100 Steam Games

After downloading Iris.Fall and GRIS, both of which I plan to review, I now have 100 games in my Steam library.

Being the paranoid person I am, despite knowing there are some games I've received as review copies, gifts, and Humble Bundle pack-ins, I was freaked out by this and thought "Wait, how much money did I spend?!"

Well, on first count, I "only" actually bought 50 games on Steam from December 2013 (my first purchases were Arkham Asylum and Fez if you're curious) up until now for which I have a Steam Store license. The rest I have either a Complimentary, Retail (the ones I had review copies for, like My Brother  Rabbit and Tormentum: Dark Sorrow are labeled Beta Tests, the rest I'm guessing are from Humble Bundle purchases), or Guest/Gift Pass license for.

The most money I've ever spent on a single Steam transaction is $59.10, which was done recently to get Assassin's Creed: Origins, Sunset Overdrive, DuckTales Remastered, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and Doom

The least I've ever spent on the Steam store for a single transaction is $1.99 for just Hotline Miami

Altogether, I've given Steam $369.08 over the course of 5 years.

That's about $31 a year, or $7.38 a game. I doubt my $5-10 Humble Bundle purchases would add much to those totals (hell, they might even lower the averages given how many games are included for Humble Bundle prices).

I find this fascinating.

My account is currently set to private, but I'm JimBeamHortonWho on Steam if you want to add me and see what games comprise my now 100-strong library.

31 bucks a year ain’t half bad. I haven’t bought any steam games for a while but I sure as hell spent a lotta cash on there!

It's about $2.58 a month. Not bad, but even then I could budget better considering how many of these games are just sitting there. Sealed

I've been keeping track of my Games with Gold freebies and the games that get added to backward compatibility, but I wonder why as of late. It's like over 200 games now in my Xbox One digital library. Then you add any Game Pass games I downloaded. I'm spending $15 a month between Game Pass and Gold membership on Xbox. I'm trying ot keep my spending to that right now.

So many games. I can't think about it anymore. I considered canceling my backloggery account where I keep track of all this today. Maybe I will, maybe I wont. It's all a blur to me - probably a waste of time to think about it.

Dear me, if I was active on Steam, it would another crazy pile of games. That and Good Old Games. I'd build up that site too, if I had the time.

I've more or less decided to not worry about the games I haven't played yet. They'll be there when I'm done with everything else.

Having said that, the amount of games I have for current gen platforms may keep me from buying new consoles going forward.

If PC gaming truly is cheaper in the long run, I may stick with it. We shall see.

Well, there's always that more power, better graphics pull with new consoles. I wish I could upgrade my Xbox and get a better tv too. All the games stay the same, just look better and run without problems.

You certainly get good deals on games on PC. I'd love to get back into it, but the upfront costs are a bit high, plus there are hardware upgrades to think about down the road. If I got into it again, I'd probably focus on smaller indie games, retro and stuff that isn't so performance demanding. There's plenty there to keep me busy.

Yay you got DuckTales Remastered!

I got a bunch of emails about GRIS.  Guess they really wanted me to review it.

I really should have asked for a review copy ... oh well, now my review will be from the perspective of someone who paid full price, so I can definitely say whether it's worth that or not.

I... uh... somehow have 700 games. Like exactly 700. I don't know where they came from. I don't know what they are. But they're there, staring at me, daring me to play them. And yet I just started up another Dark Souls character...

Once you get to the 100 mark it's a good idea to start properly separating them into different genres or you'll never find what you want.

Also, that's a damned good haul if I might say.

Thank you.

I think I'll keep it at 100 for now.

And that was exactly my reaction, like "where the fuck did all these games come from?" Now that I can actually see where, it makes sense I'd miss getting Complimentary items and there were several games in the Humble Bundles I wasn't really wanting.

Yeah Humble bundle and this site: https://www.fanatical.com/ are where a fair few of mine came from.

Umm, I'm somewhere close to 900... I dare not even look at what I spent between Humble Bundles and Steam itself. Actually, you know what, I'm doing it now, so thanks Joe. Will report back with my findings.

So on Steam itself, since Feb 21, 2009, I've spent a total of $240.82 on 71 purchases (many are bundles), but I'm not sure how many games that adds up to be. On Humble, I've spent $314.69 and that seems to cover about 80 purchases, all of which are bundles, surely making up the bulk of my library.

I know I've bought some bundles or games from other places here or there and that likely adds up to somewhere in the ballpark of $50, though I have no real concrete evidence for that.

Anything else in my library has been some sort of freebie, whether it's through PixlBit or sites giving Steam games away. That said, around $600 for almost 900 games seems pretty damn good. I don't mind having spent that money and I think I've gotten my value out of the spend, though I've yet to play so many of those games.

I've also found that I'll buy Humble bundles that have games I love and have played on console so that I have a license for them somewhere else and can play them in one easy place and don't need to play on outdated hardware. So there's a good bit of my library that I've just played on another platform.

Anyway, enough of that, welcome to the 3 digit Steam library club!

Haha thank you.

And yeah, I consider Humble Bundles a charity expense and I've certainly saved money relative to buying new games. I actually felt better about the money I'd spent after looking into it. Half of these aren't my fault and/or benefitted the greater good!

I just checked and I have 690 games (chuckles like a teen). I know I had quite a few duplicate licences from bundles that I gave away to family but man that's a lot of games. I bought more games from Fanatical than Steam so my stats in the Steam library are off but I am going to try and play those games.

It's good that for 60 bucks you got multiple solid games and $31 a year is really good. Here's to more review copies!

I'm AztecsAlum on Steam. When I power up Steam again later on I'll send a request over.

Never heard of Fanatical.

Cool. I'll either send you a request or accept yours, whichever comes first. Gotta get some stuff done before New Year's.
