I cannot get pictures to load onto my blog on this site anymore, to see a better edited version of my blog, click here: https://f1r3inth3h0l3.blogspot.com/

It has been a long time since I have wrote a blog, 3 years, what can I say, life just gets you wrapped up in so many other things. I have taken up some new hobbies (intramural sports and photography). I have not wrote a blog since I changed my job and my location. Since then a lot has happened in my life; I was in a long-term relationship that recently ended, I purchased a home, I took a big promotion at work and a slew of other stuff. Going on a trip to Thailand later this year, looking forward to that, if anyone has been there and has any traveling tips, much appreciated.

Being that as it may, my video game life usually revolves around two games; Rocket League and Enter the Gungeon. I have been playing and still play those games for years now, both since they were released. Speaking of Enter the Gungeon, it looks like the final update to the game will be releasing soon, that is exciting

I still manage to buy a shit ton of games though that just sit on my shelf. Funny because I tend to buy a lot of re-releases; Onimusha (PS4), Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (PS4), Devil May Cry Trilogy (PS4), Shenmue 1 and 2 (PS4), Mega Man Legacy Collections 1 & 2 (PS4), Megaman X Collection 1+2 (PS4), Bioshock Collection (PS4), Crash N-Sane Trilogy (PS4), Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PS4) and Burnout Paradise (PS4). I just need a Mass Effect Trilogy released for Playstation 4 and I will be happy AF.

Also some newer releases; Spider Man, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Neir Automata, God of War, Dragon Ball Fighterz and Wolfenstein II; all for Playstation 4. I bought an Xbox One S to use as a 4k bluray player (I wish PS4 would’ve done this) and I actually purchased my first physical copies of games for that system, it was a awesome deal I found online where I got new copies of Sunset Overdrive, Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall 2 all for $5…total. Sunset Overdrive was the reason I bought that.

GAMES COMPLETED

Horizon Zero Dawn – When I first started Horizon, I wasn’t drawn into it. I believe I have the old mentality when it comes to games where I really want a good story and gameplay. Nowadays it seems developers are more concerned with having gamers spend more time in their game than any other one and therefore inflate them or add unnecessary multiplayer, loot boxes….etc. As I got more and more into the story, I therefore put more time into upgrading, finding the metal flowers, climbing tall necks and all the “other” stuff that doesn’t progress the story. Open world games in general I tend to lose interest over time because there is too much to do, it’s overwhelming.

Horizon had enough of an interesting story and I liked the gameplay to keep me through to the end. Taking down the various machines, analyzing their weakness, looking for rare components to upgrade weapons and armor; I was sucked in. I enjoyed the hunting aspect of this game more than in any other game I played, because it can get old fast killing all the wildlife you see. There was always a sense of danger where things could go horribly wrong and they can, this may have been the key.

I do not want to spoil too much about the story because that was the draw that kept me going, but once you encounter “Hades”, that wonder of who and what the he is kept me intrigued. The graphics in this game are pretty gorgeous and it wasn’t until I started God of War (see below) did I think there was no way they could be topped.

I recommend Horizon Zero Dawn, it lives up as a flagship title for Playstation 4. Stick with it even if it doesn’t immediately hook you, I have that feeling often and always feel more of a connection as I become more invested.

GAMES STARTED

God of War – I have played all the console God of War games and it has always been one of my favorite series in gaming. GOW:Ascension is where fatigue set in though and I am glad they gave the series a breather because this iteration is so damn good. The visuals are pretty amazing, Sony always steps up to the plate with their exclusives, have always appreciated that. The Order 1886 was pretty damn impressive at its time and I enjoyed my experience with that game, and Uncharted 4 as well. I thought this was a reboot but then after the early hours of the game you realize it references events from past games, which I greatly appreciate having played the previous titles. The gameplay is pretty awesome, I didn’t think it could get better from previous titles, glad to be proven wrong.

I got halfway through Horizon and stopped, not because I didn't want to finish, but because I didn't feel leveling up was helping me like it should, nor did enemy weaknesses seem to matter much. I still plan to finish it.

God of War I'm not so sure. It just hasn't grabbed me at all more than 10 hours in. I guess I'll finish it, but more just to say I did.

Both games are incredibly pretty though. I prefer Horizon's visuals overall, but both are impressive.

I kind of felt that way too about the leveling in Horizon. What changed for me was watching some YouTube videos on how to take down some of the tougher enemies and watching the weapons they had really opened my eyes that I really needed to upgrade armor and weapons.

I love God of War so far but I loved almost every game in the series. The premise of taking on gods and mythical creatures is an exciting concept and has always been the draw to those game for me.

You gotta use a photo sharing platform like Flickr or something for now.

I‘ll comment more later.

I'm using Onedrive to post photos. It's worked fine so far. Not for video though. Maybe Google Drive works too?

I've wanted to play Horizon, but I'm so overwhelmed by my backlog right now and don't get a lot of time for gaming. It looks awesome though!

I bought Rocket League for my Switch a while back but STILL havent played it. It's definitely my kind of game though, from what I've heard.

Glad to hear from you again!

I was kind of hesitant about playing Horizon at first because I tend to lose interest in open world games pretty quickly. Once you start to dig into it though, I did really enjoy it. I need to add A LOT of games to my Backloggery lol, I have bought so many. I like that site, its a fun way to track game playing. Rocket League is so fun, probably one of my all-time favorites, I mean I have been playing it for years now. Enter the Gungeon and...Clash of Clans lol. COC is my game I play on breaks, bus rides and home watching TV.

Have fun in Thailand! That sounds like an awesome trip and be sure to take lots of pictures!

I had that problem of buying games that just sit (heck I still do with Steam). Funny about Burnout Paradise is that I bought it on Steam and a year later they released the remastered. If there is a release of all the Onimusha games I would buy it in a heartbeat. I own the games already but it would be fun to play on the PS4.

Good to see you back around here!

I tried to get into PC gaming and made a Steam account, boy was that a mistake, I think I own around 200 games on there that I may never touch again. PC gaming costs too much for the rig for my taste, I would rather wait for PlayStation 5 and have one machine I don’t have to touch for 7 years.

I am glad to be back. I log in here and read and listen to the podcast, I just haven’t been writing anything. I want to change that.

Thailand will be interesting, a little bit nervous to traveling to the opposite side of the globe, it will be worth it in the end I hope lol.

I'm on a short game binge right now because I'm too stressed to handle a big game.

I played a few hours of Horizon: Zero Dawn and really liked it.

I finished The Order 1886 just a few months ago. It looked great but you couldn't interact much. I wanted to play with everything in Tesla's lab. God of War was fine but I didn't stick with it much after the first big ogre. I miss the fast action of GOW 1-3.

Enter the Gungeon I recommend for short runs, it’s a lot of fun. I have been playing it since it released a few years ago. A run usually lasts 30mins for me.
