Only the manliest of men wear kilts... My brother brough up wearing kilts for my wedding, of course this was way too close to the date to actually wear them. Somewhat hoping that whenever he gets married he will wear kilts.

Tomorrow it is May and that always brings the Ren Faire to Muskogee. It's time for me to get my nerd on! And my kilt as well...can't forget that. The two times of the year I wear it are for this event and the Scottish Games, which take place in September. That's more of a celebration of Scottish music, history, and culture. A gathering of the clans to remember our own roots.
It's usually so hot out there I can't go all full tilt Braveheart. The more tartan you wear the hotter it becomes! Some guys do the whole Scottish regalia, but once they drink a few beers live to regret it. At least I'm not alone in my kilt wearing at the Ren Fair. Lots of dudes running around showing some knee. Not all of them have a sword like mine though.
The place itself is very cool. It's a bunch of buildings they made up to look like a castle. Hence the name "The Castle In Muskogee" which also includes an entire medeival village and a jousting arena.
They really do it up with the jousting. The guys who put on the show are excellent at it.
The costumes you see are amazing. Some people rent gear to wear. But a lot make their own outfits and armor. It's tremendously geeky fun and always a blast to see folks enjoying.
Some of the areas have a theme to them. Like the Pirate's Cove, where scurvy dogs hang out.
The ladies love their corsets....and the men love looking at them wear them. Imagine that!
You get all types at our Ren Faire. Everything from fantasy to steampunk clothes. It's all okay.
Wenches! Is there anything better at the Ren Faire? Makes walking about in the heat so much nicer. Do any of you go to these events in your town?
What I'm listening to today..........
Love both of those songs. Dougie MacLean is playing up here sometime soon. Must remember to get tickets...
As for kilts - my friend Edmund is in the Canadian Army and has a regimental kilt in olive drab that he wears every so often at one of the gatherings we attend together, and my friend Chuck runs ultra marathons in a kilt. Kilts are sexy .
Have yet to go to a Ren Fest, but a lot of friends do every year. In fact, one of my friends appears to be in a kily in his photos lately himself. Speaking of which, cool sword, Smartcelt. Just don't get hammered and show everyone your ... sword! lol
I should go to one, looks like a lot of fun, but I have a bad habit of half assing costumes.
I'll have to post some pics of my other two swords and my Scottish things. I have a dagger as well. I finally found a proper belt buckle last year. Very Celtic and made of pewter. Unlike the Scottish Games, just about anyone should have fun at the Ren Faire. It's more about letting loose and acting silly.
