So far today, I've eaten breakfast, done some laundry and plan to attend this re-employment orientation with the Texas Workforce Commission way before the date they told me I had to, cause I am so, so tired of not being employed. A friend was asking why I haven't found anything when a Master's and being a former professor must count for something, but I've been rejected by so many jobs in both the private and university sectors, inside and outside my field, at, above and below the salary or pay-per-hour I want, that I'm wondering when this shit ever ends. Granted I've only been at it for a few months and I was kind of in summer vacation mode for most of July and August, but I still applied to several of what I thought were realisitic jobs for me during that time and in a job market that I keep hearing is the employee's to control with record low unemployment. I just don't get it. I have a personal friend who works with my university's career department and have done everything they said, even updating things now and again ... and now I can't log in to the Texas Workforce Commission site because it won't accept my security answer no matter how I type it in and you have to wait ten minutes ... just *SIIIIIIIIIGGGHHHHHH*

Sorry to rant, but this is one of the few places I feel I can without being a burden or getting unsolicited "advice" about what I simply must be doing wrong (I'm doing everything they assume I'm not, 100% of the time).

In better news, I may be doing some Pixlbit reviews in the near future, since I contacted Nick and said I might as well do something with this free time. He's since said he might have a Steam/PS4 key for me, so we'll see where all that goes.

I got past chapter 5 in God of War last night, watched a bit more of Luke Cage, and otherwise spent yesterday applying to jobs that fit my skills and experience.

The mandatory re-employment orientation they make you do starts at 1:30 P.M., so I've been hanging out on social media while my pants dry. I've looked at job boards, but not much new today. Maybe this is a good time to go back to school for some IT stuff.

Ok, I should stop typing now.

Hit me up, Pixlbitches.

Oh, and I was on a legit episode of Nerds Without Pants where I said virtually nothing about Yakuza, so be on the lookout for that.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. One time I was unemployed for about nine months, and I tried everything. I was applying to damn gas stations. I even went to an interview once and it turned out to be that "selling knives to family and friends shit."  Sigh. It sucked.

I hope you don't go through that. Something will turn up eventually. The way I see it, sometimes you have to wait for the perfect opportunity to come along.

My brother did that once and I still remember my aunt being annoyed and using her regular stuff behind his back. Apparently though, they give you free certification trainings if you're unemployed, so I'm hoping for one of those sweet project management gigs that pay $80,000 a year our re-employment instructor mentioned getting someone. Said he has a degree in that stuff, but she got hired with just the cert!

And yeah, Stephen Colbert saying to Frasier (forget his real name) that he didn't want the Colbert Report gig, but took it from his agent cause he "just needed a job" has been on my mind a lot. It's interesting where stuff goes ...

Well, you're doing fine as navigator on my bomber in Bomber Crew. A sweet office gig is waiting when you return to civilian life. . . if you return. Ha!

Yea, I'm only half employed and just beginning to sort out what I want to do next. I have no idea what I'll really being doing a year from now. I'm just trying to finish this schooling and start applying.

Good luck.

Good to hear, but the veteran who spoke to us at mandatory re-employment training said not to expect a job waiting for you once out of military ...

But he also said someone got an $80,000 project management gig from certifications, so I do plan to utilize this free schooling I apparently get.

Thanks.

I got to look into such programs in my area.

Yeah, at least for me, college was a big fat waste of time.  Hasn't really helped me get a job once, from what I can tell.  Even my dad agrees that nowadays, it's best just to learn a trade or something.

I was largely able to get most of my more impressive looking experience from being a student worker and was hired as a prof because my own profs liked me, so I can't say college was a total waste for me, but I should have spent way more time working on my portfolio and less on my GPA if I don't get that doctorate.

But the guy teaching us mandatory re-employment training said he'd seen someone with just a certification get an 80,000 year project management gig while he has a 4 year degree in that and works in the Workforce commission office for 40,000
