So let's jump right into..If you have a backlog of games, the question is how many games do you have backlogged??

I ask cause *gasp* I am almost at the end of my backlogged?? I have about 2 games and that is it!! Score for me!!

Now to be fair it was not that long but I had about 10 games or so!! That was about 4 months ago!

Now you ask how is it possible that you got your backlogged down??

Steps of how I do it!!

1. Duh!! Play them!!

2. Manage your time!! Depending on my situation I was maybe able to play 30 mins max a day! So I played a game where I can make little progress in the 30 mins I have. Knowing what games you can or can not saved helped me a lot. Let's say for example rpg's you may or may not have save points..So if i had 30 mins. I would avoid playing rpg's and instead play games that give you the ability to save anytime or anywhere..Or games that save frequently. At times rpg's may not give the ability to save frequently.

3. Cost!! Now here is one that helps me trim down the backlog!! And keep it from growing out of control!! The cost guys!! Sure I want to play tomb raider, bioshock infinite, halo 4, aliens colonial marines, dead space 3 and so on so on!! But I will not buy any new games unless the price drops!! How much you ask..For me the magic number is 20 dollars! If it is 20 dollars then that is when I am able to pick up a new game!  But you are asking how do i do it!!

Patience my friends. I do not see the point of let's say buying tomb raider for 60 dollars and then put it in your backlog..By the time you get to playing tomb raider..The game has had many sales where you can easily get it for 20 dollars??

So you paid 60 dollars for a game just to store it and say yeah i got it??? Yeah not me!! But I can't wait..Sure you can..How do I know when a game goes on sale?? There is sites that have this info..Maybe I can post deal blogs as well, to help some of the members on this great site get those deals!! Some local and some online..More online thou!!

4. Have a list, in your head or paper..or use a site to track down your games you got in your backlogged. Seeing the list gives you a idea on maybe you should stop buying and get to playing..But do not force yourself..These are games. They are made so you can relax and enjoy the spare time you have.

5 Games that may be in your backlog should NOT be in there. Itch games!

For example if I had contra for nes in the backlogged..Does it really need to be in there.. I mean i play contra maybe cause i get a itch to play the game...It is not really a game in my backlog where i am saying OK have to beat contra cause it is in the backlog.

Backlogs should be about games you want to get thru and not games you want to mess with. Again for me this is street fighter 2. At times i get a itch to play it..Now in my 30 mins of my gaming instead of making a little dent in my backlog I spend it throwing hadokens!! Hey i get a itch, so i scratch it!! But street fighter 2 is not in my backlog.. Take out what should be considered itch games!!

These are my keys to making a huge dent in your backlog! What do you think guys, got any questions?? Maybe something I did not cover?? Comment and ask away I promise I won't bite and try to answer as fast as I can!!

Thanks for reading my blog!

My backlog shockingly hasnt grown, I normally buy games with spare money I have that Ive been wanting since most are cheap used but with trying to save money so that I have enough gas to see my boyfriend between paychecks thats keeping me from buying but I think its a good thing, I still have a good deal of games to tackledown so taking a break from buying them will help with that. I need to save money out of each paycheck to begin with this so I have got a good start, so far, lol! Now there are some games Im buying in the coming months new but for now Im good. Im gonna try to knock a few down off the list this May.

Yes used is another option, but i happen to come across where getting new is cheaper than used! Hey good luck getting that backlog list minimized!

That's some good advice. I have a pretty massive backlog...something less than 300 games Surprised Some of those are itch-type games and so maybe they shouldn't be in there but right now it's just everything we have that I haven't played. The main reason it got so big was that my wife and I got a 360, PS3, and PSP over the course of about a year and a half (after having just a Wii) and we just kind of went nuts buying games because there were...are...so many good ones that are really cheap now. It's been probably about a year since we reigned ourselves in but the damage was done lol. But I started using Backloggery.com in January and have made some really good progress on that massive pile of games this year. Check out my Backloggery page here if you wanna see it.

Wow you sir have quite a list!! I would try to work one system at a time, and see how that works! Good to hear that you are making some progress. It feels good to knock out a list!

My backlog is currently 152 games. I don't know if I should count some of those though. Like Donkey Kong 3 on NES. Is it even possible to beat that game? Ever since I joined the backloggery, I've been doing a lot better. It's been about 2 months since I bought any new games. I wait till they are $20 too. $60 is way too much for a new game. Forget that!! Yell

I think dk3 is not beatable! Yes waiting for them to go 20 dollars is my key! I got gears of wars 3, zelda skyward sword, and max payne 3..All games I wanted to run to the store to pick up cause i am huge fan of the each series!! Man I am huge fan of max payne..so when 3 came out I was trying to convince myself that i deserve a reward to get a game at launch. Nope waited and actually got the limited edition that came with a statue, game and artwork for 20 bucks!! New!! That is when i am like oh yeah..Waiting for it to drop was so worth it!! That limited edition was worth 100 dollars when it came out and I got it for 20 bucks. OH YEAH!!

My backlog is easily in the hundreds.  My biggest problems are cost and time.  I don't buy many games at $60.  Most of the games I buy are under $20.  I am a cheap bastard.  I get games when there are deals.  I own GameStop's "Buy 2 Used and Get 1 Free" sales.  I probably get 6 games during those sales.  A few times I've gotten as many as 12!  When GameStop had a sale on PS2 games, I bought 20 games and it only cost me $4 and some change! Surprised  Most of the games I get off deals are added to my already high backlog.  Then there is the time problem.  I spent a lot of time playing my favorite games over & over again.  I lost count of the number of times I played through Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3.  I lose a lot of time playing my favorites over games I haven't played yet.  This is on top of the fact that I have a growing family and other responsibilities.  Funny thing is, it adds to me playing my favorite series more often. Laughing  Marriage with 4 kids and another on the way, sleep, work and other annoyances, are all time suckers in their own rights.  Sometimes it's a miracle I find the time to play Mass Effect. Laughing  Anyway, any of these things can be adjusted, but lately I just don't feel like dealing with it.

Some great points here, it's funny but you don't usually think of organisation in terms of gaming but it makes perfect sense. I ve had quite a back log myself in the handheld region but as I ve good oodles of spare time at the moment and no x box or Tv arrival yet I ve been steadily playing games I should have gotten round to sooner, so far on my PSP I ve blitzed both God of War installmets, played right through Metal Slug 1 and 2, hammering Soul Calibur and re-played Resident Evil 1 -3. To be honest I'm having a blast on this little gem of a console and I'm even more reluctant to shell out for a Vita at this point with all the fun I'm having on Sony's original!

Hey more power to you man, I would be doing the same..why upgrade if at the moment you are having fun and still enjoying the psp!! Keep it and get thru all the solid games on the psp.

Good points, although I have a relatively small backlog and a few of those games are either very near to completion (Majora's Mask, Spirit Tracks, basically outside boss door, but want to find rest of the masks in MM) and the others I just don't really want to play that much (Golden Sun)

Having a small backog is good, whenever there is a new game that you want to play now! Well having a small backlog allows to say screw the mini backlog let me get to the new and fresh game!!

I cleared out a good chunk of games when my ps3 died, so that is a good thing.  Of the games that I currently own.  I do know that a good portion of my unbeaten games I have little to no desire to finish, at this point.

So, the games that I do want to finish to my satisfaction is a fairly reasonable number.  Plus, it is nice that metro: last light and fuse are the only games that I really want coming out in the next 2 months.

Yeah that seems to help out as well..Losing one of the systems allows to jump to another system and get to playing!

Sam happend  to my ps3..When it was working i was playing it..But it died so i jumped on xbox and have not looked back..Even thou i want to get a ps3 to pick up some games that are only on the system!

Itch games- I hear ya on that note. If I might throw in another category- what I call Impulse games; reason is: you buy them on impulse, and then realize you don't really want to play the game in the first place.
Happens to me on occassion, and usually if I realize that a game is an 'Impulse' game, II just sell it/trade it in. Feel guilty for not playing it, but might as well get some value out of it in the end, even if it was a stupid purchase in the first place.

Yeah i have done that before..You got a good plan just in case you do buy the game..on a impulse buy! Just sell it and get the a good chunk of it back!!

I haven't updated my Backloggery page but it says for the PS3 I have 143 games in the backlog. I probably bought 20 more since then, and who knows how many PS+ games add to that list. I get everything super cheap, and maybe one or two games a year on release.

The main reason why I have a backlog is that I tend to play games for a little bit, get sidetracked and then return to a sports game and stick with that for months. I'm keeping the backlog to this generation of games because with the PS2/PS and to an extent PSP I would buy games I thought looked interesting and I have yet to get around to them.

Doing better than me. Lately I've went whole days without being able to play a single game at all! 30 minutes seems doable though. Maybe I'll put myself on the same regiment!

I have so many in my backlog it is just awful. You gave me some great tips here. Ones that could help me out some. I have finished a few in the past 2 weeks. I'm usually able to squeeze in about 2 hours a day,so it gets tough. I like your tip about the 20 dollar mark...that works! I need to be more patient,as these games are not going anywhere.

Thanks for reading my blog! Yeah that 20 dollars has helped me!! I have gotten games that are new for like under 20 dollars that are in my want list!! Yeah the games are not going nowhere!
