If there is such thing as Hell, I have no doubt it somehow involves playing the NES game 3D World Runner. Known for being a complete knockoff of Sega''s Space Harrier, it differs from that hit in two big ways. First, you can put on 3D mode by pressing SELECT and then slap on your stereoscopic glasses and play the game in 3D. Second, unlike Space Harrier, where you can fly around the screen, in World Runner you are trapped running on the ground, but with the ability to jump. In fact you need to jump to avoid the insane number of bottomless pits that you will encounter.

It's a highly frustrating game, but I didn't realize how crappy it was until I had played it endlessly as a kid.

The other thing notable about the game is it's one of the first collaborations between Hironobu Sakagushi and Nobuo Uematsu, who went on to Final Fantasy fame.

The 3D visuals aren't bad, and of course were a fun gimmick to differentiate it from other Nintendo games.  I can still see this game in my head like I'm still playing it. A curse for eternity.

Yeah this was one of Square's first games.  Hard to believe they made this.  In Japan the game is called Jumping Jack.  The main character in this game was also a secret character in the PSOne kart racer Chocobo Racing, which I thought was a pretty fun little game.

Anticipating "runner" games for phones 20 years before.

When I opened this I saw the screen and said "hey bootleg Space Harrier". I'm shocked there was another game on the NES that had the 3D paper glasses and hit select to access the funky 3D mode. The one I know (and love) is Rad Racer.
