I definitely have different tastes than you; Mario 2 is fine, I can just never figure out where to go. Zelda II ... not a fan. 

yeah, Zelda 2 is kind of obtuse. But I didn't know that as a kid, and grew to like it. 

I like PLAYING Zelda II. If there was a save anywhere feature or some checkpoints, I might love it. But I do not like starting over from the castle every time ... 

Played a ton of that game and my wife and kids did too.

It's going to be added to Nintendo on-line this month.

I love Mario 1, 2, and 3. I just can't get into World haha. Mario 2 had some great tunes, and gameplay for sure. Wouldn't mind at all if they made another one that is in 2D based off that same aesthetic, sound, and gameplay.

I'm glad there's somebody else besides me who likes Mario 2 more than 1 or 3.  Don't get me wrong, SMB1 was great and an influental game.  It just wasn't the game that made me want a NES (that was original Zelda).  And Mario 3 is also great, but I just preferred the gameplay, controls, and level design of Mario 2.  And looking at the history of Mario 2, turns out the original game was made by Miyamoto and features a lot of ideas he wanted to put in the next Mario game, and it was just happenstance that they changed it to be about a festival going on that time in Japan.  

But I just can't get on the Zelda 2 bandwagon.  Don't like it that much.  Give me the original any day.

I kind of hem and haw about my favorite 2-D Mario game.  Some days it's Super Mario World, some days it's Yoshi's Island.

yeah, I understand the dislike for Zelda 2. I couldn't explain why I like it. 

SMB2 though just really entertained me when I was a kid. I wish they would do some kind of throwback level of it in a new Mario game, that would be great.

I know I've played this at some time, probably when I first got a NES sometime in the 90s and played a bunch of games. I'm slowly coming around to platformers, but I never played them very long.

It may not have originally been a Mario game but it was made by the Mario people, so I think that's close enough lol. And it's been so influential to Mario canon. Where would we be without Shy Guys? Yoshi would starve! I didn't play it till Mario All-Stars and didn't really get into until the GBA but I respect the heck out of it. I wonder why they have never made an honest to gosh sequel in the same still.

they should at least do a throwback level in a new Mario game. That would be great.

Man when this came out it was so different. I liked the look but I didn't like the gameplay. This game made me get hyped to see SMB3. Years later I tried it again and I liked it because it's not your typical Mario game.
