Last night I mentioned we were planning to play the Psychonauts VR game. We ended up going for it towards the end of the night and I'd like to report back that it was pretty fun! You look around the environment via the head tracking capabilities of the headset and then perform functions on the thing you're focusing on. Using your various abilties you'll need to solve puzzles to progress.

Like the original Psychonauts, jumping into people's minds is a big part of the gameplay here. Basically you'll jump from character to character to look around the world because you can't walk around like in other VR games. It's almost like a 3D point-and-click adventure, except you feel immersed in the environment because of the whole VR set-up.

With almost all of these VR games, it's impressive how well it immerses you in the world it's portraying. Because you're cut off from the real world, it's easy to pick up the vibe of whatever world you've entered.

Other than those musings, work was a little more chill today, so I'm thankful for that. But regardless, I'm still pretty tired thanks to the circumstances there. Being that I'm finally sitting down for the day, I'm going to wrap this entry up for the day. See you tomorrow!

Apparently, from various scif shows and other games I've played, this VR thing will be the primary way we relax and escape the real world. I'm resisting the idea in my mind right now, but an IP like Psychonauts could get me into it.

I don't find VR very relaxing. It's cool for sure, but it feels very restrictive right now with the headset. It's going to need to come a long way before that's the case.

While I have a warmer opinion of VR than before I tried it, I still firmly believe it's a novelty. I'd still prefer to play games sans a head set while casually sitting on my couch. I like that it enables new experiences, but it's an augmentation of gaming options, not a replacement for what's there now.

The headset needs to be like sunglasses to really take off. Maybe some sort of augmented reality addtion to normal gaming might work. Someone was making smart glasses recently. I wonder what's up with that technology.

Dang...I still have Psyconauts sitting on my PC from that Humble Bundle I purchased at least 3 years ago. I really need to get on that- especially before the sequel arrives.

You should totally try it! It's got great personality and fun set of characters. I really enjoy playing it in the summer due to the summer camp setting of the game. Something feels right about playing it on a warm summer night.

Psychonauts was my Game of the Year in 2005.  I'd love to play this one, but I don't have a VR thing.  I did play a neat arcade room VR game called Ralph Wrecks VR a few months ago.  I plan on writing about it later this month.

That Wreck It Ralph game sounds cool, I'll have to look into it!

For the price, I think it's a great buy!

I didn't know that Psychonauts got the VR treatment but from your discription it sounds like it is a good fit for VR.

It definitely is a good fit for it, though I do think they could've done the same game sans VR.
