Super Reviews!

I’m going to save the day with more game reviews I’ve recently written at GamerDad.com!  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.  OK, let’s go!

Echo amiibo Trio

My latest batch of amiibo figures are a trio of echo fighters from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Ken, Princess Daisy, and Young Link.  Actually I’m not sure if Young Link is considered an echo fighter, as I don’t get into the nitty gritty semantics and details of Smash Bros.  Not much else to say about these guys, except the level of detail is nice as always.  I especially like Young Link’s wooden shield.  I think Link has more amiibo figures than any other character now, including Mario!

Pliq (iPad)

It’s a simple free-to-play Tetris style puzzle game.  It may not hold your interest as long as other puzzlers, but I still liked it.  Especially the neon 80’s aesthetic, and the fact that when you clear out certain blocks, you view an ad.  Sure that kind of free-to-play stuff is annoying, but the way they did that made me chuckle.

Cartoon Network Arcade (iPad)

It’s just a hub where you can play a bunch of free-to-play simple arcade style games featuring Cartoon Network characters.  Some of these cartoons I’ve never heard of before!

FUN!  FUN! Animal Park (Switch)

It’s just a party mini-game collection featuring a bunch of animals and motion controls.  It looks like something that would’ve been done on the Wii.  My first instinct was to bash it for that, but if you think about it, even though we’re probably all tired of mini-games with waggle controls, there are a new generation of kids out there who have never played games like this before, and it would be new to them.  And this game is obviously made for kids so I went a little easier on it.  I think it’s interesting that this game was published by the same folks who publish the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue games.  Aksys has been supportive of me since pretty much their entire existence, so good for them!

Feather (Switch)

The joy of flight is always a highlight in many a video game.  Remember when you first got an airship in a Final Fantasy game?  Or the wing cap in Mario 64?  How about flying with feathers in Banjo-Kazooie?  Speaking of feathers, here’s a game that’s nothing but flying as a bird, as you soar around an island in a stress-free environment.  It’s an interesting concept, but without any kind of goals or objectives, there’s not much to do.

She Remembered Caterpillars (Switch)

I’m not really sure why this game is called She Remembered Caterpillars.  Before each level there is some text for some kind of story, but it’s not really necessary or related to the gameplay and just makes things more artsy and pretentious than what it needs to be.  For all I’m concerned, the story is that you’re trying to make these little colored critters get to certain spots on a maze filled with colored bridges and whatnot, and when all the little guys are where they need to be, they’ll sprout propellers and fly away, moving you on to the next level.  It’s a neat little puzzler, but gets very hard, very quickly.

Cook, Serve, Delicious 2!! (PS4)

It’s a time management restaurant cooking sim, but it’s way too hard.  You have to remember which button on the controller does what, and the icons for actions are spread all over the screen and sometimes you even have to scroll through options to get to what you want.  I know running a restaurant can be hectic, but I don’t think it’s THIS hectic!

New Rue Eur (iPad)

I’m not even sure how you pronounce the title of this game.  If I say it like it’s spelled, it sounds like I’m running out of batteries or something.  Anyway, New Rue Eur is a free-to-play puzzle game where you match up license plates on a road.  But it’s not very fun and has a very amateurish feel to it.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading my reviews and posting ‘likes’ and comments.  I really do appreciate it.  I think I’ll use this space to brag about myself a little bit.  Normally I don’t like to do that, but that’s why I’m doing that on the bottom of this blog because I doubt not everyone will read this far.  Anyway, I joined a new kind of gym about three months ago, and last time I weighed there, I had lost six pounds of bodyfat and gained nine pounds of muscle!  I’m getting really strong!  Later!  --Cary

I heard amiibos aren't selling particularly well. I still like them, though. I should look for sales.

I know it's bad for me to say this, but if they're not selling well, it just means they'll be easier for me to get!  :)  They must still be selling well enough is Nintendo is still making them.

I heard the Super Smash Bros ones are doing well, but other ones are much less popular. Someone I listen to on podcasts suggested the Animal Crossing ones were to blame. Ha ha. I don't know.

Yeah I think the only new ones are Smash Bros. amiibo.  I like the Animal Crossing ones, but I still see piles of them at my local Five & Below.

Cooking sims should not be obtuse.

I wouldn't mind it if they would give you more time to figure out which button does what.

Speaking of cooking games, right now I'm playing a game for review where you're a bartender and must mix and serve drinks to customers in a dystopian sci-fi future.  It's interesting so far.  The game is called VA-11 Hall-A.  Ever heard of it?

I have, and I've seen it when I browse on the eShop. Do you like it?

Well I think it's an interesting idea.  But I wish you didn't have to wade through so much text.  But I still need to play it more before I gather up enough opinions to write a review.
