I have nothing else to say, so here are my reactions to the first section of the most recent NWP podcast out of context:
By Bader Meinoff (Bernie Madoff? lol) Syndrome, did Mike mean Dunning-Kruger? Or did I hear that wrong?
A lot of what I'm hearing so far is people who are actually interested in learning something being more capable of learning it. Hmmm ... HMMMMMM ...
What school system did Mike grow up in? I definitely got the sanitized version of Christopher Columbus as well, and Catholic schools like the ones I attended weren't necessarily required to follow what the rest of the state did to the letter. And we learned PLENTY of wrong shit about Columbus. I really want to read that Lies My Teacher Taught Me book.
Wait, you don't know what Watergate is? There's a movie about that, dude (All The President's Men). Bob Woodward has written some shit, and while it's likely to have a skew, it's definitely not from Nixon's cabinet. lol
My former roommate is an archivist, and I concur with Mike's assertion about history being lost cause people "can't write." lol And, oh yeah, STEM is HUGE. SFASU, the university where I taught, just added a STEM building, despite their bread and butter being Nursing (STEM-related, yes, but already has its own building), Education, and Forestry.
I also agree with Julian's frustration with not being really told what math could be used for. I still distinctly remember a math textbook in high school that had little boxes dedicated to "real world applications" and was not super excited about the trajectory of a plane. It wasn't about how to get it off the ground, which would be an actual job, just measuring the trajectory once it was in the air. Ok? Cool?
I'm on board with most of the RPG idea, except the necessity of math being turn-based would still make me hate it.
Markiplier is actually a good human in real life from what I'm aware of, but Jesus Christ those complaints about YouTube is super accurate.
I'm just going to say that a lot of issues with Texas education have to do with the culture outside the classroom ... and leave it at that for now.
Who is that wrestler in the clip? lol
