You know, for a long time, I have really preferred handheld gaming over console gaming. With the DS systems, the PSP, the Vita, and even the Wii U, I have enjoyed many hours of gaming. But - and this might upset the faithful - as much as I love the Switch, I just really have a hard time playing it for longer than thirty or forty minutes. It gets uncomortable to me in my hands. It's really not very ergonomic, and in addition to that, the thumbsticks are total crap.
I've been debating getting DQ11 for the Switch, but I've been playing the demo, and after a while my hands hurt. I really think I might continue on the PS4 or play the Switch in the base instead.
Having completed DQ XI on the PS4 and started playing it again on Switch I have this to say.
Play the Switch version!!! The 16 bit additions are lots of fun and there are other scenarios not in the PS4 version.
I don't play it much holding on to it. I either play it on the Telly or on the kitchen table using that new 8bitdo controller that I posted on FB. I even play it that way at my mum's place.
Or you could buy a switch lite and play it that way. :P

yeah, the definitive edition is very, very tempting.
Even if you don't play the whole game in 16 bit, there are 16 bit side quests that pop up early in the game. and the Switch Lite is only $199 in the United States of Trump. It's $260 here. That should me small potatoes for Mr. I buy thousand dollar iPads. I'm changing your name to Mr. Jackpots.

I will say this iPad Pro is THE best computer I have ever owned. I very rarely use my regular computer anymore.
16-bit side quests sound great. I want that feature in other games now.
I bought one of these for my Switch and makes it a lot more comfortable
The Joycons are crap espectially when they start to drift but you wiggle it for a second or so and they adjust. I love that case, it feels like a wide controller.
yeah, the joycons are definitely crap. I have a classic controller so I've been trying it docked.
The Switch is a lot bigger than a Vita, and the controllers are conversely a bit more cramped in handheld mode. I only use my Switch in handheld mode when I take it on trips with me. Otherwise, I treat it as a full console rather than a handheld. It stays in its dock at home. And boy, does Dragon Quest XI S look and sound great on my Samsung Model 6.
yeah, I tried it on our new 4K tv and it looked great. Gonna play it docked for now. :)
I like handheld gaming, but at this point I'd rather have portability as an optional feature rather than as the focus of the whole console. It's why the Switch Lite is not a product for me. Games which could just as easily be played either on a TV or on the go are something I've always wanted. I own every Nintendo console in some form except the Virtual Boy, but who didn't dream of a handheld that could play straight-up NES or SNES games? I also had both the Super Game Boy and the Game Boy Player for Gamecube.
That said, given that one of the Switch's defining features is that portability is an option, Nintendo needs to be paying attention to seeing that Switch games work just as well in portable mode as in handheld mode. And fix the freakin' drift!
I do enjoy my Switch a lot, I really do. But I don't rave about it like many others do. For one, the controllers SUCK! They don't feel right no matter how you hold them, although they feel best when they're in that little holder you use when the Switch is docked. And that whole drifting thing? I've got a left JoyCon all ready to send to Nintendo this week to be repaired. And don't get me started about their onine service. I know I only paid ten bucks for it, but it works worse now than when it was free! So yeah, the Switch is far away from my favorite Nintendo console.
The only time I play my Switch in handheld mode is when I'm on my lunch hour at work. And then I only play it for about 30 minutes or so. I really prefer playing it on the big TV. Many games don't even utilize handheld mode very well. For instance, the text in many games on the Switch is way too small in handheld mode. And even though I review a lot of games on the Switch, if I have a choice, I'll request a PS4 review code first.
I love the Switch, especially all the JRPG's on it, but I'm a bit disillusioned about handheld mode. I've been playing it now docked, and have been happier with the classic controller.
