This past weekend I went to San Antonio for PAX South. I wrote an article about it as well, so please check that out at GamerDad.com as well as some other game reviews I’ve written there recently. Please click on the links in this blog and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. Ok let’s begin!
As per usual at these shows, I meet with a lot of PR professionals and game developers, play their games and write about them, and take lots of pictures. So if you read only one article from this batch, please make it this one. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions in the comments section.
Pinball FX3: Williams Pinball Volume 2 (PS4)
Zen Pinball has done their best pinball yet, tables based on classic Williams machines. The first volume had more recognizable titles (don’t know how I missed reviewing that one). Attack From Mars is the only table I remember from volume 2. Hopefully they’ll do more of these in future volumes. I’d like to see a set of all three PinBot tables, as well as my favorite pinball machine of all time: Cirqus Voltaire. What’s your favorite?
In college I took a children’s literature class and had to read a lot of kids’ books. But I’ve never heard of one called Storm Boy. But apparently they made a movie about it so I guess I just passed by it. Anyway, this is more of an interactive story book than a game, and while it’s short and easy, it’s still charming and kind of cool they put it on consoles, since usually this sort of thing only finds itself on mobile devices. This game is also so easy to get all the trophies for on the PS4. In fact, it’s the very first game I’ve gotten a Platinum Trophy for! Yeah I know that’s not saying much, but let me have my little victories. So if you want to get an easy Platinum Trophy, here’s one for you!
This one kind of took me by surprise. I didn’t know about it, but I saw it on GameStop’s web site as an exclusive so I snatched it up. It’s a figure of a “Loot Goblin” but since I don’t play Diablo that’s all I can tell you.
And next is an amiibo three pack of the Octolings from Splatoon 2. The first thing I noticed is how BRIGHT PINK they are. They could’ve been promoting breast cancer, they’re so pink. I also like how the Octolings are holding different ink weapons besides the guns. I didn’t get the Octo Expansion Pack DLC because it was 20 bucks and I hear it’s very hard.
In real life I work at the plumbing department of a major hardware store chain. Yeah, I know, a plumber just like Mario. Although I really prefer Luigi. Anyway, since I’m around pipes all day, you’d think I wouldn’t want to review a game about them. But I like block pushing puzzle games like Adventures of Lolo as well as puzzle games like Pipe Dream and this is a combination of that. Unfortunately the learning curve is super steep so it was hard for me to sink my teeth into it.
Stardust Galaxy Warriors: Stellar Climax (Switch)
Last is just a 2-D horizontally scrolling shooter. Nothing special about it, but it’s just some simple fun and has some rockin’ tunes, so I still liked it. Pretty cool title, too.
And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading and posting ‘likes’ and comments on my reviews! I really appreciate it! Later! --Cary
I love those Artovision shadowboxes. I'll take Dragon's Lair please.
My favorite pinball is Seawitch but it's by Stern. I like the Williams tables too though. I might go for these since I like authentic tables.
The loot goblin amiibo might just be a must-have for me. I wonder what games use it on 3DS?
I like those Artovision shadow boxes, too, but at 120 bucks a pop, they're a little out of my price range. They were really nicely made, so I'm sure they're worth that much, but again, still out of my price range.
You know what amazes me is that Stern still makes pinball tables! They made a Deadpool table just last year!
The Loot Goblin amiibo may be hard to get because it's a GameStop exclusive. I doubt it does anything specific for any 3DS game. It probaby works like any other amiibo that can get you random stuff depending on the game.
Thanks for reading!
Yeah there's nothing really special about Stardust Galaxy Warriors that makes it stand out, it's just a fun little unassuming simple little shooter.
If you want to play a really good, albeit short game on the Switch, try GRIS. I just finished it and am about to write my review of it.
