Old Puzzle Quest back again! Yes. I just wish it would come to Xbox or Playstation.
Love the amiibos. They are such good quality. I especially like Ivysaur.

BOO! OK so these reviews aren’t really that scary, but it is getting near Halloween so here’s my not-so-scary themed latest batch of reviews I’ve written recently over at GamerDad.com. Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it. OK let’s begin…if you dare!
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Dreamer Edition, Amiibo, and More!
Link’s Awakening is my number one all time favorite Zelda game, so I was excited for the Switch remake. So much so that I bought the ‘Dreamer Edition’ which includes the game and an art book. So I thought I’d show it to you here along with the Link’s Awakening amiibo figure and more!
And speaking of amiibo, I got another batch of figures lately so I thought I’d show you those as well. I don’t know why they didn’t include the Pokémon amiibo here with the Trainer. Would’ve made more sense than selling them alongside Snake. In the picture I took for my review, it looks like he’s a Pokémon Trainer, which would make for an interesting story, I’m sure.
The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors (PS4)
Taito Corporation has had a very important part in the history of video games. They made such greats as Bubble Bobble, Arkanoid, and a phenomenon you might remember called Space Invaders. They’ve always tried to innovate in the arcade scene, and one thing they did in the mid to late 80s was make a couple of arcade cabinets that were three screens long! The first one was a 2-D shooter called Darius, which I loved. The second one I wasn’t into as much, but it was certainly more popular and lasted longer in arcades (from what I noticed), and that was The Ninja Warriors. It was a 2-D side scrolling beat ‘em up starring a male and female ninja team who were actually robots (this was the 80s after all). Anyway, after this hit, other companies followed suit with multi screen games of their own, like the arcade version of Tecmo Bowl and later, Konami’s X-Men arcade game. So, back to The Ninja Warriors. Years later, they made a sequel on the Super Nintendo called The Ninja Warriors Again. They had to ditch the three screen format, but they added new characters, enemies, and better graphics. And now they’re back once again with The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors. It’s a port of the SNES game featuring more enhanced graphics, sounds, and added unlockable characters. It kind of makes me think of if the game were on more advanced 16-bit hardware, like the NEO GEO. Why the name change, though? I think it may have to do with the popular American Ninja Warrior game show, which probably has more clout. I was torn because I really wanted to like this game because I’m glad to see that Taito is still doing stuff, but this game was just too hard and I’m not a big fan of The Ninja Warriors anyway.
2-D side scrolling beat ‘em ups were all the rage in the late 80s and early 90s. And if you want to relive those gaming days again, Fight’N Rage plays a lot like those classics. It even looks like something you’d see on a 16-bit console. There’s even an option to make it look like you’re playing on an old TV. The animal enemies make me think of the ones in Battletoads. Unfortunately, even on the Easy setting, the game gets way too hard. Those Doberman bouncers can kiss my hiney!
When the first Super Mario Kart game came out on the SNES, I knew it would be big the first time I saw it. That first game even ended up being one of my top five favorite games of all time. But I don’t know if I realized just HOW big it would end up being, with eight games in the main series, three arcade titles, a VR attraction, an upcoming ride at Universal Studios, and tons of toys and products like slot car tracks and Hot Wheels sets! Wow! So naturally when Nintendo was thinking about what games to bring to mobile devices, Mario Kart would eventually be one of them. So here comes the free-to-play Mario Kart Tour (reviewed on iPad here). So is it any good? You’ll just have to read my review to find out! But I’ll just quickly say that the game is OK if you just want a casual Mario Kart experience, but if you’ve played all the other games in the series like I have, it won’t do much for you. It does have that Nintendo polish but the in-game purchases are some of the worst I’ve seen in any mobile game, especially coming from Nintendo!
Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns (Switch)
Before Candy Crush clones flooded the mobile market, one of the big match three giants was Puzzle Quest. It played like Bejeweled but with RPG elements added. It was a huge hit, and has had many versions, including one that featured Adventure Time characters from the cartoon that I reviewed a few years ago. And now Puzzle Quest returns with new classes and quests, and is exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
Kave is a brave hunter and chief of a group of Neanderthals. But one day he gets banished from his tribe for some reason. While wandering about alone, he sees a mysterious craft crash land, and on closer inspection, he spies an ancient alien exit the downed spaceship and zips towards a volcano. In his haste, the alien drops a futuristic jet pack, which Kave puts on and decides to go after the alien to find out what he’s up to and win back his tribe in the process. Jet Kave Adventure is a 2.5D platformer that reminds me a lot of Donkey Kong Country Returns. It also makes me think of Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninjas for the themes. Unfortunately, like DKC Returns, the game gets way too hard, especially the bosses.
Grobo is a little robot who awakens in futuristic city ruins and now must find out what happened to everyone. Luckily Grobo has the power to shift gravity so you must help him use this skill to solve mind bending 2-D puzzles to help him reach a computer monitor in the stage. I do wish this game had a hint feature, but one neat thing about this game is that even though it’s a mobile title, it does cost money, but that means no free-to-play junk and no in-game ads or purchases! And it’s a cute little puzzle game, too.
And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading my reviews and posting comments and ‘likes’ and such. I do appreciate it. Happy Halloween! Later! --Cary
I hope it gets to Xbox because I will snatch it up in a hearbeat. New missions to the old game? Yes, please.
Actually, my friend Mark was playing the original again just a few months ago. I teased him about it but I was secretly thinking about doing the same. I don't think I ever beat the final, final boss in it.
You know, a Metal Gear/Pokemon crossover sounds weird and impossible, but there have been Pokemon crossovers that were just as weird. Case in point: have you ever heard of a popular strategy game series called Nobunaga's Ambition? Well did you know that there was a crossover game with that and Pokemon on the DS? Yup, it's true! It was called Pokemon Conquest, and basically played like Final Fantasy Tactics with Pokemon, but apparently the famed Japanese dictator Nobunaga from real life history had a Pokemon partner. Who knew?
