I really shouldn’t be buying new games, but in the last couple of weeks I’ve been snatching up digital games, sometimes on a whim and sometimes after having forgotten about them.

Yes, I’m still inching my way through Sekiro. My reflexes were never super sharp for precision gameplay, and Sekiro really does require a very different mindset from previous From games in some ways. In other ways, it’s exactly what you’d expect. But two million people have bought the game so I’m likely telling you what you already know.

At the same time, I picked up the digital copy of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel for PS4. It’s the most complete and up-to-date version of that game that exists, but I’m going in cold. The Trails series was something I always had in the back of my mind to get into, but the fact that they were PC/PSP games prevented me from being able to play them. When the PS3 ones released I had already moved on to the PS4. Now I can finally check the latest part of the series out, and I was at first worried that it would be... boring.

Now, my fears came from the fact that I fell off Dragon Quest 11 at about the halfway point. (Not that I ever finish any game I purchase, my track record is poor, my backlog is insane.) DQXI weaknesses are Cold Steels strength and vice versa. DQXI had an old tired combat system with bland characters, god awful music (which is sorta being fixed in the Switch edition, fuck you too asshole composer) and a surprisingly lifeless and small feeling world. But it had pretty graphics.

Cold Steel has weak graphics and strong everything else. (Characters, their motivations, and the setting are subjective.) I’ve found the combat challenging on normal difficulty, but not uneven and balanced.

I’ve been messing around with Elder Scrolls Online, but it’s just reminding me of why I love Guild Wars 2 so much.ESO’s combat is so terrible, goddamn. While ESO is adding a dragon plotline this summer (oh, look at how tiny and cute their dragons are), a fucking dragon the size of a mountain is destroying the world reality in GW2 right now. WE’RE GETTING DRAGONS TO RIDE Y’ALL. I just hope it doesn’t make my Griffin obsolete. I’m so stoked.

Just another day in Lion's Arch.

THIS WEEK, I downloaded and checked out Falcon Age. It’s rough around the edges, especially the voice acting for the Aunt. I haven’t gotten very far, but the falcon is indeed neat. (I’m playing with normal vision, not on VR. I’m sure it’s rad in VR.)

I... neglected to download Ghost of a Tale when it hit PS4. I had that game on my “BUY THIS” list for so long that somehow it came and went without my noticing. I’ve gotten so used to mediocre digital titles from small teams that I had blanked on this. I REALLY SHOULDN’T HAVE. IT’S MOUSESOULS.... well.... it’s a stealth action/adventure game that has ridiculously beautiful graphics and detailed world building that is so good. The characters are super interesting and it’s just really making me wish someone would make a Redwall game that looks like it cause it’s super cool and I spent about 5 hours playing early and feel like I’m only a 4th of the way through the game.

Next week, on April 16th and 11:30AM EDT, DREAMS EARLY ACCESS hits.

What should I attempt to make? What are you all going to try to make, if you are so inclined?

I recently got back into Persona Q on the 3DS since I was near the beginning. I wanna finish it before PQ2 releases. So far I'm making good progress. Other than that I've been playing Dragon Quest Builders on the Switch. I finished the story so now on the free build mode and it's pretty fun.

My backlog is insane. It's overwhelming. And the problem is, when I do have the time to play a game, I play games I've already beaten, like old Final Fantasy games.

 I'm doomed.

I forgot about A Ghost of a Tale too. I've been following that since it was on early access on steam.

Same issue, it takes me months to beat a single game because I always go back to Rocket League and Enter the Gungeon; meanwhile keep purchasing new games. I am very happy to hear the early rumblings of the PlayStation 5 being backwards compatible, I need it!

I just got finished playing Yoshi's Crafted World.  It's a good game but I prefer Yoshi's Woolly World.  I also fired up the PlayStation Classic that I got for Christmas.  I'll be writing a blog about that in late April/early May.

Just finished the last achievement I want to go for in Forza Horizon 4 today. Then I finished the main story in Borderlands GotY Edition.
