I'd play some Galak-Z. For free that is.
Have a Super Mario Chess birthday gift.

Hey guess what? You know what Saturday, September 15 is? It’s my birthday! Yay! So you know what that means. You’re invited to my pretend birthday party! Please give me a pretend present in the comments section. It won’t cost you anything, and it’s the thought that counts…literally! Plus I always have fun seeing what you folks come up with. Anyway, even though it’s my birthday, I’ve got some presents for YOU! Links to game reviews I’ve recently written at GamerDad.com! I know, just what you’ve always wanted. Please read as many as you can and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. OK, let’s begin.
In this game you play as a brother or sister. Your mom runs a café, but one day she becomes ill and falls into an endless sleep. A mysterious old man appears and tells you that your mom is half human, half dragon, and you can save her by raising a baby dragon. So now you must run a café and take care of a little dragon at the same time. It’s a real cute game. If it sounds a bit like Harvest Moon to you, you wouldn’t be far off the mark, as it was made by the same guy who did those titles, too!
This is the sequel to the cooking maze action game that came out last year. It’s just more of the same, but still a lot of fun. But ONLY if you have more than one player with you. The game is near impossible to play by yourself. That’s the only main problem with it.
Mario McDonald’s Happy Meal Toys
Last month, McDonald’s had Mario themed Happy Meal toys again, and thanks to my family I was able to get them all. I know it’s a little late to show them off since you can’t get them now, but sometimes McDonald’s will give out old toys if they run out of new ones, so maybe you can still get them. I wasn’t very impressed with them, though, but maybe I’m just asking too much of Happy Meal toys.
This game plays a lot like single screen maze chase games like Bubble Bobble. Except it’s missing the charming characters, colorful graphics, and catchy tunes those games usually have. Plus the play control is a bit sluggish.
As a kid, I didn’t have much exposure or experience to the game of hacky sack. I probably saw the little balls in stores but didn’t know what they were. The first time I saw the game played was in a video game called California Games. But I never saw anyone actually play it until I got to college and there would always be students playing it outside the dorm lobby. And that’s my history with hacky sack, until this new game. Hacky Zack is a 2-D puzzle platformer where you must kick a ball into a goal to move to the next level. It’s SUPER HARD, though, and I couldn’t even get past the first world!
In this maze action game, you are a blob who can ‘swim’ through the air and must navigate mazes without touching certain walls. It kind of reminded me of an old PSOne game called Irritating Stick, which was actually based on an old Japanese game show.
This is a free-to-play game on the Switch. I like how it plays like classic games such as Gravitar in the arcade and Solar Jetman on the NES, but the fiddly menus and free-to-play junk got in the way of the fun, and I got tired of it pretty quickly because of that.
And last is this 2-D multiplayer game that’s kind of like Smash Bros. except you must pick up your opponents and toss them into ‘baskets’ for points. It also kind of reminded me of a mini-game in BattleBlock Theater, but not near as good. I just found the game a bit too chaotic and not very fun. My brother Jeff liked the weird art style, though.
And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading my reviews and posting likes and comments. And thanks for the pretend birthday presents, too! Later! --Cary
I believe Galak-Z is free on any of the consoles it's available for.
I've seen that Mario chess set before. It's pretty cool, but I'm not much of a chess player. My brain can't plan that far ahead.
I have to question the choices on some of the pieces, though. Why is Luigi the queen and not Princess Peach? And coins are the pawns?
I could probably make a Mario chess set out of all the amiibo figures I have.
Speaking of which, I thought of you the other day. Remember how I told you I wanted the Crash and N. Cortex Skylander figures? Well I got 'em for five bucks at Five and Below! I'm glad I waited.
Speaking of amiibo, the next two figures I want to get are becoming a pain in the butt. The Dark Souls and Mega Man 11 amiibo are GameStop exclusives, and GameStop has been sucking extra hard for me lately. Will this be when I stop collecting amiibo? Can't say for sure, but it would be a shame if it were true, as I've been doing pretty well up until this point. Sorry, just had to vent.
The two Five & Belows I went to had more than ten of the Crash Skylander sets each. Let me know if you don't find them.
I don't know what that pose means on that Dark Souls amiibo. Looks like he's saying, "Hooray!" or "Yawn I'm sleepy!" or "I ate a sandwich thiiiiis big!"
depends on which ones, but when I was collecting Skylander figures, Gamestop had huge barrels full of them. I scarfed up so many of them. I'm still missing a few but I have a lot of them. They're probably not hard to get online for cheap though. I like finding them in the wild better. And, I'm not into super rare ones, just the main ones.
I think amiibo's used to be hard to find when they first came out but maybe now they are pretty available.
For your birthday, you get Like a Dragon: Chibi. It's a yakuza game with no reference to the yakuza, where the storylines are mosty like the substories in yakuza games where you go around helping people out and the characters are given a cel-shaded, chibi style. Most of the minigames are still there (the PG ones, anyway) and you play as Cami from Street Fighter for some reason.
Oh yeah, I know Repede. He was one of my favorite characters in Tales of...um...Vesperia? I think that's the one. I think the other character I liked in that game was a blue haired lady with a spear. I think her name was Judith or something. Not sure why I liked her.
But my favorite Tales character was Grune from Tales of Legendia, the Tales game nobody likes but me. Grune was my favorite not because she was a fanservice character, but because everything that came out of her mouth was hilarious. Plus she was all green, and that's my favorite color. Heck, even her name means green in German.
