I keep hearing how hilarious game night is and it keeps flying under my radar.
Quick Hits: Movies, Books, And Hot Chocolate

Saturday and Sunday I try to wake up a little later than usual but for some odd reason I was up at my normal time. I don’t know what it is, but I was up, and I started planning out my weekend before I dove into another book. Anyways here I am a couple of hours later catching you good people up with my what I am doing before I head out to the local library to see what new offerings they have in their little store, before I check out the thrift stores down the street from the library and see what new CDs they have because I’m always on the lookout for more music to add to the library.
Before we begin I’ve been in Hot Chocolate mode. Since the weather has hit California Cold (50°-60°, rain and some fog) it has been go time for me and hot chocolate.
I went full Starbucks Barista on it with marshmallows and whip cream not realizing that when the whip melts, and it will, the damn thing will overflow. I have since fixed this by using the bigger latte mugs, the ones I call soup bowls with handles.
Chris Reads…
This week I knocked out three books, technically two because the DC Comics audiobook was split into two parts, but Goodreads counts it as two separate books so I will as well (I’m so padding stats).
Infinite Crisis Part 1
Infinite Crisis Part 2
Animal Farm
I’ve been saving Infinite Crisis because I wanted to read the other superhero stories that lead up to it so I can get an idea of who the other superheroes are other than the big 3. Thanks to what I’ve watched on the CW, and reading the other stories the whole concept of multiple Earths wasn’t as wacky as it would have been and overall it was a good story. This would also make for one killer animated movie. Coming out of this I’m more interested to read about the Green Lanterns and their back story. The Flash I’m still indifferent on, and Superman has become more interesting. I’m still Team Batman, but I get the appeal of Superman.
Animal Farm came as a suggestion from a friend and thought I would enjoy it. It’s short but good and I wonder why I didn’t read this in high school. I liked it, and after a bit I thought their little tune was catchy.
In my Tom Clancy book I’m two hours in and we are at the point where the head of the battle, Norman Schwarzkopf is about to head to Camp David to fill the president in on their plan of attack.
Chris Watches…
Since I’m really late when it comes to watching movies, I finally saw three flicks that were released a couple of years ago: Pitch Perfect 3, Game Night, and Oceans 8.
PP3: For the previous two I bought the soundtracks before watching the movies, but for this one I didn’t. I figured it would be more of the same, and it was but now the Bellas have left college, were stuck in a rut and got into a USO tour. Crazy things happen, people sing, and in the end well you kind of get the idea. During the movie I ordered the soundtrack and it should be in my mailbox by Sunday (Thanks Amazon!)
Game Night: This movie really didn’t jump out at me as a must watch, but I’m glad I did watch because it is freaking hilarious. There was action but the comedy didn’t slow it down, and it added to the story. I don’t think I laughed that much at a movie in a long time.
Oceans 8: I’m not a fan of the Ghostbusters remake, and I was hoping this was not going to be like that film, and it wasn’t. Oceans was a little corny at times, and it followed a lot of the beats from Oceans 11 (out of prison, plans for a heist, assembling a crew, catchy music, quick cuts, the swerve, etc) but it was a solid movie. Heck I think it was better than Oceans 13.
NXT UK: Takeover - WWE Network: I didn’t watch this live because watching live wrestling at 7 or 8am is a little odd for me, so I watched it in the afternoon. It was a typical NXT Takeover where all the matches were solid and entertaining unlike the main roster, and the fans were chanting away. It was a good pay per view. The only thing that bothered me was during the third match the Network wanted me to watch the pre-show so it brought up the switch screen with a countdown. The first time I missed it and it started airing the pre-show. 10 minutes of trying to fast forward and find my original spot it tried doing it again but I caught it and the show kept moving. Hopefully next week’s Royal Rumble will be good but I don’t have my hopes up.
In regular TV watching, Celebrity Big Brother is coming back on Monday and I can’t wait. It will fill time before the next Challenge starts in February. I’ve also been watching Lindsay Lohan Beach Club on MTV where Lindsay (MTV) picked randoms from the US, to work at her Beach Club in Greece. Of course they follow the old school Real World casting (watch any two Real World’s and you can see the template of who they want). It’s like The Challenge except you take the competition out and all it is 24/7 House Drama.
PIckups
Games
I saw this last night, it looked interesting and I used my Nintendo Coins to get Startide for free
From what I read it sounds like Shoot’em up with Mechs. Sounds like a fine portable game and something to play during Portable Weekend.
Music
You all read that I bought the Pitch Perfect 3 Soundtrack. It’ll be here Sunday. I also bought small replacement tips for my IEM’s. I figure I loose the damn things quite easily so I bought 10 pairs as replacements and if I ever want to try more of the very inexpensive but very good sounding Chinese Hi-Fi IEM’s.
Toys
I swore off Hot Wheels but my cousin found these two sitting on pegs at Walmart and I wanted to open them up and place them next to that ship from Guardians of the Galaxy (I’ll eventually watch this flick)
Someone’s going to make “pew pew pew” sounds when these two dog fight in space.
Alright Pixlpeeps I am off, I finished my hot chocolate, the library just opened and I need to do some quick photo editing and upload this. Have a good weekend!
That’s all for now, more later!
