I've mentioned it before, but I'll mention it again: I love Coheed & Cambria. They're an amazing band that produces some of the most epic and interesting music I've ever heard. Coincidentally (not really, I'm writing this blog specifically about this), they are releasing a new album double album that's set to release on October 9. The Afterman: Ascension will be the first half, with the second half, The Afterman: Descension releasing February of 2013. They've dropped their first single from this new album and man is it good.

The last album, while an album I like, was not indicative of their best work. Much of it was overproduced and the soaring guitar, the epic solos, and the back and forth between guitarist Travis Stever and singer/guitarist Claudio Sanchez was simply omitted. With a few years to build up new material while touring, plus the reintroduction of drummer Josh Eppard and new bassist, Zach Cooper, the band has grown considerably since their last album. The first single from Ascension, Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitue clearly shows this. Not only have they grown, but they've returned to the things that they do best, which is exciting to say the least.

I implore you to listen to the below video, even if you aren't a fan of, or even familiar with the band.

I absolutely love the guitar work here and the progression of the song from beginning to end. It starts powerful and strong, slows down in the middle and comes back explosively at the end. Part of what really draws me to the song is how epically it ends. The lyrics and music come together into something very powerful.

One by one

We are together
We fall together

But my brother, don’t be afraid

We are together
We are together

Brother!

We are together!
We fall together!"
