Community Poll #1

On 05/02/2013 at 08:29 AM by Chris Yarger

I had an idea a while ago that I’ve been throwing around, and I think I’m going to roll with it.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing a weekly poll within the community, just to get people talking about different experiences they’ve had in gaming or just general game-related experiences. I wasn’t exactly sure for of how I was going to go about this, then after my last Blog I realized that utilizing a Blog in general would be great so people could read through the comments and offer their own opinions and experiences!

I’ll keep these entries short and sweet, and let you all (The amazing community members!) contribute in your own way. Of course, I’ll be reading and putting in my own thoughts, but please don’t expect me to respond to EVERY comment. This is mostly for the community figures to engage with one another, even though most of you do on a daily basis anyway. I’m just offering something different to get people talking and having fun!

I’ll try to do this at LEAST once a week, maybe twice a week. I don’t know, we’ll see how peppy I feel. But at least a once a week guarantee!

Also, make sure you Follow me so you don’t miss any polls!

So let’s get this started already!!

Who was the toughest boss you’ve ever fought, and why were they so difficult? Also; did you ever beat the boss?

The toughest boss that I have ever beat was Dracula in Super Castlevania IV. This fight takes flawless timing and patients and a little luck because he likes to  randomly teleport , sometime right on top of you. After many attempts over about a month or two I sat down one Sunday afternoon determined to beat him. Took more tries than a can count and about 2 hours but I finaly got him.

Toughest boss or bosses I should say that I have yet to beat would be Ruby and Emerald weapons in Final Fantasy VII. Emerald has a time limit and Ruby pretty much forces you to fight him with a single party member, he will always knock  your other two guys out and keep knocking them out if you try and revive them.

The toughest boss I've beaten is the final boss of Metroid Prime 2. There's an optional weapon at the end of the game that you're supposed to find before the final boss because it's made specifically for that fight. Well, I missed it somehow and didn't even know it. That fight was brutal! I played it again and again and again. I'm normally a fairly calm and reserved person but when I finally conquered that boss I jumped up off the sofa yelling Yell

Not sure what I'd say the hardest boss I've ever come across is. I never did beat Henry Hatsworth though. That final boss was just too hard.

hmmm good question.  I've fought a lot of bosses, but I don't know which one was the toughest.  the most epic was Gannondorf in OoT, but that was easy.  There were some in Revenge of Shinobi that were tough too.  The one that made me rage quit more than any other though was the final boss in Rygar.  I played all day to get there, and when I fought it I just didn't have the spirit to try anymore.

There's some tough bosses in Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) and Ninja Gaiden 2 that I had a hard time with, but I finally bested them, the bastards.

This is one heck of a question.  I'm going to do my best to answer it, though, despite having thirty years of gaming experiences to draw from.  I would have to say the toughest boss I ever faced was the second Fabricator fight from Bionic Commando Rearmed during my Super Hard playthrough.  This fight was particularly tough because of all the junk that was stacked against me.  Spencer could only take two, maybe three, hits before dying; Losing all your lives returned you to the start of the incredibly brutal Furnace level; The boss itself had a nasty series of attacks and a hard-to-hit weak point.  The fight was so nerve wracking and the stakes were so high, and it took me dozens of tries before I got it right.  Mercifully, the remaining bosses in the game were not as difficult (the stages were still brutal, though).

The Fabricator attacks by randomly firing one of seven control arms at you, three in a row.  Before they fire they light up, which gives you a chance to locate it and deflect it with your Bionic arm.  If you get hit at any point in the sequence, it resets and you have to block three more.  Once you've successfully blocked the arms, the machine has to recharge which gives you a chance to counterattack.  That's easier said than done, though, because the arms come out incredibly fast and it can be difficult to spot which ones are going to fire.  Other times you'll fire your arm in the wrong direction, take the hit, and be one step closer to death.

All in all, it's a rough fight and one I'm not eager to replay.

I think one of the hardest bosses I ever faced was probably Death in the original Castlevania. Those scythes were just so hard to avoid at times.

I also have to give props to Sephiroth in the Kingdom Hearts games. He was insane!

Eh, Sephy dosen't count because he was optional. In the first game though, he was mind-numbingly insanely b*tch hard. In KH2 I think they toned him down a bit, but I only beat him after grinding to about lvl 80 and stocking up on a buttload of elixirs.

The last boss from Double Dragon 3 on NES is a super biatch from the depths of hell! Her attacks aren't really that difficult, it's just that she has SO MUCH freaking life and teleports randomly all over the place. I've only managed to beat her twice in my whole life. Those were happy days indeed even if the ending wasn't that great lol.

I didn't think beating her was possible! My cousin and I tried for a solid couple of weeks and got to the point where we could get through the entire game almost flawlessly, but then broke against her like waves against a rock wall.

But she saved my life. My dad was going out to take some friends on a drive and asked if we wanted to go but we declined, because we wanted to beat Double Dragon 3. He got sideswiped, and when they towed the car home I saw the damage. Either me or my cousin would have died or been seriously injured in that wreck. The left rear door was completely caved in, and one of us would have been sitting there.

That's crazy! Thankfully nobody got hurt. I never would have thought that crappy game would save some people's lives. If I ever fight her again I'll remember that.

I definitely know what you mean about performing flawlessly only to inevitably die at her. I've made it to her countless times and only beaten her twice. I'm not sure how I beat her really. Probably sheer luck lol. It's possible though.

Oh lord...there is no one boss for me that was the toughest haha. I usually die and have a touch time with a lot of boss battles. If I had to pick one that stands out the most it was in FF XIII when you fight the guy at the end of chapter 10 and he casts death on you and has a gagillion hp it seems like. For some reason he gave me a lot of greif. I eventually beat him after about ten attempts!

Are you talking about Hecatonchier? I think that boss took me a couple of months to beat. :P

Yes! That guy! Haha thanks for letting my know his name! I never remembered it (and was too lazy to look it up) but probably because he brought so much rage to me in a tiny amount of time lol

Jak II, final boss.  I had smashed a controller to bits earlier in the game, so i was already frustrated by that point.  I think that I spent a good 2 hours or more fighting the final boss.  I probably died a good 2 dozen or so times, but eventually beat it.

Metal Kor was truly a pain in the a$$... seriously though, I remember him taking forever to beat and constantly bombarding you with smaller baddies to kill. Great game, difficult final battle.

I remember Super Star Wars having a lot of hard boss fights but the one that annoyed me the most was the second boss Lava Beast. Specifically it was having to balance on a tiny platform and trying to dodge flame centipedes jumping up through the lava trying to knock you off. You touch the lava and it's game over.

The boss giant furball thing in Ratchet & Clank 2, i never got past it and i haven't bothered to play it since. FF6 when the land mass with the triad and that boss with ridiculous HP before the world breaks, it took months to beat :(

This is a good idea, I'll be looking forward to them every time you post them. As for boss fights, tbh I'm not sure I ever gone against bosses that were brutal to beat. But the final boss fight in Windwaker has to be the most epic one ever, the fight was cool but the finishing blow is what makes it the best one ever to me. Really, any boss fight that has a huge towering monster and wondering how to beat it is always awesome. Also the Mister Freeze bossfight in Arkham City was so awesome.

OK, shameful secret that some of you already know but I never beat Sephiroth in FF VII.

I got to the final battle once and fought for what seemed like hours until I realized it was 3:30 AM and I had to get up for work at 7:00. I shut the game off without finishing the battle. Of course I didn't bother with the Chocobo farming and I never got Knights of the Round. I've played again a few times and never got close to the end before quitting.

There are three games that I have not been able to beat the final boss: Rocket Knight Adventures, Dragon Quest VIII's optional new game + boss (I really want that alternate ending!), and FF V. As for toughest boss I've beaten, I have absolutely no idea. I just remember the ones that got the best of me!

I think the end boss from Minish Cap gave me a hard tme, but eventually, I was fine. Just need to know his patterns. And then of course, every time after the first, he was easy, cause my nerves were gone.

There's a lizard boss at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 that's a real asshole as well. Stupid bubbles. Beat him too, though.

I remember my first playthrough of Final Fantasy 9 when I was really young. I had a bitching time with the final 2 bosses Kuja and Necron. These were the days before I learned that you need to have a plan to take down bosses, I normally was the type to go in swinging without thinking. However these 2 changed that severally. I now normally have a plan when it comes to a boss fight.

The final battle against Robotnick/Eggman on Sonic & Knuckles (using Sonic). It's the only (so far) Genesis Sonic games that I made it to the last stage and I maybe it's probably due to some loss of rings early in the level and being late, but seriously, you need to have lots of rings and a lot of time so you can have a battle or else you die of time running out. Okay, that's more with the level, but when you actually confront him, it's still a hard battle, due to, as I remember, having fast attacks and one hit that no mather if you have rings, it will kill you. To this day I still haven't beat him.

On a hard boss I had beaten, Taboo of Smash Bros. Brawl. Lots of attacks with high percent damage and not paying atrention can cost you the battle. It's always a miracle when I beat him the few times on the boss battle mode.

For me it would have to be the final boss battles in Final Fantasy VII. Even after leveling up all my characters and doing everything I could,it was still too tough for me. Never finished that game due to my frustration with them.

For me it would be Magneto for X-men: Children of the Atom way back in the day (before I even knew basic fighting game mechanics).
