Chris Plays Games, And Can't Find Vita Games

Last weekend I was ready to sit down and tackle some Vita games I haven’t finished yet and well I had no idea where I placed my little plastic case of Vita carts. The one time I actually I wanted to play and no dice. Instead I stuck with the games that were installed on the dang thing as well as Madden 13, a game that surprisingly I did not finish. Let’s start there

Madden 13 - Vita: When I bought this game I want to say maybe in 2014 to use along with my PS3 copy, you could import your Franchise from one and continue it on the other. I think this was available on the PSP in previous games but I’m not sure. I do know there was some Ultimate Uber Pack of cards you could unlock if you owned both the PS3, and Vita versions (never used it). Going back to my game I started a new Franchise with I thought was the worst team in the game, the Indianapolis Colts. I skipped preseason and I was going to do a Raiders-like fire sale and trade away players to stockpile draft picks, and sim the first season, but I realized I still have Reggie Wayne, and a rooke named Andrew Luck. A serviceable running back, and ok defense. This might be fun and in the first game the Colts survived a game in Chicago. I’ll stick with this team for a bit.

Fight Night - Vita: I started a new boxer career because I got tired of the old one and my new boxer is named Thor O’Malley. I do like this part of the game where you can make the character as silly/odd/funny as you want. He’s a welterweight so I can build up his power and then proceed to knock the crap out of the opposing boxers, since they’re mainly focused on speed. Thor’s nickname is The Warrior and currently he is 17-0, and has never seen the third round. I don’t think I will move him up and down between weight classes.

So I started playing this game on the iPad last week. It was mentioned on Reddit and you really can’t go wrong with a game that is free on the iPad that isn’t about the In App Purchases. At first glance the game is freaking beautiful. Just having the combination of Chinese art with what I call classic Chinese instrumentals, this game is already a winner

So the point of this game is that you are this character, I believe a monk who meets up with an interesting character, a boy with a tail, and then they set out to explore their world. There really isn’t much control to the game, you tap the screen in the direction to move the characters, tap items to pick them up and place them into your inventory, and drag items from inventory to the screen to use them. There is no voice acting and all communication is done through text on the screen.

This simplicity combined with the audio and visuals make one heck of a casual gaming experience. A little thing I like is that when you tilt the iPad the game’s background moves to reveal a little more of the environment.

There are some little funky quirks, one of them being is navigation. Sometimes it works well and other times it’s a little frustrating. One section is you’re supposed to follow the master outside but once outside I had nowhere to go, and then my character got stuck. Other than that I have encountered no other problems.

Ink, Mountains and Mystery is a game that is best experienced with headphones, and played in extended game time. It can be played in short bursts but I feel you don’t get lost in the game if you approach it this way.

Alright Pixlpeeps, I am off, have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

Oh, if I had an iPhone or iPad that could actually run Ink, I'd be all over it.

It's a good game. I'm running the first iPad Air and it's doing fine.

That Ink game looks pretty neat.  Is it relatively new?

Too bad the Vita kind of pooped out real quick.  I should've gotten mine earlier.  It's a shame since the PSP that came before it was so good.  My favorite Vita games are Tearaway, Gravity Rush, and Ys: Memories of Celceta.

I think it is fairly new, because the good people of Reddit said to give it a try, and they usually are onto the latest games.

I think that Sony really pushes their proprietary storage for the Vita and that is what ultimately killed it. The hardware was really nice, and the games were good but who wants to spend around $100 for 64GB of storage when an SD card at the same price was I think $40 at the time. It's a shame really because it seems like just like the PSP the Vita has a strong homebrew community.

Yea that proprietary memory was really a bad idea. I never upgraded because of that and so I couldn't put a lot of games on it. I would've bought more games with normal priced memory. What were they thinking?

Your Vita games ran off!

They did. Once I switch to another game they will show up like nothing happened.

Those Vita carts are small. I love the boxes they came in though. Nice size there. I wish I still had mine. One day I'll build the library again.

I wonder if you can do what people did on PSP with Vita. Hack it and add a lot of roms to it. It's a fantastic piece of tech. Should be used for something.
