Yet Another Damn Sale

Yeah, I don't want to look at how much I've spent on games in the last week or so. I've basically become my own Santa, but with a lot less impulse control than I imagine Santa to have.

At least GoodBudget tells me I'm still in the clear and I at least had an income since October, so I don't feel TOO guilty, but for PS4 I bought:

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition for $4.49 + tax. Tami seems to love it and it's been compared to Yakuza, which let's face it, is all I really need (even if I personally wasn't all that big a fan of The Fist of the North Star demo; the world just didn't appeal to me).

Speaking of Yakuza, I also bought Shenmue I & II as a sort of Yakuza history lesson for myself. I'm aware these won't be as engaging as Yakuza, but as big a fan I am of that franchise, I don't mind owning a related museum piece with two games for $19.79 + tax.

I finally got Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 on Patrick's recommendation for $15.99 + tax. I kept overlooking it when it would go on sale because I already own Xrd and was thinking I'd pick up Dragon Ball FighterZ instead, but I'm just a bigger Guilty Gear fan and I look forward to all the added content.

I bought Heavy Rain for $11.99+tax because while my best friend hates it and returned his PS3 copy to Game X Change a while ago, I think I can eventually get past the awkward amount of buttons the game wants you to hold down and actually play through the story instead of just streaming a Let's Play of it from SomehtingAwful.

Last is LEGO Harry Potter Collection, because I always buy LEGO games on sale and for $5.99+tax, two games with 7 books or 8 movies worth of references felt like a good bargain.

The total was $63.06.

I've paid the equivalent of roughly 2.5-3 new games this Christmas and received like 15 or so games, so I guess I'm doing something right ... as long as I actually play these.

I haven’t played much of Sleeping a Dogs but what I did was cool.  I’m gonna get the definitive version eventually.

At $5, I thought now was a good time to snag it. Those past-tense words make my sentence gramatically incorrect. I'm leaving it, but I want you to know that I know. It would have taken much less time to just replace the past-tense words with present- tense words, but I wanted you to know that I know about grammar.

But now I'm starting to question myself. Maybe what I initially wrote is just fine. I wish not to look it up. It might ruin me.

Thank you, kind stranger, for nothing and everything at once.

I want to change the song "I'm My Own Grandpa" to "I'm My Own Santa". ha ha

Goodbudget looks interesting, but I think I'm already hyper aware of my spending. It's always too much. I work on altering my feelings of need to make it less. Can an app do that?

I saw so many Lego games with prices under $10 the other day on Xbox. In a better economic state, I'd have bought them all.

I looked the song up and YouTube has a video with a family diagram in it. Funny.

An app? Maybe. What I do is try and remind myself I rented about as many games for similar prices to what I buy them for now, and instead of thinking of it as "Mount Backlog," it's a Blockbuster store I can visit any time I want ...

... And reading that again, you're talking about spending, not completing a backlog. Maybe try Habitica and wait until you've completed real life goals before buying any new games?

Yeah, LEGO games go on sale for like $5 all the time, to the point I can't imagine getting one at full price ... I wonder how that company is holding up or if parents still buy those for their kids at full price.

I used to study the Billboards hits charts including the novelty hits. It introduced me to a lot of funny songs.

Thing is, I've tried to make myself follow various game plans, but when I'm forcing myself to play something, even if I like the game, I kind of lose interest.

Lego's still huge. There are conventions, and I think I saw Lego The Movie 2 coming next year.

I mean my point with the backlog thing was you don't have to play those games. Yeah, it's a bit of a waste of money, but have you been happy with every restaurant meal you shit out over the same weekend? I know exactly what you mean by not liking a game you "have" to play.

Oh, LEGO the brand will live forever, probably. I meant specifically the video games.

Ha ha. The possession of the game is enjoyment enough. Although, I don't enjoy digital buys like I do physical ones.

I think I saw another Lego game coming in 2019. I forget which one.

That reminds me. I should really build a bookcase or something for all my physical games.

Hey you did an excellent job, getting several games for the price of 1 game is the best. Now to work on them next year!

Being an adult = being your own Santa. Truth.

I watched my wife play through Sleeping Dogs on the 360 when it first came out. It's got a great story. Combat, if I remember right, is more akin to the Arkham games than Yakuza. You should have a good time with it.

That actually sounds like a great mix ... as big a fan as I am of Yakuza, I can't say I ever REALLY clicked with the combat system fully. Yakuza for me is a franchise whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
