Mysteries of the BaD - Pitfall 2

When I was a kid, one of the most mesmerizing and frustrating games I played was Pitfall 2. I don't remember if I played it on a PC or an Apple computer at the time, but after school I would start it and play it for hours. I never beat it...it's insanely difficult, and I still wonder if it CAN be beaten, and what happens when you do.

It's a pretty forgotten game now, but Retro Gamer Magazine listed it #1 in the 25 best Atari 2600 games...which is kind of insane. Otherwise, no one ever talks about this game that I know of.

But for a while, until I finally gave up or another game came along - the mysteries of this game totally obsessed me.

It can be beat.

Also they made an arcade version.

Aliens. That's the only conclusion we can reach.

I never played PItfall 2 until it was on the Activision Anthology collection on PS2.  Have you ever played that collection?  It rivals the PSOne Namco Museums as far as quality and presentation value is concerned.

I remember having the Activision Anthology, but I don't recall my time spent with Pitfall 2. I' pretty sure I did try it though.

I remember playing the first Pitfall on an Activision collection for PS1. Yeah, I never finished that either lol.

I can see why it's so high up that list. This is the closest to an NES game I've seen an Atari game be ...

That screenshot is from the C64 version. But the 2600 version doesn’t look too bad either.

I was meaning more in terms of gameplay but it does look good for an Atari game.

Yeah that surprises me too, I would have thought it came out for a later Atari.

Oh man, this exists! I have the console game on some collection and probably tried it. I wonder if the arcade version is there too. Gonna have to check.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a recent version of this game either on console or mobile. It seems like a perfect game for mobile because of gameplay.

I played the Adventurer's Edition of Pitfall II on Atari 8-bit. The second cavern was brutal.

The whole game is brutal when you’re a kid!
