Blake's Making a Video Game!

Hey guys, so I had to quit my job due to health concerns. I'm using this time to study coding and thought, you know what, why not make a game!

Its a horror metroidvania. My primary influences are metroid (particularly super and fusion), inside, the oddworld games, lone survivor, silent hill, and metal gear solid 3.

The basic set up is that you play as a space marine named ellanor. You and your squad are sent to investigate some ritual killings on a somewhat primitive planet. You arrive, and things play out like a typical metroid game. You get power ups, explore, shoot enemies, you know how it all goes.

You find the person behind the ritual killings and confront him. He then cuts you in half and throws you in a ditch. A local coven of witches discover you and take you in, healing you with a mix of magic and technology. You now have robot legs.

You have no weapon however, and the planet is only growing more corrupt and hostile to your presence. You'll have to sneak past enemies or run until you find a weapon, and even then, some immortal creatures stalk you when the sun is down...

Gameplay ideas so far: all power ups are useful in both combat and for traversal. For instance, there's a pulse shotgun that knocks you back when you fire it. This can be effective against enemies, give you a backwards dash, help you jump further, and if you aim down it works as a double jump.

Your mechanical legs malfunction at times, causing you to continuously run (for hellish auto run sections) or stop moving entirely, at which you have to fight off waves of enemies while waiting for them to repair.

I'm totally stealing to codex from MGS3 and having you able to talk to people to gain extra lore information.

I'm going to steal the bonfire system from dark souls, as well take cues from the way it designs levels. You will unlock shortcuts.

The game is going to focus on psychological and body horror, as the villain can enter your mind and use dimensional rifts to make ellanors darkest fears manifest.

So what have I got so far? The entire story is written. If you want to hear it, inbox me and I'll let you know how shit will go down.

 I have some art:

This is potentially a title screen. I might make some changes later.

This is an alien demon spider bat. Could be a boss or a standard enemy. I don't know yet.

And this horrific monstrosity is a boss fight based that is based on ellanors fear of pregnancy. Yeah.

I also have some music made:

This will probably be title screen music.

And this will more than likely be level music.

The goal is to have a working demo that I can use to kick-start the game. I won't hold my breath for getting funded, but it would certainly help out a lot if I did.

If you want to know more about the game, feel free to ask. If you want spoiler stuff, inbox me. If you want to play rest the game, let me know and I'll send you demo builds as I go!

Where will the -vania aspect come in? XP, level ups, melee weapons?

It's more the horror stuff. There will be melee weapons though. You get a chainsaw. I was thinking of doing a level up system, but I think that could get in the way of the horror stuff.

If I get around to making a sequel though (and hopefully I will because I have the plot and gameplay planned out in my head) it will be a metroid prime inspired first person shooter with elements of chronicles of riddick, amnesia the dark descent, half life, and quake. It'll start like a standard fps but by the end you'll be running as fast as doom marine, dodging projectiles, and rocket jumping with the best of them.

Yeah. The metroid prime style game the one I've always wanted to make, but I need to know I can make a 2d one before I make a 3d game.

Sounds like a great game! Creative pursuits are very rewarding. I wish I could make games.

That first image makes me think of the phrase, "cyberspace alien".

It's not stealing. You were inspired by.

You sound like my lawyer. "He didn't steal that car, your honour, he was inspired by it."
