It's funny - at the time of the N64's popularity, I remember playing games on it and marvelling at the graphics. Nowadays I'm like - What is that color puke?" It's funny how the bar raises. I had a great time with my N64, but a lot of the games haven't aged so well, especially in the looks department.

Jet Force Gemini is one of those games. I had a great time playing it back in the day, but over the years since I have heard a lot of people complain about it, and I worry I might not have noticed its flaws when I enjoyed it. At the time, I found it luscious and fun, with great visuals. Crazy.

You could be one of three characters - a boy, a girl, or a dog with a gun on its back. It was a third person 3D shooter when that was a burgeoning genre, but most of the levels were pretty linear. I remember being most impressed with the enemies who carried shields you had to shoot around to kill. That was new to me.

On the last level, you run across this floor where you can see your reflection in the tiles. I remember being so shocked at this at the time - I had never seen such in a video game before.

Well, I certainly enjoyed this game. But I definitely haven't played it since.

I think for an N64 game its visuals aren't bad. I played it recently. What's bad is how the aiming camera fights you and wants to always be centered, leading to some really awkward combat and shooting mistakes.

Yeah it was on that Rare collection, wasn’t it?

I first played Jet Force Gemini at E3 and I didn't like the controls, so I skipped out on it when it came out.  Too bad it didn't play more like Ratchet and Clank.  It's funny how certain things age better than others on the N64.  For instance, I replayed Donkey Kong 64 a couple of years ago and thought it had aged poorly, and yet when I replayed Banjo-Kazooie and its sequel, I thought they were still fun and aged very well.

I feel the same way, although I still prefer Super Mario 64 over either DK64 or B-K. I also felt that Turok probably holds up better now than Goldeneye did, since the thing that made Goldeneye so popular, the split-screen multiplayer, isn't quite as special as it used to be.

I had this cart when I had my N64 a few years ago. I never got to it, but it's on Rare Replay, so I'll get to it eventually. I want to be the dog with the gun.

I remember being blow away by the visuals of MDK II in 2000. It's weird how what seems good changes over time. Now, Red Dead Redemption II blew me away. There is totally no comparison between those two games.

I remember MDK. Seemed so cool at the time. My brother played it.

It was the first thing I did on the first PC that I bought. It stuck in my mind. Latest technology and all that.
