Amazing VG Themes: Final Fantasy Love (Part 2)

Part 2 continues some of the most amazing themes in all of video gaming as we look at Nobuo Uematsu's masterful scores of FF6 through FF10. I wish I could cram in all the songs I love, but that would take all day, so instead I've picked just one theme from each game. As always, feel free to comment below about your favorite FF songs and let the love flow!

FF6--Aria Di Mezzo Carettere

FF6 is my favorite in the series. Uematsu hit his peak with the score as almost every song in the game is memorable and the instrumentation is fantastic. Each character has his own theme, and they all fit that character's personality so well (even the bad guy has his own theme). It's hard to pick one particular theme, but I chose a very famous part of the game: the Opera House. We all remember this part, right? Celes goes out and sings her theme in an opera style. It's beautiful. And this is only one part of the opera; Uematsu put together a waltz and dual number before this one, but this was the climax. It's not just a great song, it's a piece of video game history and nostalgia.

FF7--One Winged Angel

I wouldn't say FF7 is the best FF game, but it certainly is the most popular. It was the right game at the right time. Since the game was huge (3 discs), Uematsu composed a lot of songs that are forgettable; but of course, there are several songs that have gone on to become classics, such as Aerith's theme. However, One Winged Angel is an incredibly epic final boss theme. I'm sure you've heard it since it's one of the most famous themes in game EVER. The orchestral version is even better! It rivals FF6's Dancing Mad, which is much longer of a song, but more comtemplative than this one.

FF8--Liberi Fatali

The opening theme of FF8 is awesome! This was the first FF theme to be fully orchestrated for a game. You can tell that those voices are real (especially compared to the ones from One Winged Angel). The song is very exciting, rising again and again to build tension; it sounds like a theme you would hear in an action movie. Actually, it's like watching an action movie since it plays while you're watching the exciting opening. You get to see Rinoa, the Sorceress (she looks so evil), and Squall swordfight with Seifer. I love the last part when the screen goes black and the music sounds so ominous.

FF9--Melodies of Life

Melodies of Life is the main theme of FF9 and this particular song plays during the credits. It's absolutely gorgeous. I usually don't like lyrics in VG songs, but this one doesn't bother me. The orchestration is great, as always. I feel bad for FF9; it is the last FF game that stuck to that classic formula before so much changed, and it's really overlooked. It came out at a bad time (the PS2 was on the rise). The loveable characters and cutscenes in FF9 were remarkable. It deserves more credit.

FF10--Someday the Dream will Die

I haven't played FF10, but apparently this theme plays while one your way to the Zanarkand Ruins (is that right?). It's my favorite theme from the game for sure. It's relaxing and peaceful, but at the same time, exciting and moving. I would imagine it fitting perfectly with your characters journeying towards a dungeon. It's also sort of mysterious and ominous, which is always cool.

I went to a FF orchestra concert and they did the whole opera theme.  I was in heaven.

FF6 is my favorite FF game, and one of my top five games of all time.  And my other favorite FF games are FF4 and FF9.

Take a look at FF Mystic Quest, it may not be the best, but the music is great.

Yeah, I know Mystic Quest is a pretty crappy game, but I'll check out the music. FF4 and 9 and both great games, but I agree with you, 6 is the best.

FF 6 is my favorite FF, and one of my all time favorite rpgs as well. I have beaten it countless times and could never possibly get sick of it. It's really hard for me to say what my favorite song is since there are so many great ones. Here's one of them.

Since Cary mentioned Mystic Quest, have you heard the battle theme? It rocks! Cool

Yes! Cyan's a great character with a great theme. My favorite character in FF6 is Locke; he's the man! All of the characters have great themes which is really amazing.

Wow! That battle theme is cool! Did Nobou Uematsu compose that soundtrack? It really sounds like someone else did it.

Cyan's my favorite. His mannerisms are hilarious! I love all of them really. Well, except for Strago. That dude was a piece of crap. Why are the blue mages always so sucky in FF games?

I don't think that Nobou Uematsu did the soundtrack for Mystic Quest. That game takes a lot of flak, but it's a decent rpg for beginners, and the music is great! Then again, If it wasn't for the awesome music, I wouldn't say it's worth playing lol.

Picking just one song from these games would be so tough, especially from VI. I suppose it would be a cop out to pick the ending theme lol. Man, I'll never tire of Melodies of Life though.
