Games Beaten
-Castlevania (NES Classic)
Castlevania in many ways defines classic. Few series have been as long and influential, as loved and hated. But try as I might as a child, I never got past Frankenstein's monster (and that bloody imp) but the NES Classic gave me another chance. Yes, this game is stiff but it is designed around that stiffness and so is fair. It still looks and sounds good—those tunes!—and has a wonderful sense of place. But the catharsis of defeating Dracula was decades in the making and did not disappoint.
Games Bought
September was a digital games month. First we got Destiny 2: Forsaken (PS4), the massive new DLC for Bungie's multiplayer shooter. Then I picked up a couple of the Neptunia Vita remakes—Hyerdimension Neptunia ReBirth1 and Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth3: V Generation—during a PSN flash sale 'cause they were so darn cheap. Then the PS+ selection was interesting if not terribly remarkable. God of War III Remastered (PS4) was the big name game of the month but C.U.B.E.: Director's Cut (PS4/PS3), some sort of sci-fi spatial puzzle game, looks much more interesting. There was also Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition (PS4/PS3/Vita), a much lauded game I've managed to never play in the last, oh, 20th years. Perhaps I'll rectify that. We also got Foul Play (PS4), which is a goofy dramatic theater-themed brawler, and Sparkle 2 (PS4/PS3/Vita), a casual marble shooting game. I played a similar game back in college and quite enjoyed it. Hopefully this one is good as well.
Now Playing
-Destiny 2: Forsaken (PS4)
Spent a lot of time on this but I still have much to do. Not raid ready yet!
-The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind (Switch)
At 50+ hours I've finished two of the Divine Beasts and acquired the Master Sword (SO USEFUL!) but there is so much left to do. I haven't even uncovered the entire map yet! I'm having a grand time though.
-Alan Wake (360)
I got a jump on my spooky game for October and a good thing, too, as I'm only halfway through. I'm liking it though. This is definitely a game you play for the story.
It's not scary all the time but there have been some great creepy and tense moments
-Earth Defense Force 2025 (PS3) (PS+)
I've finished Normal and Hard with my Ranger. Working on Hardest co-op. Nearly have Normal finished by myself with the Wing Diver.
