Twisted-Metal-2

I cannot empirically prove to you that Twisted Metal 2 is a great game. I can say that I played it endlessly, beating it over and over, with my brother, and just by myself. Basically a PSONE battle royale with cars laden with machineguns, bombs, missiles, and other weapons, it's a fight to the finish in rudimentary versions of famous cities. There is a variety of cars to choose from, including the one pictured where it's just a guy chained to two wheels. Each car has its own stats and special weapon.

Me and my brother loved this game. And it allowed for split screen co-op. However, on the last level, after you defeat the last boss, the two players must finally face each other - for only one can be triumphant.

It's a fun game.

Incidentally, back in the nineties when I lived in San Francisco and got to interview for a job at Gamepro, I told the editor this was one of my favorite games. He asked me to write a review of it as a test, and email it to him later that week. I guess he didn't like it - I never got the job.

I love that guy-between-two-wheels thing. I think I played some Twisted Metal Black at some point.

Interesting you applied at Gamepro. I used to follow a few poeple on podcasts and whatnot who worked there in the 90s, Dan Amrich and Hugh Sterbakov. I also remember that magazine. I liked their issues where they listed all the games they'd reviewed. It was like they dumped their spread sheets into a magazine, but I liked that.

I never played Twisted Metal Black. It's too bad the series faded away, cars with guns are cool.

Ever play the board game Car Wars? Or, I guess it's a pen-and-paper game. I played it way back with a friend of mine. Load your cars up with weapons and battle it out. It was fun.

No, but I’ve heard of it.

Ah yeah. He did a lot of games. I read some books for his space opera game but never actually played it

I still want to play Toon, the game where you basically do DnD but with cartoon characters.

Axl, right? (name of character)

Sorry GamePro didn't work out ... for anyone, really.

I was disappointed at the time, but not so much now. Video game writers are some jaded fucks.

I played a bit of Twisted Metal on the PS Classic and I think I played the sequel on a demo disc back in the day.  Not really my cup of tea, but they were certainly popular games and representative of the PlayStation.

That's cool that you applied for a job at GamePro.  Shame it never came through.  Back when 1up.com was big, I applied for SO MANY jobs there.  Never was successful, though.

Yeah I was disappointed, but I don't really think of it much.
