Quick Hits: I Almost Bought A New Laptop...

Yesterday I had a Quick Hits blog all typed up and ready to go, and I was in the middle of editing my photos when Photoshop was starting to act funny. It was starting to act up over the past couple of weeks but nothing too terrible but all of a sudden it was becoming almost impossible to use because of long load times. I then tried Illustrator and the same thing. I spent the next hour or so trying to figure out what was going on and then the major issue happened: Bridge refused to close. It was frustrating and this point I was ready to just call it a day and buy a new laptop. I was so frustrated and ready to go that I was basically almost out the door until I figured why not, and then I went back to the computer to try one more thing: re-install Windows. The last ditch effort.

An hour later the laptop was running well, like almost out of the box well. I installed my graphics programs, copied everything I needed from the second hard drive before reformatting it, and then a couple of restarts later everything was good. Now here’s the kicker, I installed Steam just to see if I could play games and well….I CAN PLAY GAMES AGAIN! Who knew it was a software issue that was blocking me from playing PC games. Since my laptop is running at 100% again I decided to take a new fresh approach to it like I would if I bought a new laptop.

-iTunes: I am starting over with iTunes. I’ve had the same library since my Macbook Pro and when I used AAC, some of my albums were ripped at 256 instead of 320. Thanks Apple. Now I’m going full on highest 320kbps MP3 files because it’s easier to share with people, and make MP3 discs (yeah I still do this). It sucks that I lost my play counts, ratings, grouping, and playlists, but I am happy I get a fresh start.

-The second hard drive that was home to a bunch of things will now just be a majority of the space going to iTunes, and the rest of it going to a couple of Steam games, and everything else. Before there was a lot of redundant stuff going on in my old setup, and now it is clean and streamlined.

The goal for this weekend is to continue to rip my CDs and watch football.

Chris Reads…

I finished a book!

01

I found this audiobook on my phone and apparently I synced it a while ago. I started on Monday and finished it by Thursday night. The book itself started off slow with the story of following recent Medical School graduate Thomas Wayne and an older Bruce Wayne as they both share the same storyline. Thomas is starting to get in with some sketchy people and situations and years later Bruce is trying to figure out why the events going on in Gotham have clues about his father, and what it has to do with Alfred and his father, Jarvis (apparently all crazy billionaires turned superheroes know a Jarvis).

It is a slow moving story with lots of jumping around between Thomas and Bruce but once it gets rolling it is a fun read.

Pickups!

Games

The only game I added to the library was the return of Paladins on the Switch. It took forever to install, and I had it install while I was watching the World Series.

Music

I made another stop at the local mom & pop shop and I didn’t have enough time because I showed up 20 minutes before they closed so no browsing through the $1.99 section but I did find some stuff including an album I really wanted but spent a little more than I would have liked.

02

I found an album in the $1.99 section.

03

This album replaces the LP that I sold at my garage sale. The LP was cool because it was an original but I wasn’t listening to it but at least now I have a CD copy that now lives in my new iTunes.

04

This replaces my digital only copy, and adds to my Wu Tang Clan collection.

05

I didn’t own this album. I have Blueprint, Blueprint 2.1, and 3. Now I have the full on two cd Blueprint 2.

And here is my big pickup that I spent $30 on,

06

07

Fleetwood Mac’s 25: The Chain. It is a collection of their stuff from their first 25 years. Think combo Greatest Hits, mixed in with some live stuff and demos, toss in a little picture book, and package it in a box and you’re good to go. The best part was that it was sealed! I love Fleetwood Mac and the closest I came to this set in the wild is the promo CD I bought awhile back that has highlights from this set. Of course I opened it, and replaced my digital copy of this set.

In total I spent close to $60 on CDs, which is way more than I usually spend (my cap is around $20) so I probably won’t buy any new music for at least a couple of weeks.

Hot Wheels

I was killing time while waiting for my WingStop order so I walked around the Walmart Neighborhood Market that shares the same shopping center and I found these cars

08

I found two more ZAMAC cars. These cars are not painted and I think they are only found at Walmart.

Yesterday while buying a new external DVD drive at my regular Walmart I found this

09

I’m opening the car with the creased card. More Batmobiles for my collection.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

I need to buy Rolling Stones stuff. There are certain songs of theirs I just love, like "Beast of Burden" and "Brown Sugar." Not so much "Satisfaction" or the more obvious hits save "Paint it Black."

I'd say buy their 40 Licks album. It's their greatest hits album, and find songs you like, find the album they came from, and give those a listen. There should be some good deep cuts.

I had my iTunes set at the default rip format of MPEG-4 and discovered later that I can't rip cds with that format. I changed the rip setting to MP3 but now, whenever I want to make a mix, I have to convert the old tracks to MP3. What a pain.

Yes it is, and that's why starting off fresh was the way to go. Sucks I lose the playcounts but a clean start and people won't question why the theme to the reboot of Star Trek and Game Of Thrones themes have over a 100 plays.

I meant M4a format, I discovered.

I used to sync my itunes with Last.FM so I could see and share play counts. That was really cool, but at some point it stopped working probably because of some update. Oh, and my iPod broke and so I'm back on CD mixes which is impossible to do play counts on. One day I'll get another ipod though. I love seeing stats on my listening.

Buy a cheap Android phone, like the ones that use the prepaid accounts. For a decent one that is running the lastest or close to the latest version of Android start at $50. Grab a 128gb Micro SD card, and then iSyncr and Rocket Player apps on Google Play for I think $13 total. Under $100 you have an Android music player that syncs to iTunes and updates playcounts.

That sounds like a good plan. I could put music on my current phone, I suppose. I might even have enough space for mixes because it came with a 15 GB SC card.

You should be good, just grab a bigger SD card and the two apps and you should be set.

I'm glad your computer is working better now.

It's a movie in your mind! :p

Thanks!

Haha, yup, the funny thing is they mention that at the end of every audiobook.
