pick up some tips/tricks and also a decent challenge to play solo!

I never was great at chess but I do remember going a few rounds against a friend with this game and liking it well enough. It's great if you are in the need of more mellow and strategically methodical entertainment!

Video games and chess? It's right up my son's alley. He loves to kick my butt at chess. He plays it on the iPad a lot to hone his skills. That looks like a fun game for us both to play.

Chess is too much for my little brain.  But I learned how to play it via an old PC chess game called Battle Chess, so I could see all the battle animations.

Well, it's certainly much deeper in content than the one we played on NES, that's for sure.
