Lost Odyssey was part of Microsoft's plan to get JRPG's released on their Xbox 360. To an extent, it worked. There were a good deal of them, some of them good, some of them terrible. Lost Odyssey was a good one. Unfortunately, people who tended to play JRPG's didn't buy the 360, so they had low sales, and later in the 360's life, the program dried up.
Developed by Mistwalker, it was produced by the legendary Hironobu Sakaguchi, of Final Fantasy fame, and even included beautiful music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, also of Final Fantasy fame (great music!). The game is about a few people who are immortal, living on when their loved ones die, and forgetting their lives as a defense mechanism.
It's not a perfect game by any means, but it reaches a lot of highs. There are also some lows - random battles in a HD game, a bizarre minigame during a funeral, and a bit of grinding. But it's a beautiful game, with a great story.
What I liked best about it is it allowed you to have five members in your battle party, where most JRPG's only allow three or four. I really dug that, and it made the combat interesting. Others complained it made the battle slow.
I keep hoping they'll re-release a remastered or definitive version (c'mon, Switch port!) but I don't think it's going to happen. It is backward compatible on the Xbox One.
I had a great time with this game, and was truly moved by the story.
