It was insane how difficult it was just to get to the point of crashing when trying to land on the damn aircraft carrier. I think I did it once, and then proceeded to get destroyed in the next level. It still hasn't lost that love and feeling....I'll see myself out.
Highway to the Crap Zone - Top Gun for the NES

I'm sure you are all familiar with the Tom Cruise movie, Top Gun. But you might not have heard of the NES version of the game (apparently there is a sequel too... I didn't know that.) When I was a wee boy, my crazy uncle bought this game for me. He might have liked original movie, but he had no idea about games. Top Gun for the NES is terrible.
Flight simulators weren't completely unusual in the 8bit world. There was Sega's arcade classic Afterburner which appeared on the Sega Master System. But Afterburner is pretty fun. This game is not fun. However, like Afterburner, you can shoot at missiles that are flying at you -- which I'm sure is based on real life, ha ha.
This game though is in first person though when you play. It's actually a bit more of a simulation than Afterburner, which is evident in the aircraft carrier landing and midair fueling segments of the game, which are brutally unforgiving. I don't know if I ever landed on the aircraft carrier, but I must have because I think I did make it to the second level a couple times.
Anyway, I would avoid this one.
