Valentine Reviews!

This week has Valentine’s Day, so I’ve got some Valentine’s treats for all of you!  Game reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com!  Yeah, I know, just what you wanted, right?  Anyway, please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a comment or ‘like’ or two.  I’d really appreciate it.  Thanks!

Mario Valentines

It’s about time they made these!  Remember in elementary school when you’d get those cheap cartoon character valentines to give to everyone in the class?  Well these are Mario ones.  They also had Minecraft valentines but I didn’t get those.  I wonder if we’ll ever get Pac-Man or Kirby valentines?  What video game valentines would you like to see?  If you could give a valentine card to any video game character, who would it be?  Can you guess who I’d give a card to?

Pang Adventures (Switch)

So you may be thinking to yourself, “What the heck is Pang?”  Well if you lived in the US in the 80’s, you may know the Pang series better as Buster Bros.  It was originally an arcade game where you play as two boys who use harpoons to pop bubbles bouncing around.  It wasn’t quite as popular as others, but I still remember it as a kid at the local Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, and I also have fond memories playing it with my brothers when Capcom published the Buster Bros. Collection on PSOne.  So I was excited to find out about a new game in the series.

Clock Simulator (Switch)

So in Clock Simulator, you are the clock.  You must press a button to count down seconds, but make sure they’re right on the dot.  And that’s it.  I wouldn’t even call it a music/rhythm game, because there is no music.  It’s just a rhythm game.  It’s really weird, too.

Melbits World (PS4)

I wanted to like this game so much, I really did.  It’s like a cross between Captain Toad and Lemmings, and has cute graphics and colorful characters.  The world needs more games like this.  But the unique thing about this game is you control it with your cell phone, and it doesn’t work very well because of that.  Plus you have to have two players to play it.  I don’t see why they couldn’t implement regular controllers, too, and let you play single player as well.

Battle Princess Madelyn (PS4)

This game plays almost just like Ghosts N Goblins right down to the weapons and settings, which is both a blessing and a curse.  You play as a princess and the game feels like it could’ve been a Capcom SNES game, which is cool.  But like Ghosts N Goblins, the game is way too hard and goals and objectives are unclear in the adventure mode.  But if you like Ghosts N Goblins, you may want to check this one out since I don’t think Capcom is going to revisit this series anytime soon.

Lifty! (iPad)

Outside of Elevator Action, there’s not many games that features elevators as a major gameplay aspect.  But now there is with Lifty.  You operate an elevator up and down picking up passengers and dropping them off before they get too impatient and explode.  As a free-to-play game, I hate how you have to use earned coins to save your progress, as that’s not fitting for a mobile game.  I think Lifty would be better as a reworked arcade title.  “Elelator go up, eletator stop.  Elelator go down, elelator stop.”  If you can get that reference, you get a gold star.

Chicken Pox (iPad)

And finally, this is like a fast paced version of connect the dots.  I do like the cute graphics, but the game just didn’t draw me in.  Which is strange because as a kid, I loved connect the dots.  When I was a kid, I loved things like connect the dots, sticker albums, and spinning around and around until I got dizzy and fell down.  But as an adult, those things just don’t appeal to me anymore.  Especially that last one.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading my reviews and posting ‘likes’ and comments.  Happy Valentine’s Day!  --Cary

Hallmark has been getting with the gamers lately. I like it.

Give a Valentine card to Bayonnetta. Not in person though. That could be dangerous. You know how unpredictable she is.

A game named Chicken Pox? Ha ha. Why?

On the Hallmark thing, here's what I think has happened.  I think Nintendo has lowered their licensing fees on usage of their characters.  That's why we're seeing more things like Mario cereal.  So I think Hallmark jumped on that boat.

I dunno about Bayonetta.  She seems kind of scary.  Instead of me WANTING to give her a valetine, she seems like a woman who would MAKE me give her one.  Plus she beats up angels.  I can't approve of that.

Here's a random real life Bayonetta story.  One time at E3 I was walking along and I heard a CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP right behind me!  I turned around and it was a lady dressed as Bayonetta, and her gun shoes were making all that noise!  You're not sneaking up on me today, Bayonetta!  I will say that it was a very nice costume, if you know what I mean.

I guess it's called Chicken Pox because you are a chicken and collect eggs.  It's like a fast paced version of connect the dots.  Just read the review.

I just heard Xbox Live will be an app on Switch soon. What things Nintendo is doing lately. . .

Ha ha. She would definitely MAKE you give her one.

That must've been kind of scary at first, turning around and seeing Bayonnetta at the con. She was probably pretty tall in those shoes.

How would an Xbox LIVE app work on the Switch?

One thing I can say about that Bayonetta costume is that it was very good and convincing.

I don't know. I just heard about it on Gameinformer's podcast. Seems it will allow achievements for cross-over games. Maybe Game Pass too? Apparently MS wants their games to be able to be played anywhere on anything. It makes me wonder what's under the hood of the Switch and whether games for other consoles will run just as good on the Switch.

I thought Mario valentines already existed? I could be wrong, but I thought I remembered them years ago. Maybe I'm crazy. I think they were cards as in the size of baseball cards though. I could very well have just created a memory out of thin air ...

I really want official Yakuza valentine's cards, but I know it's not gonna happen.

I know what you're saying.  I thought we might've had Mario valentines around the Mario 3 era, as I seem to remember one saying "I'm Toad-ally Yours" or something.  But I think I might've just imagined that.  At any rate, I would think we would've gotten Mario valentines sooner and more frequently.

i can't imagine Yakuza valentines, but if I could do it in the one Yakuza game I played, I'd give a valentine to that arcade lady, because she was neat-o!

You'd probably have to show ID to buy them though and they'd come with a parental warning.

I'm only surprised it hasn't happened sooner.  Thanks for reading!

Valentine's Day cards were the best in elementary schools. We would get a list of everyone's names in class, and the day before we would make these construction paper pouches and tape them on the front of our desks and then have the exchange the next day. Good times.

I'd like to see games like Katamari get the Valentine's Day treatment. Something funny.

Katamari valentines sound like a good idea!  Here's a couple of Katamari songs that would go well with Valentine's Day.

I was listening to these tracks while replying to some comments here and I like them, two different styles but go really well with the game. I checked on Amazon for Katamari soundtracks and yikes $30+ is a little steep but at some point I would like to add them to my library.

I've imported a couple of Japan only game soundtracks like the Tales of Legendia and Arkanoid DS CDs.  But the Katamari soundtracks are too expensive.
