Blog a Day #4

Hello everyone, how are you? The Wii U, probably the most misunderstood Nintendo console. It's a shame that it never really took off. But I guess mistakes were made and they used that to build the Switch. But believe it or not I'm still missing a number of Wii U games. I would like to get these soon before they go out of print. Like...

Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games: Even typing this is a mouthful. I swear the names of these games get longer with each entry. The first Mario and Sonic game was fun, but the second one took it to the next level. That one was a major improvement. I always loved the Winter Olympic versions of these games because some of the events tend to be more extreme I guess? Like snowboarding. Honestly, all the winter events are really cool. I really like the Olympics, I don't always have a chance to see them all but I try to catch up with what I can. I actually put a lot of hours into the Winter Olympics game on the Wii. It was really fun. This one being on the Wii U should have increased performance and obviously look better.

Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games: Okay, the title for this one is shorter, slightly. But that still doesn't make it any better. This one is based on the Rio Olypics and this one added new characters, most notably Rosalina. This is the 5th one in the series and I think by then people were already tired of these games. This game is really hard to come by, maybe they didn't make enough copies. Honestly I really want the game to play as Rosalina. These games aren't the best games out there, but I find them really fun, especially with more people.

Need for Speed Most Wanted U

Need for Speed Most Wanted U: An enhanced port of the 2012 game. This game is actually the pc version of it and it is in fact the definitive console version of the game. Imagine that. It had a number of new features exclusive to this version but it unfortunately didn't set the world on fire. Here's a fun fact for you: I own 2 versions of this game, the PS3 and the PSVita version but they are both the digital versions. I don't own it as a physical game so this would be my first time buying a physical version. Plus I would love to see how the online is since who knows for how long Nintendo plans to keep the servers up for the Wii U.

 Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: You should all be familiar with this game. It was the 2017 Game of the Year pretty much everywhere with universal acclaim. I have it on the Switch and you might be wondering why in the world would I need it on the Wii U? Well to be honest, I don't know? I would love to play it on there and I'm no stranger to owning multiple copies of the same game. I do own 3 different versions of Twilight Princess. But yeah, I would love to own the Wii U's last best game, maybe before it goes up in price in the future since something tells me Nintendo didn't really care for this version and didn't make enough copies.

Paper Mario Color Splash

Paper Mario: Color Splash: Pretty much the most recent Paper Mario game, unless you count Mario and Luigi Paper Jam. Often referred to as Sticker Star HD, I heard Sticker Star is the worst of the Paper Mario games. I haven't tried it myself so I can't really compare the 2. Color Splash looks pretty from the trailers and some people claim the story is good. But one thing that does worry me is that the battle system is broken. Not to the point where you can exploit it, but if you don't have the right cards for a fight then you are pretty much screwed. That and it uses the Wii U gamepad. I wish most Wii U games gave you the option to use the Wii U Pro Controller. That controller wasn't cheap. But yeah, this is my high priority on games to get on the Wii U.

And those are all the Wii U games I still need to buy. Chances are there might be 1 or 2 games I missed, I don't know. I know the Wii U wasn't the best console out there but it had some great games on it. Are there any games you still need to get? Thanks for reading and...

I had a ton of fun with Most Wanted U back then. I think Color Splash, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions are the only Wii U games left for me to get.

I played the first Sonic & Mario Olympic game on the Wii and thought it wasn't very good, so I never messed with any of the sequels.  Did you know there is an arcade version?

Color Splash is slightly better than Sticker Star, but not by much.

Sticker Star was basically an adventure game with pointless RPG battles. You did not gain experience points from fighting so there was literally no reason to fight and I quickly started avoiding all combat. The boss battles were like puzzles, though, and were pretty fun. I skipped on Color Splash. It would have to be a really good price for me to get it. I'd like to get Tokyo Mirage Sessions, though.

I was just looking at Wii-U games the other day and seriously considered Color Splash. I have to be careful with money but eventually I'll dig in and beef up my Wii-U collection.

I almost picked up Color Splash the other day but then I remembered the 30 or more Wii U games I bought and didn't play.

Color Splash looks good, but I haven’t touched my Wii U in a LONG time.
